Swansea City will have more discussions from Monday with Wycombe Wanderers over a potential move for centre back, Joe Low. The twenty two year old seems to be the top target of the month for Swans Chairman, Andrew Coleman. There is some leverage on a Portuguese based Brazilian but that’s still in our things to do tray.
Once again we were surprised at some of head coach, Luke Williams comments regards certain players of interest. Abdulmalik Al-Jaber the Saudi U23 central midfielder who plays in Bosnia has most certainly been on the Swans radar. We’ve looked into the player, his management and ownership and have to say it all looks a bit of a minefield. It could be we are reading it wrong but we will look deeper into that over the weekend. The money wanted for him is well beyond what the Swans can afford, so unless some extra business is being discussed by Chairman, Andrew Coleman and miracles are being performed then a permanent transfer is surely beyond the clubs ability ? Especially at the prices discussed of four million plus.
We have been told that Luke Cundle is on a list of prospective loans but there has been no contact regards his services as of today, and some Swans followers will be pleased to hear that news. If Swansea City and especially Luke Williams are to be believed, does he really fit the better than what we have got remit ? Especially after two pretty insignificant seasons on loan at Stoke and Plymouth.
Let us just pause for thought on Harry Darling, the majority of the Swansea support on New Years Day were happy to talk about Harry Darling signing a new contract. That was common knowledge, however, we all know what happened after that and indeed some will tell you it was the reason for Harry not signing. Who can say ? But it all seemed a bit coincidental. We all know his agent is scratching around for bigger and better deals for Harry and the Swans are quite right, it could run to the summer.
We have to remember that Coleman can up the contract offer at any time, we don’t need a window to do that. The question is will the Chairman be talking to Darling between now and the summer ? He’s not daft, of course he will be. Even as it stands despite the unknowns from his agent, the Swans still hold the cards. The only thing that will change Coleman’s mind is if Darling states he wants to move on regardless. And unless anyone knows differently that isn’t what is coming out of the club.
Wycombe centre back, Joe Low is looking a bit more favourable inasmuch as a second bid has been made. That as the Swans press for a conclusion to the lengthening scenario of trying to secure his services, Wycombe Wanderers simply don’t want to sell him. However, every player has a price so the Chairboys are holding out on that. Reviewing our information on this situation we have to reveal who is behind these decisions at Wycombe Wanderers. That is wealthy Georgian/Kazakhstan businessman, Mikheil Lomtadze, who owns the vast majority of the club. He is on the Forbes list of billionaires. That’s no mean feat. Dan Rice is acting as Chairman and has a title of chief football officer, he is the man Coleman has been in talks with. Rice has covered a few roles at Wycombe and is the conduit to Mikheil Lomtadze. Since Mikheil has been majority owner he has brought a successful season to the club. They are riding high in League one, above Wrexham, and Joe Low along with some other admired players are key to that stability. Matt Bloomfield who is now the head coach wants to retain Joe Low. Matt has a nigh on forty eight percent win rate at the Chairboys losing only thirty two games over 107. That’s quite a remarkable statistic. There has been a stumble though with Wycombe losing three of their last five games. For all that they sit second in League one still above Wrexham. We know now there won’t be any immediate development with Low, Wycombe play Portsmouth tonight in the FA Cup.
The whole club are together on this, they are building an exciting future so it is going to take some clever business to get this done. Wycombe just don’t want to sell. Plymouth and Preston are in the mix but Joe we are certain won’t go to any of these clubs. One rumour down in Plymouth is that a bid has been made for Low but was immediately rejected. And that the bid was ‘hand delivered’ after contact. Make of that what you will. Seems a very odd rumour.
It’s the FA cup weekend and we will have two of our number in what seems to be turning into a very healthy away support at Southampton. When you consider the kick off time of 4.30pm on a Sunday, an inconvenient hour, especially with it being shown LIVE on the BBC. That’s going to be more than the ninety three Cardiff had at Sheffield United last night. Hundreds and hundreds more.
