Leeds Striker Could Make January Loan Switch To Southampton

The opening of the January transfer window is still a little over two months away, but already the rumour mill is starting to turn and there is a surprise name being linked with a loan switch to St Mary's.

According to caughtoffside.com Saints are looking to bring Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford to the club in January on a six month loan.

Bamford who joined Leeds in 2018 and won his sole England cap in 2021, has amassed 56 goals in 79 appearances for Leeds, including 8 in 33 outings last season for the Yorkshire club.

However having just turned 31 he seems to be out of Daniel Farke's plans this season with just 4 appearances so far and could be allowed to leave on loan.

The report goes on to say:

"Bamford’s recent seasons have been hampered by injuries which has impacted Leeds. Farke himself recently admitted that had the striker been fit last season, the club would have been successful in their promotion bid.

"A move to Southampton could offer the striker an opportunity to regain form, while providing the Saints with much-needed experience and firepower upfront.

"With the player now desperate to leave the club and, Leeds also reportedly open to part ways with him, a January move is likely. it remains to be seen whether Southampton can successfully secure the signing of the forward in the upcoming transfer window. "

So taking Bamford on loan might be a serious consideration for a Saints side that lack a proven goalscorer and although age is not on Bamford's side, he might just prove to be a short term fix for Saints
