Saints Have Bid For Chambers Turned Down ! But Is This A New Offer ?

Saints reportably had a bid to take Calum Chambers on loan from Arsenal rejected earlier in the summer, but are they now back in with a fresh approach.

The press are reporting that Arsenal have turned down an approach from Saints to take Calum Chambers back to St Mary's on loan, however it is not clear whether this is old news being rehashed or whether a fresh attempt has been made.

The doubt creeps in when papers such as the Express claim that Saints are making the bid to bring in cover after selling Nathaniel Clyne, the truth is that after signing Cedric Soares and Cuco Martina, both of whom are primarily right backs, that position is now well covered.

If Saints have made a bid then it is more likely with a view to using Chambers as a central defender, certainly he has been used there for Arsenal, but has fallen well down the pecking order at the Emirates and will now do well to get off the bench and that is if he actually makes it on to there as with everyone fit he might even struggle to be named as a substitute.

This is not what he needs in terms of his career with hopes of playing for England in the European Championships next summer, a month or so ago it was reported that is was chambers himself that turned down the move, however he might now be considering a re think and the latest reports suggest that it is Arsenal themselves that have vetoed the idea this time.

Chambers could do far worse than popping back to Saints for a season, the Arsenal squad has a number of players who have been signed young and not really fulfilled their potential at the Emirates due to being in and out of the side for one reason or another, not least ex Saints Theo Walcott who over 9 years after leaving St Mary's has still not become the player he promised at one time, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has been there 3 years and his career seems to be following the path of Walcott in many respects with Arsene Wenger not seeming to know his best position.
