Vlaar Surgery Highlights That The Rumour Mill Often Has No Substance

Various media outlets were reporting this morning that Ron Vlaar was about to have a medical for Saints and sign in the next day or so, now its revealed that this is far from the truth due to Vlaar undergoing surgery.

The Sunday papers were reporting that long term Saints target Ron Vlaar was about to have his medical for Saints and sign on the dotted line, however this has now shown up just how the transfer rumour mill even when reported in supposedly respectable sources is are up mainly of nothing better than Chinese whispers.

Vlaar would find it hard to pass a medical at present as its now been revealed that he underwent surgery in Rotterdam on a long standing knee problem and that this injury will keep him out for around four months meaning that he is not likely to be fit for action till January.

So talk of Vlaar close to a deal and having a medical in the media had no substance whatsoever, it was merely headlines made up by lazy journalists trying to put two and two together on a slow news days, or an agent somewhere trying to stir up a deal for himself despite not being close enough to Vlaar to know he had had the surgery.

Its a shame because I think Vlaar would have added something to the Saints squad, some Saints fans can't see past his season for Villa last year when injury restricted his appearance, but a year ago his stock was high after a great World Cup, I would not be surprised to see Vlaar join the club in January although it might be on a short term deal.
