De Vries Unsure Over New Swans Contract

Dorus De Vries has surprisingly said that he is not sure whether he will sign a new contract at the Liberty

The Swansea City goalkeeper kept his third successive clean sheet yesterday in the win at Burnley - a win that moved the Swans back into the Championships Top 10.

De Vries two year contract expires in the summer and De Vries has been offered a new deal although he is unsure whether it will be signed - which in itself will provoke speculation on the players future.

Speaking to Wales on Sunday regards the contract, the Dutchman said “There have been talks, but we honestly don’t know yet if we will sign a new contract here or not at the moment

“I’ve been thinking about it constantly, but we have had the period of Christmas in between and things like that.

“I need to see how things are running. Put all the pieces together. It is like a big puzzle and you need to see what fits together for you the best.

“Of course I love it at Swansea, it is a great club, it has been great for me. I want to stay here. Absolutely. Life is good here.

“Take a look at the squad, all the guys have really bonded together and that is a major issue for me.

“I’ve been working great with the goalkeeper coach too which is important for me. I have learnt a lot too which is a major issue.

“But you have to look in which direction the club is going. At what is going to happen in the transfer window things like that.

“I am 28 now and have a few years left ahead of me so you have to think about your career.

“I am a player from overseas as well so you find yourself also thinking about family and friends. They are very important to me.

“As I say you fit all these things together. It is a very important decision and I am still thinking about it.

“But I have to say that my intention in the end is to be a Swansea City player. But you never know what might happen."

De Vries is tipped to sit out Tuesday's FA Cup tie at Histon - a fixture that was rearranged following the initial postponement a week ago.   But he insists that the squad is ready for the game following last season's humiliation at Havant “The guys are feeling good. They have been really good in training and we believe there is a good period ahead of us still to come this season

“The cup is always nice. I made the Scottish FA Cup final and played against Celtic at a full Hampden Park.

“We lost out, but it was class. They are the kind of memories you will always keep. It’s always good to go as far as you can in any cup competition.”

Farke Seeks Improvement Despite Comfortable Win in the Fog
Even though we went back to the top of the table Daniel Farke thought we should have won more comfortably, but we were more than good enough to beat a woeful Stoke City.
