TK wins Round 4 of Goal of the Decade

The next winner of our Goal of the Decade heats has been announced.

It may well have "just been a penalty", but it would appear that Tom Kennedy's goal against Bury earlier this season has been taken to the hearts of the Dale supporters. For TK's effort (and subsequent celebrations) was voted as the winner of Round 4 of the Goal of the Decade competition beating off stiff competition such as Dagnall's survival securing goal against Rushden and the Paddy and Super Kev wonder pass goal against York City.

The results were as follows:

Pos Goal

%

1st Tom Kennedy v Bury (h) 29.08.09 40%
2nd= Chris Dagnall v Rushden (a) 15.04.06 15%
2nd= Kevin Townson v York City (h) 05.02.02 15%
4th Ciaran Toner v Aldershot (a) 31.01.09 14%
5th Adam Rundle v Darlington (a) 24.02.09 9%
6th Glenn Murray v Stockport (a) 24.03.07 8%

This was how we described his goal:

On paper, there was nothing overly special about this goal. A 83rd minute penalty in a game that had long since been won, but it somehow found itself entering the Dale history books and is arguably the most talked about goal at Spotland since the Play Off game against Darlington that time. Of course, there were the usual protestations at the award of the penalty but after Kennedy did his usual bit and dispensed his spot kick to the top corner, tensions got a little bit raised amongst the visiting supporters. Of course, Kennedy had broken that ultimate taboo and found himself a new club having been released by the club that he'd spent all his life supporting, and had been treated with venomous scorn and hatred in each encounter between the two clubs ever since. So who in the same position wouldn't give a bit back, and as he careered off towards the Bury fans running back towards his own half with his eyes firmly fixed on those who had offered him nothing but hostility and loathing. It was too much for some, with a brouhaha of Burberry at one end of the stand and a rather spherical human being tried confronting him at the other by entering the field of play. And the gentleman in the picture climbing the barriers must cringe every single time this picture gets an airing. He better get used to it. YouTube link.

The next round will be online soon.

Opinion: Brentford set example Leeds United would do well to follow
Sunday’s opponents Brentford are one of the best-run clubs in the country. They haven’t sacked a manager in more than ten years. We’d be wise to think on that before telling Daniel Farke to piss off.
Brentford Awaydaze
Our visit to Brentford will kick off at 4.30PM on Sunday, thanks to our very good friends at Sky Sports.
Disappointingly brief FA Cup Draw sends Leeds to Derby
Leeds are going to Derby County in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, after TNT sport and the FA were shown to be lagging way behind FIFA when it comes to staging a pompus, shamlessly self-promoting and needlessly drawn out draw for a major competition.
Leeds come from behind twice to force memorable draw with Liverpool
This was the week we were dreading when the fixtures came out, but we ended it with a rousing final 20 minutes against Liverpool, to finish with four points from our games against three of the much vaunted giants of Premier League football.
Rumours of Farke’s demise have been greatly exaggerated
With the internet awash with rumours that our manager was toast if he lost the next two games, he needed a result against Chelsea. He stuck with his new formation and was rewarded with our best performance of the season, and that vital win.
Spirited fightback in vain as Leeds go down to Man City
At half time it looked like we were in for the kind of thrashing we’d been dreading, but after a formation change we came right back into the game, and in the end Manchester City had to be relieved to snatch an injury time winner.
Farke tries to be upbeat about daunting trip to Man City
We all knew this difficult run of fixtures was coming, and so it begins with this afternoon’s away game against Manchester City. We can but hope that our inconsistent hosts have another of the off days they have been suffering this season.
Manchester City Awaydaze
And so we start our difficult run of fixtures, as we head to the Etihad to face Manchester City. The kick-off is at 3pm on Saturday, and it’s not being televised live, so maybe we really aren’t famous any more.
Farke puts on a brave face but fans bay for blood after Villa defeat
In his post-match interviews Daniel Farke was keen to say how pleased he was with the performance after this defeat by Aston Villa, but performances alone won’t keep us in the Premier League.
The board, not Daniel Farke, is the real problem at Leeds United
Much more alarming than the recent spate of defeats is that there’s nothing indicative of a long-term strategy here.
