Andy Woodman initially joined the U's on loan as cover and then signed permanently after an impressing display between the sticks. He was United's number one until the end of 2001, when he was dropped following an off the field dispute and never played for Colchester again.

He signed for Oxford United on loan in early 2002, a move which was made permanent in March 2002. He spent just over two seasons at Oxford, making 107 appearances.

Ahead of the 2004-05 season he joined Stevenage Borough, making 24 appearances, and also had spells at Redbridge and Thurrock that season.

His final club as a player was Rushden & Diamonds - he moved to Nene Park in May 2005, but picked up an Achilles tendon injury kept him out for a number of months and limited his games to just three. He retired from playing and was appointed assistant manager in February 2006. He left Rushden at the end of the season when they were relegated out of the Football League.

He joined former Crystal Palace team-mate Alan Pardew at West Ham United as goalkeeping coach and followed him to Charlton Athletic. When Pardew was appointed manager at Newcastle United last season, Woody left Charlton to become goalkeeping coach at St James Park, where he still is today.
