David Bull also mentioned that it would be great if anyone could post reviews of the book on any Saints' forums. He would like to have some published reviews that he can quote from for the Hagiologists site. [Post edited 9 Dec 2013 11:21]

Good review Nick. I even spotted some seasonal Holly (although no Ivy) in the 4th paragraph. I've reluctantly handed my copy over to be wrapped but I'm looking forward to a good read on Xmas afternoon. Hope you don't mind but I've put up a link on IBO. [Post edited 6 Dec 2013 13:10]

I've copied this post by Duncan from Saints Web. The stalker he refers to seems to be making the same assertions over there that Saints Fan 73 is here. "Just to clarify a few things for the benefit of my stalker Once Bitterne The idea to arrange a launch with the ex-Saints was conceived about three years ago between its then secretary Tim Manns and David Bull. It seemed fairly logical as we were both helping each other track down players. It was nothing to do with me. About 3 months ago as David was up to his eyes in editing he asked me to continue with the organisation of the launch. Initially we wanted to have it at Paul Bennett's in Thornhill (East gate?) but Mike Thew of the ex Saints, then suggested asking the club as he thought it might be the ideal chance to all unite under one roof. I was aware there could be a conflict with certain individuals but assumed as the launch was not being hosted by the club there wouldn't be a problem. Obviously I was wrong. Prior to Friday night I had never met or spoken to Francis Benali. If anyone thinks I engineered this row on purpose perhaps they should sneak a look at my bank balance - it is the last thing I want. Up to now I have enjoyed the best relationship with the club then ever before but obviously the club now seemingly holds Hagiology to blame for the way things have turned out. Probably in hindsight the only way out of this dilemma would have been to have not had a launch at all but then when we had the book signings that too could have caused a problem. perhaps it would have been better not to have written the book at all. I am very proud of it and it is better by a long chalk than anything previously published. It's a labour of love which sadly has become tarnished by pettiness and spite." |

They do have a website where you can order their books. http://www.hagiologists.com/ It should be possible to buy All the Saints from them directly in the near future, otherwise as Nick mentioned orders can be emailed to Duncan - duncan@duncanholley.co.uk They accept PayPal / Credit Cards for payment. And #saintsfc is NOT the property of SFC! |

Firstly he said it might be the last book if I remember correctly. Secondly as has been written several times, most of the ex-players available are members of the official Ex-Saints group and they would not attend an event that would not allow Francis Benali to attend. |

Just to add a comment posted by Duncan on SaintsWeb this morning: "it will be the end of Hagiology. Recouping the 55,000 pounds is going to be hard work without the help of the club." I for one will be very sorry if that happens. |

As Hagiology wanted as many ex-players involved in the launch as possible, asking them through Ex-Saints seems an obvious move. The club as well as Hagiology stood to benefit from the book's sales. I don't suppose Duncan & co expected any problems with this. It's also clear from Duncan's post above that most of the other players wouldn't have attended if Frannie was excluded. Your second statement is totally wide of the mark. Duncan worked quite closely with the club in the book's production. The club supplied many of the photos used in the book. Duncan has commented on Saints Web that the book was a co-production with the club, including the club's logo on the cover. To suggest he had a conflict with the current club management is completely incorrect. [Post edited 3 Dec 2013 11:20]

FAO UTS: David Bull has written this for me to copy on here: "I have been asked whether it's just ALL the SAINTS that the club won't stock or are previous Hagiology publications such as Dell Diamond not stocked either? Answer: when the Retail Manager rang me to cancel the copies of ALL the SAINTS that he'd ordered, I asked him two QQ: 1 Whose decision was this? He said 'it's a club decision'. End of. 2 Did it apply to other titles still in print? He said no. He'd already told me that he didnt want to continue selling Saints v Pompey and YELLOW RIBBON at 'sale' prices, at which they continue to sell very well in WATERSTONE'S. This essentially means that he has a few pbk copies of DELL DIAMOND and two hardback titles to sell: IN THAT NUMBER and SUITED and BOOTED. Waterstone's have responded by ordering 900-odd copies, spread across 10 branches, and some of the ex-players have been superb at agreeing to do signing sessions in six of those branches. The ECHO has been listing those sessions, but here they are: Thursday December 5, Waterstone’s, Swan Centre, Eastleigh (noon) Matt Le Tissier signing. Thursday December 5, Waterstone’s, Above Bar, Southampton (7pm) — An Evening with Mick Channon (tickets £3 from the shop: 02380-633130) Friday December 6, Waterstone's, Newport, Isle of Wight (noon) - signing by 1976 FA Cup-winners, Jim Steele and Hugh Fisher, joined by 1984 semi-finalist, Mark Dennis. Friday December 6, Waterstone's, The Brooks, Winchester (4.30 pm) - signing by 1976 FA Cup-winners, Nick Holmes and Hugh Fisher, and 1984 semi-finalist, Mark Dennis.. Thursday December 12 Waterstone's, Chantry Way, Andover (1 pm) Nick Holmes signing Friday December 13, Waterstone’s, West Quay, Southampton (11a.m - must finish by 12.50 pm) — Matt Le Tissier signing." Well the roads need fixing for a start. Seriously, I suspect that the cost of employing the soldiers is only a small part of the overall cost of some of our recent adventures overseas. We probably need to keep most of the personnel left after the current round of cuts to defend the country itself. |

I'd like to see our politicians finally recognise that we are only a small country and stop engaging in expensive overseas wars and acting like the world's policeman in places like Afghanistan and the Middle East. Who knows? - there might then be enough surplus money to improve the lot of pensioners and the deserving less fortunate in this country. |

Isn't he favouring the less fortunate side of Hampshire nowadays? |
