Irrespective of the statistics and probabilities, I believe it’s not in our interest to be promoted this season. After years of disappointment, can’t we simply enjoy a winning streak and an upper half finish? We are too dependent on loanees and our fabled academy isn’t yet producing the conveyor belt of talent expected. After the euphoria of this season (e.g. relative to the misery of the last ten), I’d hate to see us in League One immediately losing every week and struggling to stay up. We are only just starting to woo back the fickle fans lost after the move from Layer Road and many seasons of despair. If our progressively rising gates collapsed because the team slumped (yet) again, pressure then falls on the Cowleys with no available money to bolster the squad to League One standard. I think we should enjoy the moment, and like in the Parkinson era, look to achieve any promotion ambition in year two of the Cowleys tenure, when they will have had the benefit of three transfer windows to shuffle the pack, and enough time to build the fan base for revenues to grow the budget in line with Financial Fair Play rules. Remember, our wage bill is limited by the numbers through the turnstiles. Mid-table League Two isn’t a bad place to be. Southend, Oldham, and soon Morecambe, Carlisle or Tranmere fans will confirm. As regards Tyreece, he reminds me of Sunday Wasu, but less athletic. If he doesn’t know what he is doing, he might baffle a few defences. But we run a sweepstake on how often he touches the ball in his current short cameos. [Post edited 18 Feb 7:08]

The CUSA bus was just about to depart Corley Services when the team coach arrived. We paused to allow it to park alongside. Then came a surprise visit by DC and NC to personally thank travelling fans. Nice touch. The players are probably racing for KFC (nothing else open except Burger King). They don’t know the bad news….. KFC served me my Mega Box for One and then run out of chicken. Bus now stopped to fill up with fuel. 21-45, and still not passed Coventry City FC |

0600 departure today. Home circa midnight. I’m planning to be at Meadow Lane Gerry. I believe we have two coaches leaving the Jobserve Stadium. 261 was a brilliant turn out today, perhaps helped by school half term and thoughts that it might be the last opportunity to visit the Lake District combined with football. In the bar at lunch, Carlisle fans were convinced that today was going to be their win and Mark Hughes the new messiah. 7,000 disappointed home fans today. I bet fewer next week…. I was recently in Tenerife and couldn’t enjoy video (Sky or I-Follow) for a 1500 kick off, with or without VPN on. I subsequently emailed David Gregory at Col U and the reply said “we are not allowed to broadcast video for Saturday 1500 kick offs into the EU”. Audio has been fine. |

I am speculating, but have you considered that “Peter Sensible” and “return to his car” might be code words alerting security staff to a type of incident and a specific location without alarming other spectators? In modern times, the proliferation of personal radios or other alerts render this unnecessary. But in bygone days, coded words over the public address system were often employed to reach security, fire or other marshalls. |

HT. and an air of confidence in the ground. Anderson should have put us ahead and 60%+ possession suggests good control. Walsall without Lowe looking fairly ordinary, hardly in our half. I’d bring on Thorn for Anderson and add a tad more pace and height up front. Three points are feasible. |

Sounds like Sampson Tovide remains with us? Given DC’s phone line was allegedly “hot”, yet he stays, does this mean Tovide’s injury is more serious? Have we exercised our right to extend his contract by another year? Surely, we are not going to let him walk away a free agent in June? Given Sampson is staying and the signing of forwards Lisbie, Scully and Aboh, I wonder, will we ever see (on loan) Tyreece Simpson again? It is perhaps early days, but his uninspiring performances so far remind me of Sunday Wasui (or any other Sunday league player). Frankly, he can return to Stevenage. Tyreece Lisbie is an interesting one. All the rumours were about his twin brother still at Braintree. I wonder how many of us read “ex Brentford FC” and thought the Gazette has it wrong? Also, how many clubs have two players named Tyreece? As I said, maybe we will soon have one! Surprisingly, KVY is (arguably) the main gamble. He hasn’t played a first XI game in 12 months and has suffered more injuries than the six-million dollar man. So, have they rebuilt him? That doubt apart, it looks like a very satisfactory last day of the transfer window to me. We ask for a forward, and we get five (if we include retention of Tovide). |

I don’t reckon Matt drives as he regularly arrives by taxi. No doubt about his disability though. He cannot walk any distance naturally and swings himself between two crutches as if his legs are tied together. An incredibly loyal U’s fan, intelligent, inspiring and cheerful. Works incredibly hard in a supermarket and is also a gifted writer. I can see how allowing a bus load of 50 fans might cause an obstruction. But how does stopping for a single disabled fan differ from him arriving by taxi, as regards time and traffic obstruction? Harrogate FC should have made better provision. |
 | Forum Reply | Harrogate coach drop off point at 09:36 1 Feb 2025
It is probably NOT deemed discriminatory as both able and disabled supporters are not permitted to embark and disembark coaches immediately outside the ground. However, it is a disgrace that the EFL admit clubs that don’t have adequate access for disabled supporters, and here I include the Harrogate FC guidance that the only accommodation for wheelchair fans is in the home end and they are not permitted to wear team colours (which must be discriminatory?). Perhaps needs a national broadcaster to pick up the story?….. |

I too watched Bradford v Morecambe Wish I had chosen Swindon v Tranmere. Tranmere led until the final minutes. Good news for us, two key Tranmere defenders sent off (so not available on Saturday) as they fall to a demoralising 3-1 defeat. Harrogate also hit with sucker punches in added time. Carlisle lose, Accrington draw, a good night for Col Utd despite not playing. |

I think Macey has been our best keeper for some years, if we ignore the madness at Cheltenham. Every keeper has a mistake in them. Let’s hope he has had his quota. Just a heads up from club website about Port Vale…. Please note, following damage to Turnstiles 15 and 16, they will be closed for today's game. All supporters will be using Turnstiles 17 and 18 in the South Stand, please get to the ground early to avoid delays. I wonder who’s stuck in them……..? [Post edited 27 Jan 20:15]

Just watched the Morecambe full match replay noting DC’s complaints about the pitch. The drainage might have improved, but it looks shocking, notably in front of the West Stand. When originally laid about 17 years ago, I recall the hype about integrated chopped rubber bands making the bounce consistent and new grass technologies. It was pristine until the long time groundsman from Layer Road (Dave) left to become a Tesco delivery driver. I’m not convinced it ever recovered from the music concerts and the experiments with contract ground staff. According to DC, the new groundsman is apparently working like a Trojan trying to find a remedy, but Winter isn’t the time for positive results. OK, it’s the same for both teams, but I reckon it currently benefits thugs and hoofball, not the style of football DC wants to play or we want to watch. Even clubs that share with Rugby have better surfaces. It’s sad we are blighted by this. |
