| Forum Reply | Interesting question, would you ever want Saints to lose a match? at 23:06 18 May 2024
As good as it would be to win at Wembley, And I still remember how good it was to win the tin of paint trophy, I think I would not mind if we lost next week, I would much rather another season of winning and being a big team, than yet another year of being the whipping boys. So yeah, I’m going to enjoy my time at the final, however win or lose I will go home happy. |
| Forum Thread | He's got no idea, but he has to stay :) at 18:43 25 Sep 2023
For what its worth, no point in getting rid of the manager for now, may as well let him finish his experiment. and hope it comes good. We all know it was a mistake getting him and listening to the drivel about possession football, these are pie in the sky dreams for the big teams that play in Europe and south America, not the English leagues. The fact is we don't have the players, even if we removed the manager to make advances we would have to also swap all the players out and that is not going to happen. We would need 1. An experienced journeyman keeper who can marshal the defence and punch a few strikers in the face when collecting crosses. Grobbelaar type (when he wasn't taking bribes) 2. Some good old fashioned defenders who can tackle and kick lumps out of the opposition and organise. Neil Ruddock types 3. We can keep the smaller full backs and let them run up and down supporting the wingers, but first teach them how to tackle and hit long sweeping balls up to the strikers to run onto. but to also stay in position and defend first. Jason Dodd, we need people like you. 4. A couple of midfield generals, Marsden tacking and kicking with Oakley or Magilton doing the fancy passing forward and jinking runs. 5. We need some heavy duty strikers like shearer who would make sure not only the ball went into the net but everyone him, and having a Dowie who he can play off. An finish by playing the old fashioned 4-4-2, where get get the ball and hit the strikers at every earliest opportunity. The good old days of football where it was about winning games and giving the crowd something to cheer about and be the 12th man |
| Forum Reply | Nicks Saints Away Travel Down To Last Few Seats For Middlesbrough at 22:33 21 Sep 2023
I went with saints travel to Middlesborough for the first ever game in their new stadium, a Tuesday night for a dire 0-0 draw. got home at 6am or something very silly. horrendous, the first and last time I ever went to that part of the world for a football match and didnt make it a 2 day stop over. Do that trip at your peril , especially as were going to get our arses handed to us, yet again. |
| Forum Reply | Who was there? at 22:53 14 Apr 2023
Yep, archers road, block 5, row 10. That was the only real ‘Great escape’ often mimicked by other fans who have no idea what it was all about Used to love football back in them days. Now it’s just a pile of horse poo and I haven’t been to a so called top flight game in years. Also there when Frankie scored Also there for all the manU thrashings And there when Alan ball wore his hat back to front and looked a proper tw4t And Peter read was a thick northern bas’tard with a sh1te football team And being 1-0 down with 2 mins to go and still beating Newcastle 3-1 (foggy memory on that one) And the Bruce gronblar days |

| Forum Reply | VAR changes at 11:01 3 Aug 2021
I think it is really interesting they are blaming VAR for players throwing themselves to the ground. Many times on MOTD you hear them saying 'they felt contact so was entitled to go down' that's been happing long before VAR. and its exactly what VAR was meant to stop. Its football, its shouldn't be complicated, "Contact on its own is only part of the what referees should look for," said referees' chief Mike Riley. "They should also ask themselves if the contact has a consequence, and then if the player used that contact to try and win a foul or a penalty. "It's not sufficient just to say: 'Yes, there's contact.' I think, partly, we got into that frame of mind by the forensic analysis that went into VAR awards." |

Lee Todd, what an embarrassment he was, I remember his first game, where the was hoofed down the flank at him and it bounced over his head by a few feet whilst he looked like a fish out of water trying to reach it, with the away fans pointing and laughing at him. Benali soon put him into his rightful place as on the bench. That was back in the days when we changed manager every season and every manager dropped Benali as they thought he was useless, but he soon proved them all wrong. |
| Forum Reply | People without masks in supermarkets... at 15:06 24 Jul 2021
My daughter works in the local Sainsbury's, on the first couple days it was near 50% of people not wearing masks, but now has moved to about 20% not wearing them. The majority of community focused people have realised that we do still need to keep each other safe and are doing as asked by the government and scientists, which is to keep the masks on. The wearing of the mask is not for my protection, its for others, if I have covid it stops me spreading through my breath, and personally, I don't want someone else death to be caused by me (although I don't knowingly have covid) so I wear mask. And it's not too much to ask others to do the same. |

A couple of points on the diving, I thought yellow cards were meant to be issued for diving, and although the refs told the players to get up, no cards were issued, or has that rule now been stopped? And you mentioned the Argies diving, a couple of months ago I was watching the old big match on ITV 4 and Ardilies was playing for the spuds, he got slaughtered by someone, the ref said play on, as it was a hard but fair (for them days) tackle and the only way he could get treatment was to roll himself off the pitch as the game continued. That would stop some diving if treatment was not allowed on the pitch. I saw someone a couple of weeks back who feigned injury off the pitch and the coaches told him to get back onto the pitch so play had to stop. Otherwise the standing of reffing over the euros was very good |

If he is not good enough for Spurs and they are in effect sacking him, then he is not good enough for us. |
| Forum Reply | VAR at 12:52 20 Mar 2021
What is just as ridiculous is the linesman, he was a few yards away and he never put his flag up so how can it be offside? Surely it should be his decision with VAR backing him up? If he can’t make his mind up from that distance what’s the point of him???? |
| Forum Reply | Who? at 18:41 14 Mar 2021
Not that my option counts for much, and the board won’t be listening to me 😀 But neither of them two thanks, I’ve never met Gerald myself but I know people who know him, and he is a nasty piece of work. Defo not in the family type style we as a club need to be associated with. The other did ok at a small club for a few years, Did try his luck at another club and completely messed it up before being taken back and doing ok for a small club spending more money than us, although apparently he is a very nice man. Let’s just stick for now |

I don't have sky sports so couldn't watch last night, but I think I am very lucky not to have watched if man of the match was given to Jordan Pickford. According to Carragher on sky sports website "Pickford's contribution was to spend 90 minutes as a bystander" And that made him the best and most entertaining player on the pitch???? |
| Forum Reply | Quick free kicks. at 17:48 25 Feb 2021
If a goal is scored then VAR will take 2 mins to check for the offside and penalty so no need for that one anymore. However if there Is an injury the ref does need to hold up play for treatment. Also on an earlier point if the ref blows for a free kick then the defending team must get 10 yards away from the ball immediately or its a booking, so holding up play to make sure they are 10 yards away is not needed. So I would agree no need for the ref to hold up play. And yes tongue in cheek. |

| Forum Thread | My Dad, a saint forever at 16:43 2 May 2020
My dad passed and we had his funeral yesterday, He had a season ticket for well over 30 years, he first started taking me back in the 70's and he had been going long before that. I want to thank you for being part of his service. He went to pretty much every ground with saints and had lots of friends from around the ground over the years. He was in the Northern at St Marys, the Archers at the dell. Him and I used to read the Ugly Inside in paper format when it first started, we would purchase at the ground, he still read this forum up to his passing. Nick you have been part of my family life for many years although we have never met. Dad says thanks for all the laughs and the news :) It wasn't the virus that got him, but it was because of the virus and self-isolating meant he didn't get the care he needed. He was now old and frail, his time was due, virus or not. This is not a morbid post, nor one of me seeking sympathy. It is to spread the joy that was bought to us, his family yesterday by him being a saint. The photos show his coffin had the stripes draped, he was sent to cremation wearing his saints top that was mainly red with the thin white strips, we thought that top was so bad it needed burning, it wasn't a hard choice. He also went into the fire with his saints scarf and bobble hat on. This is where I thank you all, The crowning glory was the final music, it was a recording of 'oh when the saints', Recorded at st Marys, it was the crowd singing, no music, just the chant, it was amazing, I'm hoping he was part of the recording. Cheers and see you all soon Darren |
| Forum Reply | Right back against Liverpool at 12:31 1 Feb 2020
Like every other team in Europe playing at that northern dump we are going to get our backsides kicked and given a lesson in football. This is one we just have to realise we are going to lose and the main priority is to keep the score line less than 10 against. So stop worrying about who the right back is, if it was Norwich away it would be different. but not the red scum from up north. |
| Forum Reply | Mothercare at 17:07 6 Nov 2019
I have some friends that work in the head office, Mothercare has been on the brink for years, 4sh years ago it very nearly went, but a rescue plan was put in place, and that was not just a stop gap. Mothercare's demise has nothing to do with Brexit, they missed the on-line revolution, shoppers habits have changed, the type of premise they need has super high rents and business rates, stealth tax also craps in with min wage increases and pension contributions. Its an easy mistake to think what would the baby market work differently to how it always has because the customers needs are the same. But that isn't the case. Anyone who thinks or says this has anything to do with Brexit is just plain wrong, the issues have been there for years and it would have gone anyway. |
| Forum Reply | Pride restored at 20:22 2 Nov 2019
Thats a strange and over optimistic way to feel, do you really feel that pride has been restored in Southampton FC? last 7 league games 6 losses and 1 Draw, one of those being a record defeat, and you say your proud of the club. I personally think its sucking shocking. 24 goals against and 6 scored. They should be hanging their heads in shame. I', still proud enough to be a saints fan and tell everyone I support them, but I am not proud of this bunch of losers, they should all be sucking sacked, no severance pay, out on their ear and play people who want to pull on the jersey and represent us, there are plenty of people who would pay to be on that pitch, they may not be as good, but they would give it everything. It's a shame we can't do mid season transfers any more. |
| Forum Reply | The blue sky thinkers at our club at 20:45 19 Aug 2019
There is a different set of management now but back in the good old days at the dell My father and I plus all our supporting mates were a member of the club next door which was part of the club, for a small annual membership, we would go in have a few beers pre match, some fella would read the team sheet out as soon as it appeared, so we were the first to know the team, he would tell a few jokes, we would leave 1 minute before kick off so we were in the archers as kick off was being taken and then straight back in after to discus the amazing goal Le God had scored whilst moaning about the defeat. It was priced for the home fans, and ran for the home fans, the place was always packed. Different set of management and business objectives now. its all in the past. |
