| News Comment | Why Would Anyone Want To Miss An FA Cup Semi Final ! at 18:37:41
I was at Anfield last year for the league cup semi. You can't beat that feeling when we scored the winner. I'm hoping for that feeling Sunday. That's the reason I'll be there. Supporting Saints you do not expect success , you hope for it. But when it comes it does feel bloody good |
| News Comment | It Was 46 Years Ago Today ! at 12:29:55
Another balanced article. Nick you sum up how I feel about my football team and city. My first home game was the 74/75 season. One Saturday I walked from the city centre past the polygon up to the Dell. Never before had I visited the ground. I was not intending to watch the game, I was only 12, I just wanted to find out where the ground was. When I arrived outside I could hear the game and crowd. I looked though the gap between the turnstile and wall and saw a slither of green pitch. Even being outside at that time my heart was pounding. Then half time came. At this point I walked up the Milton Rd to the entrance of the East Stand. The gates were open for some reason at half time and I walked along the outside of the stand. Suddenly in front of me a door was open and I could see inside the ground. For me it was amazing seeing the green of the pitch and a wonderful ground. Suddenly around me fans started to come through the door back into their seats. I then went to walk the other way but got stopped by a Stewart who asked where I was gong. I explained I never had a ticket and was walking back to Milton Rd. He then asked if I wanted to watch the second half. YES was the answer, so the second half was Saints v Orieant was my first. We won 4 - 2 I think. After that I started to go on my own or with friends and have been hooked ever since. Iv many memories of away games with Clive's away travel club. Somebody should write a book about those trips |
| News Comment | Virgil Van Dijk ! Good Riddance To A Disgrace at 11:56:50
Great read Nick. This might sound strange, but I will now be upset if Saints go down. The premier league can only be won by one of four clubs. Then there's 2 others who chase Tey to compete for Champion Leagues spots. With our income we will never be up there. We make up the numbers for Sky / talk sport / and all the other media. VVD IS everything that is wrong with football. Nick summed him up well. The majority of players do not give a toss about us. Look what they do at the end of an away game. Yep a token gesture clap form the half way line. Can't even be arsed to come over within 20 meters to say thanks for driving 8 hours round trip to support us. Oh and they will be on a private jet back while we're stuck of the .ucking M6. I'll keep gong because Southampton is in my DNA and it always will be. But the likes of VVD and the premier league are making it a lot harder by the season. I for one would be happy with a trip to Brentford for QPR. At least then I know I'm closer to spit and dust football that I used to adore. Rant Over |
| News Comment | Van Dijk Reception Was Counter Productive at 12:28:41
I seldom post on here, however I have to agree with Nick100%. For me supporting Saints is about supporting the shirt and club. While VVD wears the shirt he'll have my support. Yes he reflects everything wrong with modern football, but he's not bigger than the club. All those on here who complain we are a selling club your job now is not to boo him. You got what you wanted. Don't be too faced. If he plays well on the pitch we win , off the pitch when his value goes up we win. Don't harm his value to SFC. On this one use your brain not your emotions. Rant over |
| News Comment | Saints At Liverpool The Verdict ! at 19:21:43
Last night is why I love Southampton football club. Nick you summed up the emotion of the night beautifully. Time stood still went that goal went in and then exploded with emotion. You can't buy that feeling, a feeling shared with 3500 Saints fans. I bloody love football and I bloody love Southampton Football Club. One of the best nights of my life. Yep you guessed it I'm still smiling. |
| News Comment | Saints Deny Fonte Bids ! But Clearly Issues With The Situation ! at 18:12:18
Honestly I can't believe half the stuff iv read above. Fonte is 32, he's made plenty of rickets during his time at Saints and some above have him as some sort of messiah. Toby was far better than Fonte and VVD is one of the best centre halfs we've ever had. We support the club. I for one feel we should give him a fare wage rise within our limitations. He can take it or leave it. Paying stupid wages can put the club at risk. He's not worth big big money. |
| News Comment | Saints Keen On Moving Sadio Mane On ! at 11:27:05
Remember Mane through his toys out the pram last Aug and in my opinion cost us a Europa League spot. in regards to him as a player he's inconsistent. One good game then several average games, he plays for himself not the club. Unless you pay him way more than he's worth in wages he will not sign a new contract. Keep him for a year and loose 20 million in transfer funds and have a sulking player on your hands. Sell him for 30 million and trust the club to invest wisley. |
| News Comment | Every Man Has His Price ! at 14:37:45
Like every supporter I to am gutted by the potential loss of RK?. However as a club we should not be held to ransom for a wage we cannot commercially afford. Without the premier league TV income we'd be loosing millions a year. For anyone who's been to Aresenal, Mau Utd, Liverpool, Newcastle your see hundreds if not thousands of sold out corporate seats and boxes, while ours seldom sell out. I'd wager a bet that we rank in the bottom four premier leagues clubs in coperate sales. The club the way I see it for now have got things right. I do have a however. If RK goes the club should hold Everton and Koleman to ransom. As he has a year left on his contract warrant compensation to a level of your best player with a year left on his contract. Everton should pay 10 million for Koleman or Koleman stays. Love to see how that would pan out? |
| News Comment | 40 Years On ! The FA Cup Final The Aftermath ! at 14:05:57
May 1st 1976. Difficult to stop my eyes welling up when my memory goes back to that date. I was 13 at the time, I'd been to the majority of the home games that season including the game when the voucher was given out. My problem was finding someone to take me to Wembley, unfortunately I never found that person and gave my voucher to a friends mother as their family were going and needed an extra ticket her her. I remember saying to her that I didn't mind as there would be lots more times when Saints would get to a cup final. How wrong could I have been. I watched the final at the home. I wanted to watch on my own so watched it away from my family in a separate room. It's was my cup final not there's. I kicked every ball, telling the players where to pass the bal, out loud. Then it happened Bobby Stokess scores. My life changed for ever from then on when ever I see that goal tears well up. The final whistle and Southampton FC won the Cup. That evening I went straight out and played football on a green near where I lived with friends. A lady who always used to complain if the ball went on her front garden came out and gave us chocolates, cars tooting horns. The following day the team bus came down our road, Somerset avenue. In front of our house painted in the middle of the road super saints. This stayed there for years. My real celebration was at Mick Channons testimonial on the Monday night. Queued for hours but go into the Milton road just before the turnstiles closed. God bless you Bobby |
| News Comment | Saints Announce Some Season Ticket Reductions But Fall Far Short Of Expectations at 20:10:39
Unbelievable some of the comments on here. No chance getting this Fan base United Nick! Thank god Branfoot isn't our manager now we would never have got rid of him with this divided fan base. I love this football club but the attitude of some I'm alright jack makes me sick and saddened for the club as a whole. This new pricing policy is unfair for lots of reasons, but with the attitude of some above looks like we will have to put up with it. I will make my points to the club directly as some on here couldn't give a toss as long as they are alright. |
| News Comment | Reality Check Needed We Are Called "Supporters" Not "Slaggers" at 10:31:57
I have to agree. You support your team through think an thin. The good times and that bad times. I was gutted Thursday night, that's the only way to describe how I felt, however Southampton for me is in my heart, I have an emotional connection to the club. That connection has given me some of my greatest highs and lowers lows. You have to support your City and that city is Southampton. Players will come and go, owners will come and go. But long after I'm gone St Mary's ill remain. Being at the Square in Arnhem, singing when the saints go marching in with 2000 Saints fans will live with me forever. Support the team, support the city and we will get back there sooner than later. Emotionl plea now over |
| News Comment | Saturday Is Saints Cup Final at 18:29:01
Having read the posts above, I am now off to the woolston bridge to throw myself off. Come on cheer up, we are still 7th with a good chance of finishing 6th. Sure it an anti climax end to the season, but I for one felt mid table would have been a good position to end up in after the summer we went through. Please look at your pint being half full not half empty. |
| News Comment | City To Honour 40th Anniversary Of FA Cup Win With Open Bus Tour at 15:10:00
Good article Nick. I saw the statue yesterday at the stadium of light and it hi-lights the history of their club. 1st May 1976 was the greatest day in our clubs history and one the greatest days in the city of Southamptons history. It should be celebrated and remembered. |
| News Comment | Should The Liverpool Ex Saints All Receive The Same Welcome at 14:09:28
Every breath you use to Boo lallana an dejan, could be spent pushing the Southampton to victory. This is the biggest game in my opinion for years and years. Win and that dream is becoming reality. Any Southampton fan reading this whether you post on here or just read. Please leave the Staduim Sunday evening knowing you have given everything for the victory. The players will respond. |
