Really impressive performance today. We were well worth the victory and played assured attack minded football whilst looking solid at the back.

Well done to Jim and all the players.

Eek. I'd actually almost forgotten about him...but sadly, still have nightmares about Billy Boslem.

An excellent performance with Woking second best all over the park. Three actually flattered them. So good to see us attacking at pace, which caused them no end of problems.
Henry's goal already a contender for gots.

Fantastic news. Common sense. Well done to the club for listening.

Couldn't listen today, but sounds like a very welcome win and an improving second half performance. Another clean sheet to boot, so that's a big plus as well.

On to Saturday now... let's see if we can get a bit of momentum at home .

I honestly can't begin to fathom the complete lunacy of this decision. It has obviously been taken without a hint of intelligence or any thought as to how it will impact the paying supporters.

Only a complete about turn and an apology will suffice.

I am seriously worried that we have people with such a lack of common sense on the Board.

Just listened to the manager's interview. He obviously sees a different game to me. There's being positive which is fine and then there's going into denial.
We are shot shy Jim. One shot on target is not good enough. York looked the stronger team for much of the game and deserved the win.
Beginning to seriously doubt the logic of a 3 year deal.

No complaints about the result. York were sharper and better organised as a team than we were.
Overall, I'm disappointed that McNulty doesn't seem to have learned from last seasons mistakes and is still scared of his team shooting when they have half a chance.

We can almost discount the opening day win against a Boston team who were nowhere near the standard of an average team at this level. Our last two games have been against more typical teams, and we've not shown much tactical flexibility.

Looked easier to score. But at least its a good chance. Rodney and Mitchell very quiet so far.

York should have scored...again we are wide open down the left side. Combination of keeper and post saving us.

Agree. We look very dodgy on the left hand side of our defence . also feel the keeper should be saving their tame effort from which they scored.
Although we have had plenty of chances to shoot, we do seem to be overplaying and not having enough efforts on goal. Mitchell especially needs better technique when trying to control the ball.

Hoping for an improvement in the second half. With a few tactical tweaks from Jim, we can win this game. Hope he sees it as we do.

A thoroughly deserved win and a great start to the campaign. By all accounts we could have won by more, but three away goals without reply is excellent. I'm sure we will come up against much sterner tests, but it's a good start.

Salford friendly
at 09:15 4 Aug 2024

Great entertainment yesterday, and a really refreshing attacking attitude from the Dale. Really like the look of Burger and especially Allarakhia and although it's a friendly, we made Salford look a poor team for long spells. Fantastic goal by Henry for the second week running and it really could have been 6 or 7 with ease.

My only slight criticism would be that we caused ourselves a few problems when unnecessarily short passing out from goal and in defence. However, there was none of the "to you; to me" from last season, so it's a small point.

The pitch looks as lush as ever and there is bit of a feel good atmosphere around the club, so well done to all who made it possible.

Good to see Colin Garlick at the ground...shame he's working for Salford these days instead of us.

Big Jim's contract extension?

Not impressed with this news. He might be a lovely chap who cares deeply about the club, but the fayre on show is dismal. We must put more emphasis on entertainment and attacking intent.

Pleased with this news. Provided we can keep him fit and well, he should be a huge asset in the National League.

Eng v Den

Staggeringly similar to watching Dale under Jim (and before). Only difference is that the England players are a much higher quality, but nevertheless, they are, like Dale, made to play a defensive game which frustrates players and fans alike.

England have possibly the strongest squad I can remember for a long time, yet Denmark out thought and outplayed us for long periods whilst a very average Serbia could easily have scored in the second half.

The outpouring of criticism aimed at Southgate's tactics from pretty much every pundit speaks loudly that this type of football is not good to watch. Hopefully, we can change things up considerably.

Club Statement. Deal done
at 10:42 11 May 2024

Absolutely delighted with this news. Probably more than we could have wished for in terms of the future of the club.

Huge thanks to the individuals who made this happen...they know who they are and probably won't seek public praise, but we should be eternally grateful for their part in this .

Let's look forward to the coming season with pride and a little optimism. Seems a long time since we united to rid ourselves of the wrongdoings of Bottomley; but we should never ever forget how close he came to ruining the club that we all love.

Apart from a few half decent efforts near the end, it was yet another borefest. Results may have improved ( compared to an awful season last time out) but entertainment (Hayes the notable exception) hasn't changed.

The buck stops with McNulty I'm afraid. This league is way below the standard of L2 of last season, and even that wasn't a strong league.

The Manager alone sets up the way we play and endlessly pass it around for no reason. Yes...it comes off once in a blue moon, but for goodness sakes; we were playing a part time team who had recently played another match before an arduous journey up here. We should have been flying at them instead of making them look at least as good as us for long periods.

As others have rightly said; how is Jim-ball going to encourage people to purchase a season ticket next year?

Gateshead Game Predictions

The counter arguments discussed previously are exactly what you get playing the style we have adopted.. There are a handful who go ott with criticism, whilst an opposite handful are very supportive of the Manager. The truth is probably somewhere in between, although there have been too many occasions where I've watched in growing frustration as we fail to attack.

In all honesty, I'm growing bored in general at the way we have played for the past 4 seasons or so, and it seems to be actually worse this season in terms of the passing around for no reason (that I can see) Was it this bad under BBM? (who I blame for starting the decline alongside the evil Bottomley)

As others have said; this is not a good league, and given our squad (with a real bonus of having Hayes with us for a good number of games) we really should be in contention in the top 4 or 5.

Several teams have been impressive against us, but none (Chesterfield apart) have been so much superior that we stood no chance against them. And I'm aware that we drew against them recently. Gateshead beat us fair and square yesterday without really breaking sweat, whilst we never laid a glove on them. Their keeper will have had few easier afternoons.

So I'm in the McNulty isn't good enough camp. Yes he comes across well in interview and he obviously cares about the club, but he is so tactically negative that it's not true. Even in the 5 minutes added time yesterday, there were numerous times when we chose to play backwards rather than push forward. If it's true that our current Chairman likes watching the way we play; then he isn't the man for the job. Where's the ambition to thrill the crowds or ; heaven forbid attract new supporters?

It is an entertainment business, and if people are not feeling entertained then we will struggle. Sadly, I can count about 5 or 6 games where I have felt entertained. Probably 15 to 20 where it's been negative rubbish and baffling selections and tactics.

Thought it was fairly even until they scored but they've been much better since. Rodney seems to be too deep and Mitchell largely ineffective so far.
Gateshead look a decent team.
