| News Comment | Southampton Nearing Cash Plus Player Transfer Deal at 12:09:13
Why is everyone’s assumption that RM doesn’t like Charly? Could equally be that Charly is looking for a way out. He’s a great player who can go on to big things but perhaps would prefer to do that nearer home. |
| News Comment | Southampton In Talks For Callum Hudson-Odoi at 13:59:09
As a loan, what's the worst that could happen? He may have 'stuttered' vs expectation @ Chelsea but you'd think he'd be our best attacking prospect by a mile if we got him. Would love to see it |
| News Comment | Saints Tyler Dibling Opts For Chelsea And Money at 15:08:44
Nick, with all due respect, when you embarked upon your career, YOU may have looked at it from a career perspective rather than instant money. My point is, merely, that this is your perspective. This kid already IS a footballer (and will be a professional at 17) and will, by the age of 21, have earned a significant amount of money that will allow him to take up any career he wishes. He might not see himself being a footballer forever - to your point, he's a kid. His financial position is assured with this move. A career ending injury at 17 with Saints would see him starting a new career with far less money behind him. To me, that makes his decision far more prudent than you give him credit for. |

Putting Financial security over their career? Financial security is literally what my career is attempting to deliver! The sooner you have it, the sooner you can enjoy it. He might want to retire at 21 for all you know! I don't begrudge anyone for making a sensible financial decision - this kid will have a better idea of what's right for HIM than any of us. |
| News Comment | Southampton Set For Record Transfer Bid at 11:45:58
Probably not enough to take him off the market at this stage. But glad Saints are trying to make moves and push the negotiation. Chelsea in a great position this season - allow Broja to keep demonstrating his value/potential with us and open up the bidding in the summer (unless they really do plan on keeping him). |
| News Comment | Here Come The Armstrongs ! at 13:14:44
Loved watching Stuart Armstrong against West Ham, drive with the ball into spaces, as he does, like no one else in the squad. He's one of those few players we possess who creates dangerous situations by doing something other than sideways passes - his priority is moving us up the pitch. Fingers crossed we see plenty more of him. I'm still very hopeful for Adam Armstrong too - my one worry, that i hope he allays soon, is he looks like another player that may shoot 'at the goal' rather than at the open part of the goal. Again, we have very few players who seem to be capable of aiming around the goal keeper (Broja, Prowse & S. Armstrong being the only 3 who currently spring to mind!) - most just opt for power in the direction of goal with a big lump of hope! Fingers crossed! |
| News Comment | Southampton Need To Sort Out Central Defence Pairing For West Ham Clash at 13:20:04
Worth remembering stats are just stats. Bednarek has to make last ditch challenges and blocks as his positioning and reading of strikers is pretty poor. I think the key point remains one that you have also made already - we lack a good enough leader. We've not replaced the 'conducting' function that Fonte and VVD provided. Ironically, Vestergaard became the closest thing to it but he's now gone too! You can see from the way Jack communicates that he's willing to take on the role but, to your point, we've seen that concentrating on his own job rather than directing others is already more than he can manage at times. |
| News Comment | Absolutely ******* Disgraceful at 16:44:44
Is it not becoming clearer why the team selections were so bizarre for so long? ie. Hassenhutl can see the attitudes in training etc. and wants to show that no one is safe from being dropped (Bertrand despite being our only viable Left Back. Valery despite seemingly being first choice when we sent Cedric out last season). This by no means excuses Friday's performance (for want of a better word!) or the previous team selections. If anything, it questions Ralph's ability to correct those attitudes and performances in order to get those players playing again. I agree, the quality in this squad is far below what we have grown accustomed to - but i'd argue more strongly, it is the attitudes and entitlement that stinks far more. |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl To Become Saints Manager On Wednesday Morning at 18:05:51
Do we think Paul Mitchell may be in line for a return as well to take Reed's position? Regardless of actual outcome, i have no qualms about the theory of this appointment. Really, really pleased and almost a little bit excited!! |
| News Comment | Why Is Nathan Redmond The Whipping Boy ? at 13:34:28
I don't have a problem with Redmond as such but i have a problem with what his signing's purpose was. It's become clear that he was a signing designed to fill the gulf left by Lallana/Mane type players. There were players we built our team's creativity around. Unfortunately, i don't think Redmond is not individually quite good enough to build our creativity around. He's nowhere near our worst player, but he's not so good that he lifts our overall quality like his predecessors did. That's where i think we've lost our balance as a team and why the goals have dried up. I don't see it as Redmond's 'fault' - it's EITHER the fault of recruitment for not building a better team around him or the recruitment's fault for thinking Redmond could replace Lallana/Mane. |
| News Comment | Saints Make Official Offer For Wesley Hoedt at 19:25:17
VVD has to go (for £70mil and NOT to Liverpool) and will need replacing. The statement VVD put out has made his position untenable within the squad. If I were Stephens or Yoshi I'd be livid if he was welcomed back to the first team with open arms. |
| News Comment | Pellegrino Reveals That Saints Are Looking At New Signings at 14:35:53
We will continue to be a stepping stone club for many top players that we sign as i see it. We pay some of the lowest agent's fees in the league. As much as i loathe agents, we are going to struggle to compete to keep the bigger players if an agent knows he would get paid far more by taking his player to an alternative club at a similar level to us. The feather in our cap is our proven track record of taking a player who has potential then selling them to Chelsea, Liverpool, City, United etc. once they've proven themselves. At another club, they may not get the second move so quickly to generate the bumper agent income. We've now proven time and again what we can do for players and how quickly we fold when the big clubs come in. But some agents will be more short sighted and want the bigger, earlier payoff taking their players to West Ham etc. |
| News Comment | Saints V Crystal Palace The Verdict at 17:17:00
I don’t understand how you can state that the defence was a gamble last night? The alternatives available were Caceres or Pied. Surely, playing Caceres for the first time vs a centre back pairing we've had since January would have been a gamble? Plus, you have NO idea what he's looking like in training.... So what was the gamble? |
| News Comment | Saints Now Turning To Real Madrid Striker at 12:46:12
Don't understand people saying loans aren't ideal. Toby is the perfect example of an excellent loan! Hindsight is a wonderful thing - yes we would love to have had him permanently. But look what happens when you do that too.... Gardos, Osvaldo, Forren, Juanmi. For me, a loan is preferable but with a much stronger contract in place around purchase than we had with Toby. Either way - we'll see. |
| News Comment | Sturridge Linked With Southampton Move at 16:54:54
The guy has glass ankles and isn't suited to the amount of running we expect from a striker. On his day, absolute class but an (very) expensive passenger would be my worry. We lack physicality up front that we enjoyed with Lambert and Pelle. We need to bring the edge of steel back to our front line. |
