My and many other Jacks’ capital is London mate. Hope your massive away following of 1,600 enjoyed celebrating a draw like it was winning their cup final. Send my regards to Wrexham fans next season |
| Forum Reply | ‘Swansea will never be a big club and if they are honest with themselves they at 18:09 22 Aug 2024
A big club is one with a big fan base. Time in the top flight, silverware etc has nothing to do with size that’s about success. The real test of how big a club is, is the hardcore. We got 14k for Preston although some of that will have been inflated by the fact it was the first game. I feel like our genuine hardcore is about 12k and when times are good or for big games we can fill the Liberty and could, if we had the capacity, push 25k maybe even more. Cardiff are the bigger club but they should be given Cardiffs population is significantly more than Swansea’s and they have a more populous wider catchment area but I would say we definitely draw on a higher % of support from our catchment area and whilst Cardiff are bigger they should be much bigger/the compared attendances should be much further apart and they are not. Also I think their true hardcore is at our level if not lower actually. 5,718 is what they mustered against Bristol Rovers last week. Tuesday night game but that’s a derby, rovers brought a thousand I believe and when was the last time those clubs met? Now I think about it after typing all that I wonder if they can really be called the bigger club, they just have a larger catchment area for fair weather fans. No way in hell we would have got that low a crowd if we played rovers at home on a Tuesday |

Except that in your case, you often cross the line with prejudice with your labelling of what an entire nation of people think or feel etc. Understandable or should I say not much of a surprise given the sheltered life I imagine you’ve lived being somewhere you’re from but it must be almost tortuous supporting a club in the English system that has always depended on English people for success. Do you just blank that out? Have you ever lived in England or have you ever met some of our English fans? |
| Forum Reply | Sunak v Starmer tonight at 22:41 4 Jun 2024
You can’t deny Sunak won that fight on points. Wonder what Labour voters in Wales will make of Starmer's blatant dismissal of waiting times for the NHS in Wales etc when defending Labour (and definitely not Welsh labour) when Sunak pointed out the worse situation in Wales with the NHS when trying to put the charm on with the woman who had been going through the ringer with the NHS from England. Bad message that by him to one of the labour heartlands (well at least in most of the south). |

Was a big fan of him when he was here. He needs to pay the compensation but congrats to him. Another manager who has gone on to better things due to lack of real support by the Yanks |

I’m not sure you have your finger on the pulse of the average football fan. For me at least, I’ve always thought our pyramid is different from Spain or Germany where there’s only literally a couple clubs who are within any chance each year so it’d be a shame for it to end up like that over here. I appreciate a simple Google search will show you how much United/Arsenal/Chelsea have dominated the PL before Man City got taken over but it seems it’s becoming far more pronounced here. Leicester and Liverpool were nice breaks in the pattern but it seems a one horse race now with promoted clubs having a mountain to stay up when the likes of Brentford and Brighton etc have decent money behind them. We were lucky to be in the PL when we were there. Unless the super league thing actually happens and the football ‘brands’ rather than ‘clubs’ break off |

By which you mean, premier league to a non challenging mid table championship side? |
| Forum Reply | Come On You Irons at 16:25 19 May 2024
Definitely now. Such a spectacle the PL. Man City win and the promoted sides go down, wonder how many years in a row we will see that |
| Forum Reply | Spurs dilemma at 20:50 14 May 2024
I thought it’s been decent, at least maybe because I want Spurs to win. Man City dominating every year just isn’t British lol, and Arsenal are a club I have a soft spot for. Interesting thinking how I’d feel in their fans shoes. I always want the Swans to win even in nothing games (this isn’t a nothing game, I appreciate, although it’s a long shot for spurs to sneak in to CL) but if Swansea losing meant Cardiff missed out on a title or promotion I would take some ‘solace’ |

Yeah mate that was my initial reaction but we aren’t a big club so if there’s a million or two on the table which we have a right to claim then I’d be glad to get it. Say what you want about the owners (I am not a fan of them) but not only are they owners but presumably if they or their ‘people’ are directors (haven’t looked it up) they have their own personal legal obligations under the Companies Act to act in the best interests of the club (section 172). Whether or not foregoing 2m or 1m for reputation risk in being seen as a difficult club to work for well…that’s a question of fact but were it me, if I had barrister advice the claim is a goer I would go for it for the sake of the club and also because I would be a bit worried about exposure under the Companies Act if I didn’t. We aren’t suing Southampton (the contract is with RM, not them) so we aren’t damaging relationships with a club (at least not directly), the release clause will have formed a genuine and presumably significant commercial term of RM’s appointment and whilst our shared concern is putting off future appointments…I think we will be alright. Football is football, this isn’t going to kill our ability to recruit. RM gave the covenant under his contract. If he’s exposed himself to this claim then as I mentioned - if he had any sense he’d have protected himself in his contract with Southampton. This was all on the table and I wouldn’t be surprised, were he properly advised, he’d have got an indemnity from Southampton about all this |

So another club from Manchester is going to win the PL yet again then. Awesome |
| Forum Reply | The Telegraph: Swansea-Russell Martin at 18:49 14 Apr 2024
So I wonder whether we were offered and accepted £1m from Southampton on a without prejudice basis or declined and held out for the £2m whilst reserving rights. Would be the latter if we are going against RM for £2m obviously. I just hope the owners sought and received decent legal advice at the outset when this began and all communications were made, particularly if we didn’t receive anything so we haven’t unintentionally legally waived rights to the full amount or indeed half if we received half. I’m no sports lawyer but I would be surprised if this question over whether a club is in a particular league or not when making an approach and how that is interpreted with respect to a release clause hasn’t arisen before/there isn’t legal precedent. If we lose the case (the fact a claim is being made and the costs that will involve gives me hope that a barrister has opined there is a better than 50% chance) then the solicitors who drew up the contract might have some restless nights as this feels like something whoever drew up the contract should have addressed. My initial reaction is I’m not thrilled we are suing a former manager but that does have to be weighed against the reality that if Southampton just wouldn’t move from their guns and we didn’t budge at the time then it wouldn’t be in our interests for the coming season to drag things out. If Southampton have taken the piss then it is ultimately RM’s exposure under his contract and he would have or should have had talks with Southampton about the risk they created in not paying the £2m |

Well I congratulated them didn’t I. I went to Wrexham in what must have been 2008 for an FAW cup tie and they (well the stewards anyway) were very welcoming. Just not sure the reason for the love in beyond questionable Welsh nat motivations. I reckon they are ambivalent about us at best. Seeing how arrogant their fans have now become off the back of the last few years does put me off tbf |

You are way too sensitive about chants/banter mate; honestly it just cannot be healthy at all. Do you think English fans take it to heart as much as you do when they do exactly the same to each other re English regional stuff? Every fan of an English club we have played I’ve talked to have been sound and see it for what it is, banter. I’m sure there are a couple ‘bigots’ for want of a better phrase that come to the Liberty but I really do think you need to thicken the skin a bit |

Not sure how relevant a thread about the Man City of the lower leagues is relevant to Swansea but congrats to them. Not also sure either re the ‘great for Welsh football’ take is given they have one solitary Welsh player in their senior squad and the overwhelming majority of their players are English. Very odd thread indeed |
