I feel exactly the same way.

There's something horribly squalid about the owners, the way they conduct business and the way they treat both their employees and their customers, us the fans. This was the very last straw for me. I can just about cope with incompetence if it's roots are well meaning but everything about the administration of this football club in the last two/three seasons has brought me no joy whatsoever. It's brought the owners, already ridiculously wealthy men, more cash to lavish on their seedy hobbies and I feel duped, an utter mug.

Owen's an old man. His legacy could have been the grateful support of the town. There might have been statues, named stands. What's the legacy going to be now? He'll be reviled as a charlatan who couldn't contain his rapacious greed when he smelt the chance of making even more money and his idiot son seen as not only out of his depth but a fork tongued spewer of untruths with a vindictive streak for pursuing those he thinks speak out against him.

I was a Riga Believer but the way he's been shafted so spectacularly along with those of us who signed up for ST's on false promises means I'm going to flounce off and find something productive to do with my Saturdays from now on and I might get some work done during the week instead of reading bloody message boards.

Good luck guys - I think you'll need it.

I do have an ST, so there's hope...

Riga is tactically inept
at 12:41 22 Oct 2014

But but but...it wasn't two banks of four in the first half. He had the back four, Lundtram and Perkins in front of the back four and then Oriol, Orlandi and the Fonz playing as a three behind Miller. Because Ibe and Russell caused us so many problems in the second half, the doubling up Oriol and Delfonso had to do to contain them turned it into a midfield four. And that worked up to a point. Despite their constant threat, they didn't manage to create many clear cut chances.

I think he put a team out to do a job in a potentially fluid formation that could have turned into an attacking formation if Derby had had an off night and that nearly paid off. Compare that to Ince who played the same way every single game, whatever the opposition. I doubt we had 13 shots against Derby last season when they absolutely caned us. (Had Ince gone by then?)

I disagree. Not one single Blackpool player would get in the Derby team - I doubt anyone would get on the bench but we matched them and it took a penalty to beat us. With a little luck - MIller's shot and Delfonso's screwed effort, we'd have been ahead. I'm not saying we'd have won but we would have been ahead and they had to work very hard for their three points.
I didn't see two banks of 4 either. We were playing 4-2-3-1 with Oriol and Delfonso dropping back to support the fullbacks to make it 4-4-1-1 when they pushed us - and in the first half they were on the back foot.

13 shots - 9 corners. It certainly wasn't Ince football was it?

Edit - ok - I've realised I DID see two banks of four...

Time to shine spotlight on Riga
at 21:14 1 Sep 2014

The one player we know Riga actually wanted, Cubero, hasn't had a kick yet. Two players who look lilke they can play a bit, Mellis and Orlandi have been injured. So, that effectively his midfield gone and there are NO squad back-ups. In the first match, we couldn't fill the bench because players were not registered. Is that Riga's fault too? Shall I complain to him about the temperature of the coffee at the ground?

I am actually stunned that Riga is under scrutiny here. You should all be thoroughly ashamed

Two players who've impressed me most

McMahon's delivery isn't as great as he thinks it is. I agree he's looking llike a leader but his crosses into the front players and his delviery from free kicks leave a lot to be desired.

I'd say they weren't fit. Cywka was a shadow of the player he was on Saturday. It was the worst game I've seen Perkins play. Lundstrum looked knackered. And we were undone by the mistake made by an inexperienced young centre half who will be a good player. One day.

MIller's movement is really poor though. And he wins nowt in the air for a big guy!

Who'd play Zoko from the start?
at 16:03 19 Aug 2014

And leave Mellis out? Play a 424 with Cywka on the right or an unbalanced 433? I have no clue about Brentford but I think I'd prefer to start with the Fonz playing off Miller to begin with and see how the land lies. Don't want to get overrun in midfield. Run Miller into the ground as we used to do with Ricardo then bring Zoko on. I hate the Ranger signing and reckon must be a couple of weeks off fitness.

The Fonz did play well when he went to the left though. The fullback didn't know where to push him to as he was crossing with either foot. Not that anyone got one the end of his crosses...

THEIR MESSAGEBOARD - BRENTFORD (pre-match)
at 15:24 19 Aug 2014

Mods (are there mods?) can we have this pinned/stickied to the top of the board every week? Always one of my main reasons for logging on to AVFTT.

It's unlikely to get lost in the traffic but hey, you never know!

I also liked Riga's postive attitiude. At the end we were playing 3-2-5 and that 5 included at least 4 recognised centre forwards not just a big lad from the back going up for corners. Not sure yet if you'd class the Estonian guy as a CF. If you do - that's 5 CF's. It's credit to Lundstram, after Perkins went off, that he was able to hold down the midfield and re-supply the front men without much danger of being overun as Blackburn tried to break out.
In fact, Oriol's support of the attacking play down the left made it more a 2-3-5. It was back to Olly's days - go for the point and if we lose 3-1, at least we tried for 2-2. Ince would have shut up shop and taken the 2-1 meekly for fear of having 'his pants pulled down.'

Thought the Blackburn defence was excellent against us. We won't come up against many better units than that this season.

Yup - easily the best game at home for at least a season and a half. Went in with a sense of real foreboding - we then lost a local derby as I predicted we would - came out with renewed optimisim for the season ahead.

I'm doing the Daily Mail fantasy league with some guys from work. I've picked my team soley on players who've pulled on a shirt for the Mighty.

Defenders wise, it's a bit thin - I've had to go 3-5-2 as I could only find three defenders and Blackett was one of them. I got the piss taken when I picked him but points on the board for me already!

(And points lost as United fail to keep a clean sheet - balanced out by Jon-Jo for the Swans if they keep to this score)

Sorry about that Melodican- it wasn't by text so at least you're a level up from Paul Ince. And you did a professional job when you had the mike.

So I'm presuming - and I've not seen us play yet this season - that Mellis and Orlandi are supposed to be our creative outlets. Can't think of anyone else?

Considering the strength of T'Rovers midfield, I'm now hoping for a Ince style formation/gameplan involving booting it to either of the big units we've got upfront while keeping it all as tight as tight can be everwhere else to limit the damage. And I HATED the the dire football Ince saw fit to serve up.
We've no fit right back.... to face Conway.
Does KOKO hate right backs? He seems very reluctant to ever sign one.

Remeber those Venky's versus Oyston debates at 'the other place'? Wonder how one of those would turn out now...

A decent spat like on this thread will bring people over for a look. Although I'm not sure you can have a spat when only one side is spatting.

The site is also missing a good old 'Muslims - coming over here with their sharia law banning Christmas' thread - always brings the crowds in - and I've not yet seen a single post on fish recipes!

I think Millwall suits him. They're a club in a deprived area with a core of proud dedicated fans not unlike us. They'll appreciate his passion. Keeping them in the division is probably his brief and if he can work some Olly magic and take them a little further, all the better. I don't think a) Palace would have him or b) He would go.
