Some spot on points here. All 4 goals had critical moments of quality: From Chair's banger, to Koki's composed touch before the finish, to Koki's salmon leap/Yang's placed cut back/Chair's clinical finish, to Paal's superb delivery. Some of these in the Plymouth home, Watford away, Millwall away games (to name a few) and we would be flying. The progress over time is undeniable, especially when you consider the average age of the players on the pitch at the final whistle last night. |

Thanks for quoting my post that called certain opinions pathetic, rather than posters themselves. |

Thanks for the predictable response. Start a poll on how many insults are required to make a coherent point. Or how many goals need to be scored to conclude that there has been a good performance. Or how many fellow supporters it takes to disagree or disprove your point to see that your 'opinions' are sometimes ill-placed/misinformed/incendiary. [Post edited 15 Feb 14:17]

Came on here this morning to indulge in widespread praise for what can only be described as a professional performance last night and have to say that some of the 'opinions' are truly pathetic. To allow for balance immediately, we did indeed start the game relatively flat and, yes, Derby missed an open goal. Apart from that, they offered nothing - confirmed by every match report out there and their own fans. We didn't really have to be in third or fourth gear as the game was under control following some superb goals. Please cast your minds back to mid-November and consider how unlikely a 4-0 win was at home, then how ridiculous it sounds to say that there was any disappointment about taking the foot off the gas. There is one stark difference between those of us who go home and away and the armchair experts offering contrarian opinions for the sake of it. That being when you are there you can truly see the full picture - our work off the ball last night was the best all season and gave us the platform to win a match comfortably and comprehensively. Additionally, those of you who cannot see the value of Varane may never have played the game. He protects the back 4 superbly and allows the front four greater freedom to do what they need to do. His performance last night as a DEFENSIVE midfielder was exemplary. He is never going to score a hat-trick but that is not his job. So proud of our team this morning, but so disappointed that we as fans can't seem to enjoy an overall excellent performance for what it was. Cue the boring responses to this message about having opinions, being Marti disciples or not being able to go to games. [Post edited 15 Feb 8:21]

As it is JD pushing for the 4+1 deal, then that suggests the option of the +1 year is his option, not the club's. I wouldn't agree to that either if I was Nourry. As previous poster said, he has been playing out of his skin for past 12 months, but was decidedly average prior to that. I also can't imagine that it is Marti's desire to continue playing a CB at RB for the long term, especially given his footballing philosophy and eventual plan on how he would like team to play/setup. |

Completely agree. 3 years seems fair to me too. Would guess that this is currently a game of brinkmanship, with JD's hand being strengthened somewhat by Sheffield United's interest. I wonder if he would genuinely (eventually) walk away from a 3 year deal with us when his family are settled, loved by fans, etc. Would seem strange to walk away from that if nothing else materialised, especially if security is his main motivation. |

Not itk by any stretch, but was talking to a local journalist at the Millwall game about Jimmy's situation. Just sharing what I was told, as plenty of us want to know what has/hasn't been offered in terms of a contract. Was confidently told that the Sheffield United offer that came in at the end of last week was £400k up front, rising to just under £2mil depending on appearances, promotion, etc. We have had a straight three year deal on the table since the start of the season, but have been at an impasse with JD as he wants a 4 year deal with option for a fifth. Effectively he wants to commit his future but we won't budge beyond 3 years, as it stands. Feel free to shoot at me if that's what gets you through the day, but just sharing what I was told. |

Varane is a Rolls Royce. He has had months in the championship in a new country and is capable of controlling the midfield. He will only get better. Could be a player that attracts big offers in a year or so. Every big team requires a defensive midfielder who can break up play and retain possession. |

It does. Until the Sheffield United game on March 1st we have: Wednesday (h) Millwall (a) Blackburn (h) Coventry (a) Derby (h) Pompey (a) I'm looking at that and struggling not to get carried away. The way we are playing we could seriously get at least 12 points from that. None of them will want to play us. I need to lay down. I can't spake. [Post edited 21 Jan 22:46]

Got a little tingle looking at the table... Not just 4 points off the playoffs, but 6 points from 5th! This league... This team. So, so proud of the team. |

Obviously you have raised this poll to garner further 'interesting' and 'fascinating' responses after watching the Plymouth game twice from multiple angles? Superb work here Tonto. [Post edited 18 Jan 20:05]

With Marti 'no matter what' because it was one game in the FA cup and is not indicative of his managerial ability overall. We are lucky to have Marti and I will continue to appreciate what he continues to do for our club. Have a good evening all. |

On the train back towards London now. Yes we made grave errors today but find it incredible that those who have the most to say about Marti, in particular, are the ones not there. Anyway, key points: - 4500 there were brilliant, the noise at times in the away end was deafening. You couldn't see us but everyone could certainly hear us. Proud to be among them with my boy. - the fog was ridiculous, the game absolutely should have never gone ahead. There were times in the first half where we couldn't see anything and that had to play a part in the game. - not making subs at half time killed us. Kolli's goal just before half time but we weren't able to build on it when madsen and Ashby were left on. This is obviously Marti's mistake but I'm with the man, no matter what. - playing with Madsen is like playing with 10 men. We have to not let this turn into a hangover that seeps into the next games, which are massive for us. Same old FA cup performance as a Ranger. We survived Vauxhall Motors and will do the same again here. |

As a few above have mentioned, it is critical that as many of our players are available as possible to try and salvage something, anything. We simply cannot afford to have as many injuries as we have at the same time and continue to compete. Of course the point then comes back to recruitment and who's strategy it was to go into a season with only two strikers, one left back, etc. It really hurts at the moment. I wish anyone in the senior management team (above Marti) felt even a fraction of the pain that us mere mortals feel right now. |

I've literally logged in purely to thank Padulas_Shampoo for somehow capturing in words the disappointment, sadness and disdain that I feel for my beloved rangers at the moment. I haven't been able to put it together but could never do it the justice that has been done in your response sir. All those calling for Marti's head is not a problem at all, but they must answer a few questions. Who else but Marti then? Why further destabilise a club already on life support with no answer to question 1? We simply cannot continue the same churn of managers year in, year out and continue to complain that we play like a team with no identity or plan. Where has our club gone? |

Really feeling the same pain as other posters on this, we all are. My son turned 6 two months ago and absolutely loves us, knows all the players, etc. This year is his first season ticket after going to the odd few home games last season (all Saturday afternoons). Pompey at home will be his 10th match and he is still yet to see a win. He is desperate to see us win and even asked after the Plymouth game why all the other teams seem to win and we don't. I had to apologise to him and say that I'm sorry to have done this to him. It feels like I have inflicted the Rangers curse on another unsuspecting victim. He's so proud to wear the colours and sing the songs, I just worry about Rangers beating him down! It's not about just wanting to see wins but loving something shouldn't be this hard should it?! Rangers til we die, no matter what. |
