| News Comment | Six Could Potentially Leave Southampton On Deadline Day at 09:39:23
If we leave costs aside, I would rather JWP than Smallbone. I really don't have any love for Ings, but him and JWP seem to be boyfriends so might come as a package. I'd be surprised, but I suppose there is always a slim possibility he could score again - but at his age he would need them put on a plate, napkin tucked into his shirt, knife and fork placed in his hand and a waiter to dab the sides of his mouth after every mouthful. |

BTW I was saying we loan him (if wages are subsidised) and see if it works out for a cut price deal in the future. West Ham probably won't allow that, though. Can see him being hard to shift - West Ham had a shocker. |

Yes, for his character alone. We are oversubscribed in midfield now if we get Mateus in, but I think he could be a real asset around the squad. Maybe he would be happy enough to play a role like Lallana now. I think he will 100% go into coaching or managing, so it could be a good move for him. We would just have to be careful we don't spend too much on wages. |
| News Comment | Southampton At Newcastle United The Verdict at 13:34:11
OPinions: 1. Brereton-Diaz was a joy to watch. Southampton always been too innocent, I like having someone who can spice up a game. Hope he keeps on winding up people and causing a nuisance. He didn't do anything wrong. If he did, VAR should send him off and they didn't. 2. Top keepers make 1/2 horrible mistakes a season. With McCarthy being forced (and he is being forced) to play passes all the time I think he makes a mistake every match. Needs to change. He is a decent second keeper if allowed to play the way he knows how. Bazunu still made mistakes playing like this and more than the top keepers, so we need to find the right keeper or change our tactics slightly. 3. Loved our signings this year until we got Archer. Not sure about him. Lesley looks great though. Out of all our signings I can only see Archer being a waste. It is extremely early and I could well be proved wrong, but that is my gut feeling. 4. I can't wait for our next game. |

I think our transfer dealings have been great so far. Can’t see any waste so far. Ramsdale on loan and I’d be happy with our business until January. Yes, we are a bit light upfront, but I’m happy with the bottom half of our spine. What worries me more is playing out the back at all costs - this is where we could really fail this season. This is more important than getting an O’Riley or Coutinho |

Maybe I was a touch low with ABK based on his age and the fact he has German caps and 2 years left on his contract. But with his injury problems, I might not want to spend over 10m on him. In fact, transfermarket website has his current value at 12m euros, so about 10m. We shall see. Prob have most clubs asking for loans, as per usual. Alcaraz might suit this for us as he has many years left on his contract and if it goes well we might fetch a higher value for him. ABK would only have a year left on his contract if we season loaned him again, thus reducing his value. Same with Sekou. |

Lavia was 50m because he was bossing midfields as an 18yr old in the premier league. He performed against the top teams. Had the pedigree that he came from Man city and had rave reviews from Pep. Listened to managers and did what he was asked to do - disrupt play, not lose possession and control a midfield. More importantly he had two of the richest clubs in a transfer battle for him and he had loads of time eft on his contract. A perfect storm for a high price. I have no doubt Lavia will be a success when he gets back from injury at a top team. Alcaraz comes from a south amercian league. Looks to be a positive player who has a bit of flair. But that's about it. He hasn't been consistent over a number of games (or he would be starting every match), he looses possession too much, is probably a bit home sick and doesn't speak the language. If we want Alcaraz to be worth 30m, we need him to buckle down for a season here in the premier league, bide his time and learn to play for a manager, learn English and have a voice on the field, score some goals from midfield as well as being tighter with and without possesion, get stronger and fitter etc. If we want to sell him now he is worth maybe what we paid for him on his wages after scoring a few goals over a year ago in premiership. In my opinion, of course. |

£70/80m BowlerCow? What are you smoking!? ABK maybe £10m (injury prone) Mara maybe £7/8m (if anyone actually wants him) KWP maybe £15m (just wait 1 year and get him for free at 28) Tall P maybe £8m Alcaraz £10m (if anyone wants to pay that for him & on £40k/week) I count £50m and that’s ONLY if people actually want these players. Like I said ABK hasn’t done jack merd for a while and has injuries. Mara couldn’t be consistent even in the championship and has too laid back an attitude. Alcaraz is still a gamble and wasn’t wanted by Juve. If I was a club I’d only want two of our players. KWP and I would be waiting to try and get him cheap at the end of the window when we are desperate to get money for him to pay for our other targets. And the other would be tall Paul, but I’d probably only buy him if I was in a weaker league, still think he could work in a higher league, but still a gamble. |

I think we are telling him he won't be playing next year now we have bought Sugawara. I think the club, now with a replacement bought really don't want him running down his contract. I also think they NEED him to be sold in order to get their other top targets like O'Riley or Fabio C. I love him and wouldn't mind him staying and fighting for his place or moving Sugawara in front of him. He could be the difference in staying up with his experience and quality - which could in turn be a good financial decision, especially if he does sign a new contract. But I think he is a goner :( |

The Shea Charles move the other way is interesting. I have seen good things from Shea, looks very classy at times. However, I just think he misses the bite of a Lavia or Downes to really make him a great player. I think the move to Celtic would actually be really good for him and we could end up regretting letting him go. But I think if we can get £12-15m off the O'Riley price and maybe only pay £7m, then it will be a good win-win deal for both clubs. |
