| News Comment | Saints In The Market But Not Desperate at 12:50:44
I'd be interested to see if Ralph could work with Carillo and get him playing or whether they see him as simply not good enough...? Hughes didn't fancy Bednarek - but look at him under Ralph. Is he worth a chance instead of blowing the 19 million we spent on him - or does the 5 goals from 18 starts with Leganes and his bro-mance with Pelegrino mean its not worth it? |
| News Comment | Should Saints Go For Gary Cahill at 12:42:16
I agree with Sonic Boom & Saintjf - we shouldn't be complacent about our defence. Yes - it is getting better (Bednarek especially) - but still some way to go and lacking quality in depth. I'd trust Ralph (H!)'s judgement on Orban and whether to bring him in to strengthen & lead. Definitely not Cahill except on a bargain rest of season loan while we are waiting for a permanent longer term addition (like Orban) in the summer. |
| News Comment | Watford Could Be Hughes Last Stand at 18:03:51
I'm not saying anything more than anyone else - but Reed has to take responsibility for the last 3 years of poor player recruitment & retention and decisions on managers. I'm not one to call for Krueger to go - but my fear is that he is led so much by Reed on footballing matters that he hasn't got the wherewithal to sack him and replace him with the right person. We should start the recruitment with a new Director of Football (or whatever Reed is called) - someone who has a relationship with a Coach that can come in with a chance of getting us out of this sh1te. I somehow expect we'll get Reed appointing Allardyce where we might get a few half decent results in the short term, but ultimately ending up struggling with a style of play even further away from the days of Pocch & Koeman (and the spirit under Adkins) which we all crave. |
| News Comment | Saints V Chelsea The Verdict at 13:11:43
Agree bstokesaint - how can we say the club is well run when ensuring we have a squad of players capable of competing has to be paramount and is failing before our eyes. I commented after the Liverpool game that I hate all this "well, they are better than us.... X goals to nil could have been worse.... they've spent more than us" talk was just defeatist. From what I see on the pitch, I can only assume this is the mindset of the management and the players as well as fans. We are in deep trouble this season - unlike last season I don't think there will be 3 teams worse than us. I'm not after Kruegers' or Gaos' blood - but I never thought MH was the right man and Reed has to take responsibility for failed managerial and player recruitment. We haven't recruited players who can prevent goals, players who can score goals (Ings the exception) or Managers that can train or put out a competitive team. For the record - I'm not a social media whinger. I'm a fan of 45+ years who just doesn't want to be disappointed EVERY week. |
| News Comment | Saints At Liverpool The Verdict at 12:39:26
Personally, I don't like all this talk of accepting we are inferior and we just roll up to the top 6 clubs and take the beating and be happy its a game ticked off. We are not performing as a Premier League club and should be worried whether we can get more points than 3 other teams. Whilst some may say its realism, it smacks of a defeatist attitude which has permeated this club for too long. Even in our struggling times in the 90's we used to pride ourselves on giving the odd top team a real game and occasionally getting the result. All that has gone - and with it, erodes my passion for the club. Don't get me wrong, this isn't on the basis of one spineless performance - this is on the basis of 2+ seasons. |
| News Comment | Saints Need A Leader On The Pitch ! at 13:26:37
We are not the only team that have struggled with leadership on the pitch, many have had this problem for years (the national team being one..). Maybe it says more about the modern team environment or modern players not responding to this on pitch leadership..? Talking to a Villa supporting friend of mine, whilst JT cost them a fortune in an ultimately unsuccessful Prem push, it was noticeable to the faithful that he galvanised the defence/midfield in times of pressure. That's what we need.... not JT (for heaven's sake..) - but someone who can step up and control things when backs are against the wall. Fingers crossed Vestegaard or Hojberg or someone else can do this.... and MH recognises this is needed and develops someone to play this role. |
| News Comment | Hughes Impressed By Saints Transfer System at 12:47:33
Credit where credit is due - Saints have been much more positive & definitive in their transfer dealings in this window. Compare that to the slow & too deliberative approach previously. Except for any departures and other additions (we still need a striker, imo), we now have a squad of players that stand the best chance of gelling before the season starts. We haven't been able to say that very often. How they perform is another matter entirely & only time will tell... |
