About 20 yrs ago, there was a mob calling themselves Farnham Urban Guerrillas (FUG) down there. Priceless tinpottery. |

I’m block five, the queue just before KO was insane, our lot got in through block 8 (I think) where there was little or no queue just stewards losing the will to live. Some clambered up through corporate to get to block five whilst we played dumb with the stewards feigned ignorance and we were escorted to the exit doors next to the turnstiles we normally use and we made it in with a minute or so on the clock. Absolute shambles. Six seats vacant in front of us and a family of four were placed there at half time. Regular mush who sits behind us said that someone was sat in his seat with a valid ticket, it had been double booked ffs! If we’d stayed in the queue I think we’d have got in at about 2.30/40. As it was we’d agreed that we’d slip off back to the pub if that looked likely. COVID protocol for entry was non existent too. [Post edited 23 Aug 2021 17:30]

The Elly wasn't even the toughest pub in Sholing or Thornhill let alone the city ffs. Only pubs in the east side I would've been wary of would be the Swallows , Target, and the Rising Sun in Weston. Less knowledgeable about the west side tbf. Thing is, if yo know a few mushers in each pub you'll be ok. Also, if you act the cnt, you'll get sorted wherever you go. |

Lived in Sholing until '98 when the was 24, pretty rough but not as bad as Merry Oak, Weston and Thornhill. As a nipper I'd rarely venture into any of those areas a small it would generally end up kicking off. Was nice chased from Eastpoint in Thornhill by 15 lads all the way back to Sholing (3 of us), they had knives, felt like I was in the Warriors film. Similarly thing happened in Bitterne for no apparent reason too! As I got older I was less intimidated. Funny thing no is all the areas on the east side pretty much hate each other but would generally unite against the west side (townies). Silly, petty tribal stuff really. |
