| News Comment | Southampton V Manchester City The Verdict at 08:41:37
PaleRider, I want to like your comment twice. Spot on. I am slightly more concerned about FF. He is massive and brilliant at close range, but he was motionless for La Porte's goal (the one lapse by our defence as we had 4 marking thin air and 1 marking 4), and also the Cancello and De Bryne shots (and the wolves goal last week). He is brilliantly responsive, but not so good at anticipation. Still his ability to stop close range saves is a net positive. |

Agree about VAR and offside, if it looks level, it is level, no need for the lines give benefit of doubt to the attacker. They can learn from cricket, pick up the howlers. Also the rules need to change re handball. If it bounces off your body onto an outstretched arm, fair no handball, if it marginally deflects and hits an arm it woudl have hit without the defection that is handball. Happy if this goes against us. I would rather this than the indeterminal wait we have now. |
| News Comment | Despite Fan's Uproar Southampton's January Transfer Window Is Reasonable at 12:46:46
I for one will be pleased not to see Ralph have to turn to Long when we are a goal down and then rest of the team is running out of stream after 70mins of high press. Long was brilliant in 2015-16 but has streadily declined and is now a shadow of that player. I think we have secured a gem and it will turn out to be shrewd business. Agree with Nick. We have been blessed with the emergence of diallo and now have 3 quality midfielders, 2 of whom can play full back, (JWP looks made for it) with a decent crop coming through from the acadamy, Watts and Smallbone both look tidy. We also have 3 decent CB's when the big Dane is back with Stephens also good as a defensive full back. We have 2 quality full backs in Bertrand and KWP and decent cover within the squad. Where we were lacking is the get a goal to save a game option. Long and Nlundulu havent done it, but I think Minimino can. |
| News Comment | The King Of The Scummers Is Back ! at 14:07:57
It was superb to see him on the subs bench and 1 days training, and then to come on at half time and play like that.....just fabulous. With his injury record you fear the worst, but in this case I think we can hope for the best. If he can play 30 games, that is 20+ goals; difference between top 6 and mid table for saints. King of the Scum...I love him. |
| News Comment | Josh Sims Speaks Of The Need For Regular Football at 13:34:16
Top 3. It is my number 1.......I tingle at the thought of it. The game against Newcastle in 93 when Le Tiss scored those 2 wonder goals was good, but that goal in that game in the 91st minute, with that tension.... |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Expresses His Love For Southampton at 22:56:58
I really hope he stays. The way we are playing is the best I have ever seen. The whole team is growing, even Romeu is venturing forward with real purpose! I only wish I could be in the stadium rather than on the edge of the sofa with my son (who thankfully came to the 0-0 against burnley in 18, so realises how good we are now!) Koeman was blessed with VVD, Mane, Pelle etc. The way the whole team works is just superb, sadly that may be the downfall. He has lasted 80-90 games in all his previous appointments and is 73 and counting. I can see Man U, Dortmund or Bayen coming for him. Furthef back I loved the Strachan team, and first went to the dell to see the great team of the early 80's, but in recent times this is it and I dont want it to end. I hope the bond forged in the aftermath if the score that will never be mentioned means something when they do. |
| News Comment | Saints Expected To Start The Salisu Bidding at 17:52:52
squeak through again? I may be a ludicruus optomist (!) but we are playing brillaint football of the like not seen since Koeman. Our high press is destroying teams and JWP is having the season of his life. I am looking at the fixtures and dreaming, assuming Ings, Stephens, Bednarek, Armstrong and JWP stay fit...I think this is realistic. Wolves W Palace W Liv D Burnley D Villa W WH W New D Norwich W Ars D Watford D MC L Everton L MU L Brighton W Bournemouth D Sheffield U W 26 more points, 56 for the season, pushing top 6! My £40 at 4.5/1 on a top 10 finish is looking tasty.. as is my £100 on liverhampton at 3.6/1! Happy days, but it would see us pillaged again in the summer. |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Is Not Afraid To Play The Youngsters at 10:17:53
Krisaint, I agree completely. Targett is our best crosser by far, but never goes past anybody/overlaps, Bertrand has been our best player for 18months. On the other side Valery looks like a rabbit in the headlights and is going to be destroyed by Sane. The one plyus point is Obafemi over Long. Shane was brilliant in teh Koeman team, but his days are numbered now and I failed to see why Hassenhutl brought in on against west ham. The only way we are not going to get hammered this afternoon is if we score first and Man City feel the pressure. |
| News Comment | Hasenhuttl Speaks Ahead Of The Arsenal Game at 20:58:50
Hope.....Fecking hope! where had that been. What a great game and we scored at the end...go looking for the goal says Ralph and we did...COYRS PS long scored plenty when Koeman was boss. He has potentail and teh cross for CA was just sooooooo perfect, as was Target's, as was Redmonds. Quality play by the team |
| News Comment | Never Minds The Transfers Here's The Free Ice Creams ! at 17:36:38
My kids, who I am bringing to their first ever Saints game on sunday. I have high hopes that CA will play 25+ games and Manolo will be suited to Hughes style of play. We have a more likely midfield (Lemina's 2nd season, Armstrong and Elyounoussi ) so I don't think we we struggle for goals...3 days before the first game, we have to be optomistic! You never know, this might be Josh Simms's breakthrough season. I really like the way Saints did their business this transfer window. 2-0 to Saints: Armstrong and CA to score |
| News Comment | Saints Announce Big New Signing at 18:47:11
Great signing that fits the Saints template. I have a sneaky feeling that next year we will see a 'new' CB in Bednarek. He looked the buisness at the latter end of next season and was impressive in an otherwise lacklustre polish side at the world cup. With Hoedt in his second season and stephens as back up, I am not concerned. I would also like to to Simms be given a chance to establish himseld in the first team. A livewire, with extreme pace, if he can just sort out his decision making, he could be a great home grown player. Feeling really positive about next season. COYRs |

My prediction: Burnley draw Stoke win Newcastle loss Wigan win West ham draw and then on we go... |
| News Comment | Season Defining Period Begins at 11:17:08
This is why I support Saints...bring on the rollercoaster...It will have despair and triumph, quicken the pulse, put holes in the ceiling and see the dog sloping away in fear. Should be able to get to 2 of these games and can't wait |
| News Comment | Ward Prowse 3rd In Power Rankings Table at 18:40:51
Saintmark76: I first started watching saints with Jimmy Case caressing the ball and David Armstrong bossing the midfield and thundering in 10 goals a season. They were both proper players |
| News Comment | Pellegrino Now Has To Show He Can Get It Right ! at 16:31:19
March will be key...we need at least 10 pts from those 5 games or else we will be in the doo doo's. The 5 of the last 6 games are tough and unless we are playing really, really well we are not going to be climbing the table once April has started. We have to be safe by April fools day... |
