Even before central contracts, players from successful counties not being availble due test matches was always a problem. "Victims of your own success". Understand that this situation was a bit different as there are no england games clashing, but both teams have had players missing whole summer. And Middx lost most overs to weather this season, in games where they probably would have gone on to win. Middx in the 80's and 90's were decimated by test call-ups. Oh and, Cricket australia refused to let us have Adam Voges for the last few games. Our captain and averaging 77 with the bat. |

TRJ and Gubbs. Feckin heroes. Somerset whinging - contrived results happen all the time and they WOULD have done the same. Yorkies moaning about Strauss banning Root and Bairstow. News for you lads - central contracts. England main priority. Any England manager would have done the same. Hampshire relegated - wonderful Surrey no where - shame they didn't go down too. Fantastic day. |

Was in Barbados last month when I was suddenly surrounded by cricket greats - all over for Garry Sobers 80th bash at Kensington Oval. Courtney Walsh, Curtley Ambrose (one scary dude - but lovely bloke), Clive Lloyd, Ranatunga, Mike Procter, Brian Lara and Collis King. Was like a school kid - shook hands and had a few words with most. Collis King was well up for a chat when I said his knock in 1979 World Cup final still pisses me off. Had a good few rum and cokes with Mr.Proctor who regailed stories about the old days and some very interesting ones about his time as match referee from which he only recently retired. I spent more time with them than the wife and kids for a couple of days - but fu** it - worth the aggro - wouldn't you? |

Another here - watching on BBC updates. Was hoping for four day wash-out in both games to settle the nerves. Just as worrying is Somerset - playing crap team and are 280-2. Anyone know the points situation given that Somerset will win? Doesn't that mean that a no result at Lords gives them the title? |

Same - but only because it will mean the match is over, Keep checking the score like a masochist. |

I hope the coaches of the MCFC team are proud of themselves. At which point did they suspect they had the 3 puts wrapped up? When the 15th goal went in perhaps? Under elevens ffs. Take players off, put your cf in goal - loads of ways to make a game of it and to try some new things out. Have coached teams from u10 to u18 and see this sort of thing every season. Once we got to 5-0 I'd take a player off, go 3 at the back. That way I was able to test different things and at the same time, make a match of it. Sad. |

I think its all a littl more sinister. He was obviously unfit having tweaked a thigh muscle in training. So why did he play? Probably the same reason his namesake played in the 1998 world cup final despite having a nervous breakdown. Brand and sponsor pressure? |

Cant prove that I didnt see a unicorn at the bottom of my garden last night - but why would it? Onus is on me to prove such a claim. Hypothesis - there is a unicorn, i saw it Obtain evidence - set up cameras Detail evidence - show why its not a horse with a hirn strapped to its head Postualte theory regarding reasons behind facts - the unicorn is now fact, how did it come to be there Gather further evidence to back-up theory This is how science works. And if any evidence gathering contradicts' theory, the theory is re-thought. So no, not just assumptions. |

Feck me - its getting worse. Why am i still watching? |

It is the Boleyn Ground in Upton Park. I think everyone knows that - but everyone seems utterly detemined not to say the "U" word tonight. Wondering if the new stadium is gonna have Boleyn in the name somewhere - seems like some sort of marketing thing to me. [Post edited 10 May 2016 23:25]
