On the subject of increasing the fan base what do you think is really going to start attracting new supporters? - Better quality players perhaps, well yes that will attract some, however if we are charging the same as or more than other Prem teams why choose us? I'm sorry to say it but whilst the prices remain this high with people being squeezed in the recession you are not going to attract the masses. Whereas in the past people like myself would have gone to every home match, we now have to pick and choose, and I for one have seen us play twice in the cup against Chelsea recently and one in the league, now I'm saving up for other teams. And just in case anyone asks, yes I know it's selfish but I would rather have my team in a league I where I could afford to go and watch them with my kids than in a league where I can't afford to see them live, coupled with the fact that I know we haven't got a hope in hell of winning unless there is a major restructuring of the game.

Im surprised that there hasn't been more said about the whole pricing of this game. Lots of people saying they can't afford this game due to the time of year etc which i thought would have been pretty obvious! As much as I love the current board and are such a class above T&C it still goes to show how detached from the real world they really are still (in terms of the working class) I think if the tickets had been £30 more people would have been tempted, I know its only a tenner but it looks a lot better value for money. I think they may have got caught up in hype of our rivalry and forgot the fact it is only the cup and the time of year. Lessons to be learnt certainly but i don't think you can judge our general support on not selling out 1 particular game in a couple of days.

I'd be depressed if this sold out in a day and we didn't pass 16,000 for wolves and wigan - at least people are going to watch the Rs and not the opposition.

not another new ground thread again on 15:13 - Jan 27 with 1212 views | essextaxiboy | I am not going and its purely about cost. I wouldnt go without my son so thats 70 quid tickets , I have 2 airports tomorrow so thats another 150 quid dropped. I spend just over 50 on a matchday on trains beer and food. A 270 quid reverse , over a third of my season ticket cost on one game . Id love be there to see it but its a no brainer really . Maybe offer 2 cup tie tickets in with the season ticket , to be taken by choice . If we get drawn away carry them over ??

Ok, let's do the maths on this (and I have started to write before getting the calculator out) So far the most we have had for sell outs was 18,076 (Man City) & 18,050 (Chelsea). So to make things easy we will round it down to 18,000 dead I believe we have given 3,000 to Chelseas which would give us a max of 15,000 home supporters tickets to sell. If we work on the premise that there appears to be approx 1000 tickets left then we are saying we have sold 14,000 to date. Therefore the argument says that we should sell them at £30 to sell out the entire game £40 x 14,000 = £560,000 £30 x 15,000 = £450,000 So purely from a business point of view they have risked a non full house but make an additional £110,000 on the day in ticket sales. Now I know that there is a valid argument that additional income would come in from programme sales, food and beverages but that would need a minimum average spend of £110 from those £1000 people to claw that back. I think those of us who watched The Four Year Plan and witnessed the financial discussions involving catering and flower costs will realise that ever penny is counted to try and make the plc work towards getting a little bit self sufficient, so I guess that £40 a ticket is justified in their minds because against a Cat A side, they will near enough sell out with a £40 ticket price regardless.

"the bottom line is there should not be a spare seat in the house for this game" Well, you say that without giving any arguement to support it other than "you say so, therefore it is the bottom line" Hopphoops makes a good point about the games that we have sold out and travelled in numbers to, to support the team against less glamorous opposition. Our support is loyal, I've been to some shit holes this season and watched us play badly in front of large and noisy support.

£40 ticket, plus.... fuel or tube costs, beer money or cokes and snacks for kids, programme £3. Its going to cost me £60 tomorrow a week after my girls 2nd birthday and that will include a programme and a few beers. It is a lot of money for families to be paying out agree. Im sure there are lots of fans out there that cant afford it especially families that take 2-3 kids along.

i agree, if we were to have a 30,000 seater stadium with better facilities, I do believe we would attract 25-30,000 to most games in the premier league. If you look at the tickets available online there are around 900 which are majority restricted views or singles. If the club charged £25 for Wigan ticket it would sell along with the other typical category 'c' games. The category 'a' games should be around £35-40 and the fans would pay to watch at these prices - not £57 for category 'a' and £45 for category 'b'.

I am not well paid myself, but when people say "I have to buy a programme and some beers" I struggle to understand them. Don't buy a programme or get too many beers (especially at HQ) and you will save a fair bit over the course of a season.
