The Folly of Rushing to Today's Green Solutions on 15:01 - Dec 30 with 652 views | Boundy | The rush to green will outweigh any benefits its perceived to have and will cost us billions , new overhead lines for example built with imported steel , alloy fittings , glass or polymeric insulators ( which ever is costed the cheapest) ,hundreds of miles of conducting cable, foundations albeit on completion will be small certainly in comparison to a wind turbine or solar farm but during construction will impact on the environment . Then the substations again with a large footprint containing steel structures , large quantities of SF6 gas to provide the insulation (dependant on the size and design of the substation).Huge amount of medium voltage cabling systems for protection systems , in fact thousands of miles of cable within each site, all of which needs to be mined and manufactured). The drive towards carbon neutral in such a small space of time is going to cost us greatly imo.

Like I said those making the decisions won't care about that, they won't be paying for it another pointless vanity project. Labour want to be seen as the government to drive it on, look what we done etc. except they have no idea about the cost of it all, we'll just pay for it all and we won't see any benefit from it, the cost of energy will increase without a shadow of doubt, it needs stopping and stopping it now.

By going hard 25 years before the target date, we are going to end up with a load of obsolete technology, it's stupid people making the decisions who have no idea about speed of change effects. [Post edited 30 Dec 2024 16:26]

The fact that many countries don’t see us as that or don’t give a sh1t dpseems to have no bearing on our policy making!

They don't care about that they just care about the prestige of doing it, "Oh look at what we have achieved" when in actual fact they've achieved naff all, cause it'll all be obsolete they're not paying for it though.

As individuals we have to pay for the vanity of our politicians, while the rest of the industrial world sticks up two fingers and laughs.

The long-term economic outlook is looking worse by the day. with several policy initiatives taking us in the wrong direction. it looks pretty much inevitable that Reeves (or a successor) will have to increase the tax take yet again before long.

There's a good book, "The March of Folly" by Barbara W Tuchman in which she explores why governments pursue policies contrary to their own self interests, examples include Japan attacking Pearl Harbour, George 111 losing the American colonies and then the USA's actions in Vietnam. I think our government and their pursuit of net zero comes under this title. We are spending ever increasing amounts on something that makes so very little difference to the world but is doing enormous harm to our own economy. Political vanity, stupidity...anything else?

The UK never dumped acid rain, strange notion. Port Talbot children MAY be healthier, but they could end up in poverty too. The rivers are filthy because water companies have ignored the laws and regulators haven't done their jobs. cabling...it is hoped? Surely they know, they know what they used and if it is designed that way. We'd use public transport if it was suitable, it doesn't work for us. China and India aren't following the western lead, or do you have evidence? Inida's pollution is rising. Your shares, of course the money is going to shareholders, if you actually get 300 quid, how many shares do you have and how many have those companies sold, you likely have a tiny percentage of the total number of shares. One national grid share sells for £945.00 today. Blackrock investment owns 307,977,440 shares, Merrill Lynch 216,654, 059. Do you own a few hundred? The dividen this year is less than 16p per share.
