Russia withdrew its fleet from the Tartus naval base in Syria as they could not guarantee its safety with the rebels advance
In 2022 Russia increase its presence at this bases as it was not longer able to sail its warships through the bosphorus straights in Turkey. It is not certain where its fleet is sailing to as it has no other naval bases in the Mediterranean. Some reports say the fleet will sail to Kaliningrad.
It seems Russia cannot protect its fleet or citizens In Syria as they know have limited air support in Russia and lack the logistics supplies to mount mass ait strikes in Russia.
Also today the Romania courts have declared the first round of its presidential elections void citing illegal activities by a foreign country and mass transfer of funds from from Russia to individual bank accounts in Romania. |
It looks like al-Assad’s family have fled to Moscow but he is still there - for now. I suspect the regime will collapse in the near future and we’ll see more blood shed and lives lost in a civil war amongst the various factions.
