Dale v Bromley (FA Cup 1st Round) Match thread: 13:52 - Nov 2 with 15675 views | Yorkshire_Dale | Just been reading that if we win today we pocket £45000......enough to keep the lights on a bit longer. Plus we are then guaranteed a further taste in the next round win or loose. Looser today gets £15000. These are useful figures to a Club like ours. Let's give it a really good go!

Dale v Bromley (FA Cup 1st Round) Match thread: on 23:25 - Nov 3 by 442Dale | Were the attacking changes to how we were set up denying them the opportunity to play to their potential? Specifically talking about how Burger and Henderson were employed. Or are we saying we should have played that formation from the start? |
It's been established that those changes shouldn't have been necessary, had we started the game in the right frame of mind, but we don't - we start every single game in a way that invites the opposition to establish a foothold, and most teams take that opportunity with both hands It may have made for a "spectacle" but the people who turn up aren't mere "spectators"

Although, to be fair, we have scored 5 goals in the first 15 minutes of games this season and conceded 4 in the same time (2 of which were yesterday and one was last week at Barnet). We have scored 8 goals in the first half-hour of games and conceded 6. And, we have scored 14 first half goals and conceded 9. Lies, damned lies and all that....

There has been comment of McNulty not having a plan B, not changing things. Thats why I asked about those specific changes, enforced or otherwise allowing the players to play to their full potential. The latter question remains, should we have played that formation from the start? And I agree, they’re football fans and Dale fans who many have said want to see entertaining, attacking football. Which is what they saw, without the desired result, which is how it goes sometimes. Halifax fans might have said the same after the game the other week.

So any sort of advantage we give to the opposition may not necessarily mean we are falling behind early on. Only once in 15 league games is surprising, it’s amazing how perception isn’t always reality. Which then points to finding a way to be as attacking as possible from early on in games. Which is what I think everyone has said from the start of the season! Everything else is mere details.

Dale v Bromley (FA Cup 1st Round) Match thread: on 23:55 - Nov 3 by 442Dale | At no stage have I defended it. But I have managed to give the manager credit for his impact on what happened inbetween. Worth noting we may not have won the Halifax game had we defended late on like we did yesterday. But we did because we defended well. Yesterday we lost playing much better attacking football. That’s how the game is sometimes, I guess. |
Yes, in between the chaos we played some great football and scored three good goals. Credit to the players and manager for that. When you lose and concede four goals at home in the process though it's irrelevant. Pub teams struggle to concede two goals within the first few minutes of a game and then repeat the same stupidity in the last few minutes. It was all stupid and I think the manager was just as culpable as the players.

Interesting stats Taken over a series of league fixtures - and as i said earlier - JM could claim that what he's doing is working. Play-off spots don't happen by accident My overall concern is the growth of the club under the new stewardship. We have to get more people through the gates and for them to be become fans, i.e. looking forward to turning up. Our core fanbase remains pretty loyal, but it's not enough and how many of those who may have come along for the first time in a while would've gone away thinking "yeah, that was worth it" even if the enforced changes allowed us to play well for 80 minutes? There's no stats that can tell us that, but when even loyal fans are getting naffed off that speaks volumes

They want to force that mistake, get us to misplace a pass under pressure, or force Dale to lose out on a heavy tackle that the referee might wave play on. We should use an option that has us playing it safe, use the wing backs, wide players, oof it even. Keep it safe until we confident and adjusted. Fuk freedom to express, stop giving the opponents gifts. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Why do we have to wait until we've lost the game before we take the shackles off and start playing the football that were capable of? We've been 2-0 down in the last two games and then seen us play some great attacking football. Conceding four goals at home isn't good and I was more angry than entertained on Saturday. We're better than that.

TVOS, have I got this right...? From 0 to 15 mins we have scored 5 and conceded 4 From 15 to 30 minutes we have scored 3 and conceded 2 From 30 to 45 minutes (plus any time added on) we have scored 6 and conceded 3 Would it be possible to see how this pattern pans out for home and away games? Looking at soccerstats it seems that we are doing better on most measures away from home but that the teams we have played at home so far are stronger in terms of goals scored than those we have played away. And comparing the last 8 games with the first 8, goals scored per game are falling slightly at -3.6% whilst goals conceded are up +59.6% and points per game are down -25%. Which suggests the early flush of success has begun to fade, as it so often seems to do at Rochdale. Saturday was disappointing but I would suggest the manager will see the positive of being out of the FA Cup in that it gives a bit of space in the calendar for a bit more rest and recuperation. Better not waste it Jim....I would hope that tomorrow night will see the least number of players from Saturday as possible starting the game and as many subs as possible being used as early as possible to get those player off the pitch. Overall it seems the old football saying that forwards win matches but defences win championships is still valid...

"Which suggests the early flush of success has begun to fade, as it so often seems to do at Rochdale." Or at most clubs who don't win the league or end up getting promoted. Anyway, you'll find them all here: https://www.soccerbase.com/teams/team.sd?team_id=2175&season_id=157&team

Ignoring the two cup games, at home we have scored in the first 15 minutes against Braintree and Woking and away against Eastleigh, Aldershot and Boston. Solihull are the only team to have scored against us in the league at home in the first 30 minutes. Until Barnet, York were the only team to score against us away in the first 15 minutes. Eastleigh scored in the first 30 minutes away. I don't think there is much of a difference in the overall quality of teams we have played home and away given how close it is in mid-table. The idea that we tend give away early goals and are forced to chase the game is a bit of myth. In the 15 league games where there has been a goal we have scored first in nine (four at home and five away). A better point would be that when we take the lead we could do more to extend the lead. Having said that, if we score first we win, apart from Ebbsfleet. We also score a lot of goals in the last 15 minutes compared to our opponents in the league. Things could change going forward as the sample size is still quite small, so a few more Barnets and Bromleys would change the picture.
