AFC Fylde Match Thread 17:53 - Oct 11 with 22437 views | Delboy | Looking forward to the game. Proper FA Cup tie for me. They will be fired up after last weeks drubbing of Aldershot and with a new manager to impress. We will have a decent and hopefully vocal away following with the players up for it after being frustrated at Ebbsfleet. Add in the National Leagues top scorers in Houghton (11) and Mitchell(9) and we have the recipe for a great game. Hopefully we can keep the mistakes to a minimum and progress into the first round proper in what appears a far tougher game now than when the draw was made.

AFC Fylde Match Thread on 08:33 - Oct 13 by NorthernDale | I thought Babayo seemed to operate on the wing, instead of operating at fullback, one thing is certain, he seems to have some pace and seemed keen to get the ball into the box at the first opportunity. In respect to Mitchell, he may be worth an extension, but either way, if the right bid comes in for him and I don't mean peanuts, can we stop going and progressing his career. It would also seem the injury curse as struck again, with McBride and Akinde both being out for around five to six weeks. |
Exactly if the player wants the move then its happening. Wouldn't blame Mitchell at all. We've been down this road so many times before

AFC Fylde Match Thread on 00:11 - Oct 13 by Sandyman | What a fine and comprehensive win, well done Jim and the players. Caught the second half commentary online. As others have said, it was very fair minded, with due praise given to the Dale fans who "never stopped singing". Brett Ormerod commenting on Ian Henderson wearing 40 on his shirt, "how big is Rochdale's squad?" was not well researched, but he made better observations as well. Better than listening to FRMSE talking his usual nonsense on the first half of Oldham v Halifax on Radio Bolton. Such a shame that "the lowest ranked side in the competition" (the worst side, bury of course) still have never played an FA cup game proper, despite claiming they have won it twice. Two rusty sheriff badges on a club crest do not a trophy make. Who do you want next? Assuming it's not regionalised, Weston-Super-Mare away could be fun. Dale are ball 55 in the draw. https://www.thefa.com/news/2024/oct/11/emirates-fa-cup-first-round-proper-draw-b UP THE DALE [Post edited 13 Oct 4:02]

I'd take Bolton away. Their home form is poor and 50% of a 20,000 gate is worth having. Ideally of course I'd take two winnable home games and then a big one in the third round. But Birmingham, Bolton or 'Uddy away would be money in the bank (and I do think that Bolton is a winnable one).

Bolton would struggle to get 10,000 for an FA Cup first round tie (They had 4131 v Mansfield in the Carabao Cup this season; 5,523 v Solihull Moors & 5,703 v Harrogate in the FA Cup last season), never mind 20,000. Their last two home league crowds have also been below that figure. Also, the cut of gate receipts is less than 50%. Huddersfield would get an even smaller crowd. [Post edited 13 Oct 12:24]

None of the larger clubs will draw a big attendance in the first round of the cup, historic attendances tell you that. The money spinner for us would be one of the bigger L1 clubs at home and for it to be televised. Birmingham, Wrexham, Bolton, Stockport, Huddersfield, Blackpool.

AFC Fylde Match Thread on 13:55 - Oct 13 with 3679 views | NorthernDale | I have been thinking, who would I choose to get in the first round 1. Birmingham: either home or away, a decent gate and money earner. 2. Huddersfield: as above and it is local 3. Curzon Ashton: a nice local tie and a winnable game. No doubt we will get somebody in the south.

Lovely little club, in a beautiful market town, but a ground with a capacity of just 1000. So if they get a home draw, not much cash in it for their opposition.

Most of those wouldn't bring anywhere near the amount of fans you think for an FA Cup first round tie against a National League club, especially Blackpool. Birmingham are probably the exception, mainly because they haven't been to Spotland before. Plus they would probably all beat us! The best way to make money is to progress as far as possible.
