How did this term for a faux meat product become used in its contemporary way of describing internet stuff
Spam means tins opened for a cheap lunch

It comes from the Monty python song I believe.

On another note how the hell is spam so expensive these days?

I believe it’s available still in Home Bargains although here in west Wirral ,the consumption of this would lead to social exclusion

The origin of the name comes from" S pecially P repared A merican M eat . It was a mainstay for the american forces in WW2 and supplied to the GI's . It retained its popularity post war with the home market hence its presence on supermarket shelves.
Personally, I eat quite a lot of spam It's great sliced thinly and fried in a pan with one or two eggs . Try it you will see what I mean . There are 2 varieties of spam there is a tin of bacon spam and also the pork meat one , both can be fried to good effect.

Fried spam and eggs really is the business, particularly when cooking outdoors.

In Swansea I remember two in particular, Colin Presdee and later Roger Blewett.

It was Saturday night in the Smiths in Llansamlet. He was a brick ice by day and put on his white overall to sell cockles in the pub at night. Made good money.
I forget his name.

Swansea Indepenent Poster Of The Year 2021. Dr P / Mart66 / Roathie / Parlay / E20/ Duffle was 2nd, but he is deluded and thinks in his little twisted brain that he won. Poor sod. We let him win this year, as he has cried for a whole year. His 14 usernames, bless his cotton socks.

One for my next Quiz question answer in the bank , nice one .

Really did not know the backstory to the product though , good info too .

Spam and Corned beef in a tin , that little supplied key as the can opener still about .

This could be your year for POTY. You would have a hard job matching the last two winners.

Between the two of us,the most erudite is RichardO
The most “ intelligent” Joesus
Most belligerent is Dr Winston
Most likeable are Pete and Rhondda boy

I’m the most annoying and compulsive contributor though ,and the most humble ,by a mile

I won POTY on another site but the result was vetoed

Is that true? I always believed it was a portmanteau of Spiced Ham?
