I think Simon as done his best, but like most of us may be, he is totally out of his depth running the club. Yes we need investment, but we also need leadership and vision and no matter what you think of Chris Dunphy, I would invite him back onto the board. I may be wrong, but did he not have a consortium to invest in the club, but Simon and Mr Knight wanted him to buy them out. If Dunphy can get investment into the club, without buying the present board out, then may be the way forward.

The biggest problem is that we are in the absurd position of being asset rich, but cash poor, so we could get a loan on the ground, but we still need proper leadership to run the club in a proper manner.

It seems there is a risk that the fan base could split down the the lines of we need the money let's hold our nose and hope for the best and Simon and the board are pariahs who must be held 100% responsible for destroying a football club founded before the first flight took off, let's start again at the bottom of the pyramid and see where a phoenix club goes.

Are you seriously suggesting that this has been unavoidable?

The current Chairman and Board aren't fit to run a bath, never mind a football club. The running of the club since they came in has been a disgrace, the reason the club is on the brink of liquidation is down to the running of the club since they walked through the door.

You seem to omit the statement from 2022 when the club returned to be a prudently run football club - lets face it, it never was - but that wouldn't fit in with your ridiculous defending of the current board.

You can carry on putting lots of figures, long posts and saying circa a lot - but the reason the club might not be here in two months is become of Simon Gauge and the board, no one else.

It's very much "unavoidable" almost inevitable even when you've got the current lot sat behind the wheel.

The way they have run the club and their decision making both on and off the pitch is there for all to see, bad decision after bad decision and a complete failure to engage with anybody in a meaningful manner. You comment on people on how you find them. The Chairman even had a swipe at the fans for interfering in the sale of their own club, its a good job they did, look at what he had lined up! He always knows best though. You can only say what you see and there is overwhelming evidence to show that he is out of his depth and so are the rest of the Directors.

The terrible engagement with fans has made the situation worse I agree. Regarding the bad decisions on and off the pitch I'm not sure alternative decisions would have turned out any better.

Start by looking at them not doing their own due diligence on what they were getting themselves into, that's a good start James. Then look at the money they blew on transfer fees for non league footballers and the two year contracts. Look at some of the people they employed on the commercial front. Look at how long they persisted with failing managers. Look at how they detached themselves from the fan base, they barely muttered a word for nearly twelve months. Look at how they ignored offers of help from well meaning individuals. Look how they they applied lip service to the Trust and fan groups who were willing to help. Look how they failed to do due dilligence on a bunch of chancers and then blamed the fans for karboshing the deal. Look how fans again had to sound the alarm in relation to another investor who was found supping in the Black Dog Pub. If you're trying to suggest the fans are over reacting James then let's have your defence for the accused. This has been going on for a long time and is well documented, it's not a witch hunt or a misunderstanding.

If the football club had any financial concerns throughout the last 2.5 years then bringing in three players in January 2022 (Ball, Charman and Campbell) wasn’t necessary. Nor was “significantly” increasing the playing budget the following summer.

That’s not hindsight, that’s how we chose to deal with the situation at the time.

The Chairman insinuated in a statement that interference from the fans ( doing due dilligence) had resulted in the deal collapsing, or hadn't helped. The fellas he was involved in talks with were chancers who had lead him down the garden path. Time wasters who he had got involved with. The fans did him a favour, he should have thanked them but he didn't.

I agree the treatment of the fans and the trust how they reacted to the due diligence regarding the proposed deals has been diabolical.
Regarding Manager's and transfers these only turned out to be bad decisions in hindsight. It's not a defence it is just I can't see that alternatives would have worked out any better.

Not sure if your last point refers to my previous post, James, but I’m not talking about whether the players were any good or whether results were good or bad, but it’s the simple maths.

If a club has financial issues they shouldn’t be spending more than is affordable on the squad. See the Bury thread.

It’s staggering and obviously convenient how easily some forget.

I think it was still just about mathematically possibly at the time had the signings of Ball, Charman and Campbell paid off and we got promoted back to league one via the play offs it would have been seen as shrewd business. Had we signed no one and been relegated to national league in 2022 then the board would've been held partly responsible for not bringing in players to bolster the squad.

My guess is at the time those decisions were seen as affordable. So the question is what did they get wrong or what didn't go to plan?

We were ten points above the drop zone at the end of that January. And the following summer?

Best leave it here, James. There’s no hindsight involved if the financial situation hasn’t been good for the entire period. It’s either one argument or the other.

We were proud to be a football club who cut its cloth accordingly. Simply that.

Hopefully not. We have knowledgeable and trustworthy fans who will give us all direction during the next week or so in regards to the best way forward. I'm not one of those knowledgeable fans by the way when it comes to the intricacies of what's being suggested. The fans and shareholders work well when they pull together.

I wonder if the club as a potential investor, who as set down conditions of any investment?

One thing I dislike is discussing our financial position in public, it undermines the club, the team and make us look a joke outfit, most other club seek to keep it in-house. Yes I am worried about future, but I also fed up with some Dale fans talking us into oblivion, we have an asset in the ground, which many clubs do not have.

I agree and wish to comment upon your point the Chairman "having a swipe at fans for interfering with the sale of their own club" was totally unacceptable, those fans who post on this forum have been absolutely amazing, rooting out the shitehawks, the same shitehawks whom if the Chairman had had his way would now be stripping assets and running the club into the ground !

SG did actually get one thing right that Dale are asset rich.
Besides the ground being worth £2m or more there are several players who willbe worth money, East, Gilmour, Everett, Mitchell, Mane the young kid at Southampton on trial.
It is a pity that Dale cannot cash in on these players but could face losing them in the summer for nothing.

Imagine that you own outright a house worth £1million but you have zero cash in the bank.

You are asset rich but cash poor.

You get a bill for £10,000 that you MUST pay but you do not have the funds to pay it. You could try to borrow some cash but you find that you cannot use your house as collateral because of something in the deeds (Morris amendment, National League).

Your only options is to sell your house to pay the bill (liquidate your assets).

This is similar to the situation at RAFC.

Voluntary administration would be an option but this would only add costs. The administrator would try to sell RAFC as a going concern, probably at a lower price than it is worth.

If an offer of say £2 million was tabled then they would likely accept it. They would then take their cut and distribute any remainder to shareholders.

The new owners would have the business (club) and debts to pay but their £2 million would be in shareholders hands and not the club's coffers.

If they could not sell the club as a going concern then they would then liquidate the company assets anyway, again take their cut, pay the outstanding bills and distribute what's left to shareholders.
