Essex had four representatives in the U19 World Cup competition in South Africa in 1998.
The four then were Ian Flanagan, Jamie Grove, Graham Napier and Steven Peters . Napier and Peters become decent professionals, Flanagan struggled to score runs and Grove’s cricket career never took off.
They all came home though with winners medals !
