Looks like the Manchester leg is being scrapped, on top of it not ending in Euston or Birmingham New Street.

So we’ll have a train running from QPR to just outside Birmingham City centre, with the time made up lost by having to get to these stations.

It’s going to cost 2 Liz Truss budgets.

What an absolute disaster this thing has been. How these politicians can get away with it is criminal.
So much money wasted o something that very many people seemed to agree was always a white elephant.
All those people who wanted to shave 30 mins off their travelling, if it was for business they could have saved the time of the entire journey and the expense by having the meeting online.

Sinch when did common sense override wasting taxpayers money.Yet another (but not required) promised project consigned to the dustbin we call the UK

Well I expect the Rhondda leg of electric tracks being placed to be scrapped at some point.

We were still running pacers up here when we had a train service.

While England is getting ultra electric trains?
What a joke.
HS2 was a vanity project.

It’s been a huge waste so far. Before a single shovel had been put in to the ground, consultants fees had cost the taxpayer £600m. The 10 year old plan for Euston saw £100m shelled out before they came to the conclusion the plan would need to be redesigned. The cost of redeveloping Euston has gone up from £2.6bn to £4.2bn and the whole project from an initial estimate of £20bn it’s now coming in at £106bn.

As of March this year, HS2 has cost £21.4bn.

I’m not a Drakers fan, but people get hot under the collar when it comes to sides with WG but seemingly very little is said when it’s Westminster wasting much much larger amounts of money.

hang on now, Major, this thread is about Westminster waste, things do get said. it's just that living in Wales we complain about things Welsh that affect us every day.

There have always been things said about UK government, we had some right ding dongs over Blairs government back in the day.

The whole thing is just as pointless and wasteful as electrifying the rail line from Bristol to Cardiff.

Countless millions spent to shave mere minutes off a journey time.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

If Drakeford had done this, there would be uproar and petitions everywhere

We’re talking very different sums of money here.

Should the redesigned and limited project come in at the expected £60b pounds, it’ll be approaching the entire Senedd budget for three years.

If my arithmetic is correct, £60 billion is 2000 times greater than what Wales has spent on the speed limit

HS2 is the great welsh train robbery.

A so-called England and Wales investment is factually an England only investment.
England gets HS2, whatever version.
Scotlands gets up to £10 billion.
The north of Ireland gets £1.3 billion.

Cymru gets nothing, robbed of £5billion.

This is the union for you.
Working against the welsh national interests.

I'm certainly no expert, but can someone explain why trains in Europe are so much cheaper, faster, cleaner and more reliable. Anyone here in the industry?

Yes, privatisations over the last 50 years or so have seen the Uk's family silver sold off to foreign concerns which has seen the Uk robbed off investment, robbed of wealth and it hasn't helpe that we have put complete steaming eejits in charge of so many things, including Downing street too...yes Bojo, I'm talking about you.

The voters believed in the myth of neo liberalism promoted by Thatcher, and still haven't completely seen through it. Yet, Drakeford is some kind of monster.
