Port Talbot Steel Works given huge UK government subsidy on 06:02 - Sep 16 by felixstowe_jack | Have you read the STORY. Two quotes from STORY It could mean 3000 job losses across UK. Under photo is says TATA employs 3000 at Port Talbot. If all 3000 jobs were lost at Port Talbot it would mean the closing of Port Talbot. I do wish people would read all it before telling people they are wrong. A good news story for Wales yet people still complain. Not like WOL to highjack the BBC story then make the assumption that all the job losses will be in Wales. WOL ceased to have any credibility or journalists years ago ago. |
Over 4000 work at Tata and the rumoured 3000 job looses will be across the country where Tata has Industries.

Meanwhile we import steel from the likes of China and India which apparently is manufactured using non polluting pixie dust.

South Wales Evening Post was once a fantastic newspaper with some fantastic journalists like Susan Bailey who campaigned for local NHS services. An absolute diamond she was, she would also appear in her free time on Kev Johns Sunday morning show raising awareness and concerns about local NHS services, she knew her stuff..... SWEP's become a pale imitation of its community-champion/campaigning former self. I ponder if the newspaper will eventually shut down because it has daily sales now of only 6,000-ish. I guess the internet hasn't helped, but neither has the quality of the newspaper that is stuffed full of advertisements.

Port Talbot Steel Works given huge UK government subsidy on 11:59 - Sep 15 by felixstowe_jack | The job loss figure of 3000 jobs was across the UK not at Port Talbot. Without the subsidy all 4000 jobs at Port Talbot would be loss as well as another 4000 in the UK supply train. It is simple modernise or die as an industry. It has always been madness that Port Talbot has has to import foriegn coal while Drakeford's Labour have stopped all coal production in Wales. |
One in Merthyr is still going without planning permission or approval of the Coal Authority or WAG. It is working outside its permissions. I brought it to your attention two month back. It was under the title "a very strange Welsh affair". Extinction rebellion were to only people acting and they were arrested. I suspect it has been waved through by the decision makers.

Where do we start? I'm not a fan of Drakeford but do you genuinely believe that he is responsible for this? Another example of the UK privatising the profits and socialising the losses or costs. I understand you will go to any length to defend the Tories and neoliberalism in general but come on.

The transition to sustainable steelmaking at Port Talbot is also expected to reduce the UK's entire business and industry carbon emissions by 7 percent, Wales's overall emissions by 22 percent and the Port Talbot site's emissions by 85 percent. This probably needs to be done to hit Welsh and UK targets. Whether we should be making sacrifices to hit these targets when many countries in the world don't give a stuff is another matter.

I could have sworn Margaret Thatcher (the school milk snatcher) closed down the coal industry in Wales. You know, the English Tory PM

Wrong again more Welsh coals mines closed in Wales under labour than Thatcher. Wrong about milk as well. Thatcher stopped milk in secondary schools Labour stopped milk in both Junior and infant schools so labour actually stopped milk to more children than Thatcher. Though what this has to do with saving Port Talbot from closure is beyond everyone.

It happens worldwide wide to keep vital industries alive. Makes sense to keep a functional steel industry rather than rely on imported Steel from countries that still use polluting blast furnaces. Guess you would rather see everyone in Port Talbot unemployment relying on government handouts.

State intervention is a socialist concept. The uk should re-nationalise rail, energy, water, steel, etc tomorrow. Its an English Tory disaster capitalist failure again, paying shareholders and fat cars instead of investing in the future was doomed to fail. Corrupt Tories should see jail time.

I’m happy for them of course, however seeing my hard earned tax money going to fund the dividends of the shareholders and billionaire owners of a foreign company doesn't sit right with me This proves unrestricted capitalism doesn’t work

Not necessarily. He posts from a Tory viewpoint We either have democracy or we don’t If we do,it means, not everyone has to vote for one party,so if somebody in Wales wants to vote Tory then they can. And they do,no matter what killyken says
