Mansfield away thread. on 17:00 - Apr 10 by tony_roch975 | could it help that he's now playing right side? |
Yes, I’d say so. We still have hairy moments at the back but even EEL is impressive at the moment too. It’s all turning into what could have been but while there’s a chance I’ll stay positive.

Mansfield away thread. on 17:15 - Apr 10 with 4963 views | 442Dale | Got to win the two home games then see where we are. To even have a chance is going to go a long way to getting McNulty the job permanently. Only a total slump from now until the end of the season will cost him. Not saying this is a preference, more an assessment of the situation.

What ive seen under McNulty has been a breath of fresh air.Players cant be questioned on effort recently and we are entertaining. We obviously would need have a bit more than that to be competative but its not a bad starting point.

These players are showing some fight, albeit belatedly. Credit to them. Interesting comments about McNulty’s chances of getting the job. I tend to agree that 5 or 6 points in the remaining games may be enough for him to get the nod. Tbh i’m Not sure how I would feel in those circumstances. Think he has always been great around the likes of Adshead and matheson, and is rightly well regarded by many at the club, but he is an EFL man and has no non league experience at all. I think it is a bit of a different beast in the 5th tier. Interesting times.

Noticed McNulty put an arm round his shoulder and have a few words in his ear after the match. Hopefully saying don’t worry about it as the goals will come. Fingers crossed they come next week

When those fresh legs consist of a youth teamer, Quigley and Ball he's handcuffed as to what changes he can actually make for the better.
Mansfield away thread. on 18:31 - Apr 10 with 4320 views | dawlishdale | There's no doubt in my mind that we would have lost that game under Stockdale or EBJ. It's to the credit of the players and the caretaker management team that we didn't get a good beating today, but some of that must come down to Mansfield wasting half a dozen really good chances, plus some fine saves by ROD. That said, we could have won it ourselves near the end, but overall, they were on top for long spells. So...plenty of positives for me, and some much improved individual performances from what we saw all too often a month or so back. But, the short goal kicks have to stop, Dodgson has to be taught how to take throw ins and Jim must utilise his subs a bit earlier (I wouldn't constantly take Lloyd off for example) I'd also be looking to bring Mullarkey back asap in place of Keohane who is too slow and negative. Is it all too little too late? Almost certainly. The decision to remove EBJ was delayed a couple of months too long, but the players are at least showing the fight that was lacking when it really mattered. Mansfield away thread. on 18:45 - Apr 10 with 4199 views | NorthernDale | I have not heard Jim's comments yet, I was surprised that we only made one sub, but perhaps he did not want to unsettle the team performance, which subs can sometimes do.
Mansfield away thread. on 18:49 - Apr 10 with 4148 views | RotherhamDale | We were desperate for a sub to hold the ball up in that 2nd half. I wanted Quigley on for Mellor. But then Mellor started to get in behind and cause real issues. It's a shame he couldn't finish the couple of chances that he had.

Looking at the highlights he really should have passed it to either Odoh or Lloyd who had an open net. Can't complain with a point at Mansfield and it looked like we rode our luck at times. Just a shame Harrogate have picked up valuable points over Easter - with us playing them final game we had a bit less points to make up. We can only win our next 2 home games and see how it looks then.

Mansfield away thread. on 00:42 - Apr 11 with 3166 views | 49thseason | I think the players are enjoying McNulty's methods as a breath of fresh air from the atmosphere generated by Bentley. Most of them signed up to play for a generally well respected coach in Stockdale who ultimately may have produced better results than Bentley achieved, we will never know, but we are now getting a glimpse of the possible. Clearly Bentley was out of his depth and couldnt generate the spirit and willingness that we now see. His appointment was panicked and ultimately costly. Staying up now seems unlikely, that being the case, the work now has to be to build for next season which probably means appointing McNulty as full time boss sometime before the end of the month if results and standard of play continue to progress. Hopefully the Platt Lane facilities will continue to be used and will help to attract the players we will need and the MRTK scouting systems will unearth some new talents from places we have never looked at. Maybe we need this probable break from the EFL to undertake a proper rebuild and come back much stronger, on and off the pitch.

All good apart from the idea that we maybe need a break from the EFL. There are no guarantees we get back in….see Southport, York, Hereford etc. What we need a break from is poor decision making. Bentley should have been fired as soon as he insulted the playing staff, and even moreso when he changed a winning team and went on a long losing run. Sending our talented midfielder to Sheff U and taking on loan their incompetent goalie were other own goals.

Dropping O'Donnell for Eastwood after the win at Bradford has to go down as one of the worst decisions in Dale history. Regardless of anything that happened before or after under Bentley - that 1 moment will most likely cost us our 102 year stay in the football league. He is solely accountable for that.

Agreed, it's one of 3 absolutely pivotal decisions that we got wrong this season. Dropping ROD for Eastwood. Letting Brierley go out on trial halfway through a season Giving Hartlepool 6 and Crawley 4 points. Despite this recent, encouraging turnaround it will most likely be too little too late, which makes it all the more frustrating as it was all so avoidable.

Nail on the head that 49th, I was thinking just the same Saturday. The “dead cat bounce” we got when EBJ came in soon fell apart once the players decided they did not like him or respect his methods (ok there is no proof other than results) look at Quigley for example. I worked for a fair few managers and one helped me out a lot after a job change, I would have walked on hot coles for him purely due to mutual respect yet other managers I had I would do the opposite. The fact EBJ left without any thanks to anyone whereas RS walked away with respect and dignity says a lot!

I have to agree, I'm particularly interested and looking forward to hearing the explanations behind the "poor" decisions to agree to send Ethan "on trial" and continuing to play Eastwood when he clearly wasn't/isn't up to the job !

Doubt the board or Ethan’s people will reveal the circumstances of the “try before you buy” ( or not as the case was). Although I think the seeds of it were sown when BBM let him go for a while to City. My gut feel is that his agent saw the opportunity to get a first contract signed which allowed for a similar circumstance. Bearing in mind the club were rightly mad keen to get him signed. That is only a gut feel, and I doubt the full detail will ever come out. Who knows, EBJ might have decided to drop him, if he had stayed. He made some strange decisions during and after the window.

I’m still convinced that the decision to sign Eastwood and the idea of sending Ethan on approval to Sheffield United were somehow linked. It’s also maddening that Ethan still wasn’t picked immediately when the deal at Blackburn fell through although I appreciate that he was perhaps in limbo whilst an appeal was launched. He’s certainly worth a lot more than £80k though!!

Its not a typo, I think its a down payment on something like ÂŁ250k . Blackburn paid it to pull us out of a hole they felt responsible for as we had spent money we didnt have on Mullarky when the Brierley deal didn't clear the deadline.
