This week's podcast on 11:32 - May 18 with 2049 views | SonofNorfolt | Add to this that Warnock kept mentioning the January transfer window from early December when it was known that the club weren't going to let him near any financial negotiations ever again. I wanted him out, it's just the replacement selection wasn't thought through either.

This week's podcast on 03:45 - May 18 by charmr | Sorry I just wasn’t a fan of his, says what he wants you to here. Coupled With that stupid badge, boutique club £200 slippers and cashmere blankets, Ecclestone, the pathological liar Paladini and as a Rangers legend who worked under Briatore once described him as the most horrible person they have ever met. Didn’t feel like Rangers any more. Hard for me to enjoy that season and the upcoming ones. It was a good team though, played some exquisite stuff at times with Paddy Kenny being magnificent. Warnock lost the dressing room apparently after slaughtering Faurlin for not fouling in a counter attack that cost us a late goal at LR. Can’t remember the game. Feel the club has its identity and it’s soul back now. I care about that stuff that’s all. [Post edited 18 May 2020 3:59]

I understand the criticism, the club was going through an identity crisis, yet we had undeniable success, which can create conflicting feelings. Warnock did what he had to do, and that was manage. He manged the team, the board and the fans. He had to juggle a lot of people's needs and expectations and that seems to be something he was very good at. The phone call with Helguson was classic Warnock. A bit like Holloway, Warnock is someone that occupies a particular space and time in football and I'm glad we had him. This week's podcast on 10:42 - May 18 by daveB | A lot of the stick Warnock got that Premier League season came from defeats to Liverpool and Man Utd where we didn't really lay a glove on them and seemed just happy to be there. There was a real rumbling among the fans on the way home from Anfield that day that he might not be the right man, I thought that was insane at the time and still do but it wasn't all down to fernandes our fans played a part in his downfall as well. The home defeat to Norwich where Joey Barton got himself sent off was the killer blow for him imo rather than the MK Dons game. |
I was at that match in Anfield and honestly thought we could have drawn it. Cerny was outstanding that day and Suarez was clearly offside when he scored the winner. In life, you have to play the cards you are dealt. Warnock was dealt a poor hand at the beginning of the season and couldn't get the players he felt we needed. There was a delay in completing the takeover. Until then, the outgoing owners were not going to spend money to reduce the size of their return on investment. Routledge would have joined but for a naively self-imposed salary cap of £25kpw, which got blown out of the water when Barton signed. He joined fellow promoted side Swansea instead and played consistently well, as expected, for them over the following seasons. I'm struggling to think of any of the players who we signed in that supermarket rush before the transfer window closed, who made a lasting, positive impact on the club. Buy in haste, repent at leisure. Large egos, with salaries to match were introduced into a tightly knit team and the rest is history. Would Warnock have moulded a better "team" if the takeover had been concluded earlier? I can't but think that he would have. Such a "team" may have had confidence in their manager for the duration of the season. Would we have ended up with multiple Champions League medal winners and the Brazilian goalkeeper on the team the following season? Probably not, but that may not have been a bad thing.

Broke my heart that game, and not just because of the result. I’m not Liverpool fan but had never been to Anfield before. Found it full of Scandinavians and Koreans taking selfies and a choreographed ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ for 2 minutes followed by 88 minutes of silence. Conversely, Everton away was class. Yes, I was reminded of Holloway's story-telling powers. On the debate about why we got rid of Warnock, wasn't the reason that (like many other clubs) we were obsessed with staying up at any price, and were desperate to show that we belonged in the Premiership?

This week's podcast on 21:51 - May 18 with 1587 views | BAWHoops | Was a great listen, but like Ollie he tells the fans what they want to hear! As Clive says the cock up was over Christmas especially Sunderland at home where we came from 2-0 down back to 2-2 and then chucked it away last minute. Barton and his ego against Norwich was awful as well.

This week's podcast on 06:10 - May 19 with 1496 views | superhoopdownunder | Great podcast. Neil Warnock did an incredible job in turning us around - saving us from relegation and then taking us up the following season playing wonderful football. We started the season in the Premier League well but we were starting to fade and at the time I remember wanting Warnock out. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and based on what happened afterwards I would have stuck with Neil. Even if we had gone down he would have been the best person to get us back up. Cheers, James
This week's podcast on 07:25 - May 19 with 1459 views | ShotKneesHoop | The best thing about this podcast was the mute button used so that Warnock was allowed to just talk without any interruptions. Get him back after he has read Barton's book and ask him to critique it. Also ask him what he thought of Hughes management at QPR. That's another couple of hours sorted as long as the mute buttons stay on.

This week's podcast on 10:29 - May 19 with 1406 views | Phildo | I wasn't going to listen to this as NW can be a bit of a one when it come to 'reinterpreting' the past but I listened to this last night and I have to say it was very enjoyable - probably the first time in lock down zoom has been better than in person as it just allowed him to talk without interruption. A big guest like that works better as one to ones rather than a group thing usually. Dave Mc has always written that he had plenty of opportunity to sign players in the summer after promotion and he seemed very keen to get his version of that out there refuting that.
This week's podcast on 11:53 - May 19 with 1355 views | Paddyhoops | Superb interview with Warnock . Fair play to the podcast panel who let him tell his story without interruptions. Even Finney , bless him, kept his counsel. He could have kept going for hours and unlike Ollie, he didn't ramble on talking bollocks. Some very interesting points on the pre season debacle. Sounds like the poor fella was doing his job with one hand tied behind his back!!

This week's podcast on 11:00 - May 18 by Northernr | For me it was more the Norwich and Sunderland games over Christmas. There'd been a general understanding that our fixtures were bloody tough through November and December, but we then had Sunderland, Swansea, Norwich and MK Dons over Christmas and won none of them, losing the two home games. |
Think I welcomed Warnock's sacking and the arrival of Hughes, so this is all with the benefit of hindsight, but... I remember us playing well v Swansea and being unlucky to draw (think their goal was a handball?) and the Norwich game was the Barton/Johnson incident when we had been 1-0 up and in total control. Remember us being poor v Sunderland but only lost to a last minute winner. Not to say I disagree that it was a poor points return, but such fine margins and a lot of it out of Warnock's control (refereeing decisions, Barton being a moron).

This week's podcast on 12:52 - May 19 with 1305 views | robith | I was behind Neil all the way but that Norwich game had me very alarmed. Lambert completely out-thought him, especially with the sending off. Norwich switched to 352 and were killing us down the left. I was with my mates in the Paddocks that day and Clint came over and was like "Boss, you've got to change something" and Warnock's reply was "you'll have to run harder"

That's fair and an interesting insight. I'd forgotten about that Lambert tactical switch - Morison and Hoolahan came on and absolutely killed us.
This week's podcast on 13:21 - May 19 with 1272 views | Northernr | Granted, but then Norwich had a much better summer, much more settled backroom situation, Lambert allowed to do as he wished and build the team he wanted. And we were still doing ok in that game until St Josephine got himself sent off.

Clint only playing at all because injuries forced NW to backtrack on sending him away on loan to Forest.

Wrong on all counts and profoundly regretted. |

That Warnock should have been sacked, and that it's good that TF engages with the fans on Twitter. Actually, the way Twitter has gone, it's a bad thing that's done a lot of harm to our club IMO.

Varies from person to person. Think with Warnock they had him for a live podcast a year or so back which was booked through his agent and we'd kept in touch since then.

Well the dressing room couldn't have looked more gone from the outside at the time of writing, he later then said as much himself as you pointed out. Approving of a more communicative owner than the psycho despot that unambiguously treated us like sh!t not exactly controversial either. Still isn't a bad thing per se and doesn't automatically equate to naivety (eg, idk, Darragh McAnthony for instance). The point I'm making here is that these things being true and the club finding a decade of ways to deteriorate further since are not mutually exclusive unless you're arguing there's no possible way it could have turned out differently.
