Apology to Joe Lumley 12:39 - Jan 6 with 4088 views | Snipper | I’d like to apologise for my comment about Joe Lumley on the thread about him a few days ago after the Hull match. It was a heat of the moment comment that I regret writing. I will be fully behind him from now on. There is no hiding place playing in goal, so any mistake is magnified compared to an outfield player making a mistake. On the off chance you browse this board Joe, I’m sorry.

Apology to Joe Lumley on 17:14 - Jan 6 with 3313 views | stevec | Fair play to you. I said something similar so should really follow suit. That said, wasn't there yesterday, watched the highlights. At 0-0 Kelly pulled off a brilliant fingertip save that pushed a fierce shot onto the bar. That save has gone largely unnoticed. At 0-1 we might have seen a whole different scenario. Possibly reflecting on a 50th 3rd round defeat, the usual '1st round' capitulation. Instead we move into the next round. Then there's the potential sums involved. We could get a big draw, the sort of money that decides whether you get a new centre half in. That centre half could be the 6 point difference on reaching the play offs, could be the difference of a £150 million versus £5 million pay off if reaching the Premier League. I would hazard a guess Lumley is probably on 7 to £10 grand a week, somewhere in the region of £350 to 500 grand a year. Sort of money a very decent actor might pull in, who also gets slagged off if their performance to a paying public isn't up to standard. For all we know, the fact many of us took the time to air our grievances, irrespective of how unpleasant we may have been, may be why we are still in the FA Cup, still in reach of an unknown income that could be generated towards a brighter future for the club we follow. Ultimately, only Lumley has the answer to this. Improve his performances and he won't get the social media backlash. Hugill has had criticism about his Row Z antics, even had it christened 'doing a Hugill'. His answer was to get his knee over the ball, essentially do his job properly. Job done.

You have no idea how much Lumley is paid Steve, so you’ve weaponised a completely made up point.
Apology to Joe Lumley on 17:50 - Jan 6 with 3186 views | TacticalR | I found the criticism of Hugill a bit puzzling. I know he's blasted a few over the bar, but even before the Swansea game he had scored more goals in half a season than last year's top scorers (Freeman & Wells) scored in a whole season.

I think that management would have been well aware of Lumley's form and |I doubt they'd have been swayed by the online criticism of him. I think that saying that the online criticism of Lumley has somehow done the club a service is being charitable, to be honest.

Apology to Joe Lumley on 18:17 - Jan 6 with 3113 views | flynnbo | Overheard one "supporter" claiming Kelly could never have tipped that early shot onto the bar as he's too short. Furthermore, he then blamed him for their goal despite being at the other end of the ground!! Kelly is a centimetre taller than Smithies, btw,
Apology to Joe Lumley on 19:20 - Jan 6 with 2965 views | johncharles | Watch Swansea’s late goal. The defence stand off to admire the shot. Same thing with Cardiff’s goal. Not playing the blame game but the goal keeper on both occasions was let down by his defence. Let’s not turn on each other. Nice one Snipper

Yeah Kelly's save yesterday was worth £150m. In another fantasy Lumley's assist to BOS allowed him to score that goal which has given him a confidence boost that will eventually see him score more goal for QPR and sold for £20m rather than released on a free.

Fair comment, just putting it out there. Regards BOS, I'd say Birmingham was his confidence boost but a good point. Would I expect him to continue this form, yes he's got all the right attributes, just lacked game nous. Could I say the same for Lumley?
Apology to Joe Lumley on 10:49 - Jan 7 with 2488 views | TacticalR | The thing I have been wondering about Lumley is whether he really is as bad as he's looked recently or whether he has just got the yips. He seemed to be ok until that kick in the face at Aston Villa last season. In the Cardiff game he looked pretty good for most of the game, particularly on crosses. @Snipper 'There is no hiding place playing in goal, so any mistake is magnified compared to an outfield player making a mistake.' True. In the Cardiff game Eze missed two open goals, but had a chance to make amends and score a goal. The other thing is that with Warburton's style of play (i.e. passing it around at the back) he is more involved in the game than previous keepers, which means more room for error (like the one at home to Luton). He does seem a bit static at times, but perhaps this is something we just have to live with (this season at least).

Fair dos's. You could say the same for Lumley, he's inconsistent anyone can see and he's far from the finished article. He certainly has some of the attributes of a good goalkeeper but perhaps not all of them. Concentration seems to be an issue but that can be learnt. I just think that we need to be even handed with him, he's made mistakes but he's made good saves too. He perhaps needs the rest or some competition but we shouldn't throw the baby out with the bath water. Somebody on here said that once he's dropped he should never play for us again which is too extreme for my liking and encourages me (and maybe others) to defend him.

Not quite sure where this sudden love-in for Lumley is coming from. Yes he’s a nice guy, yes he cares, yes I (and most) would like to see a product of our academy succeed. But truthfully and objectively, he isn’t good enough for this level. As for making some good saves, he’s a goalkeeper, he’s supposed to make some saves. I’d like to see Kelly given a fair run in the team now.

I don't see how smug wallowing in his poor form and the dismissal of his defenders helps anyone at all. Weird amnesia about his prior form to us. He was clearly good enough for this level then. This isn't a Ali Dia situation, this is a good player with the gyps. "Lumley has seven clean sheets from 11 league starts, and QPR have shot from 19th to 10th since he came into the team. He says without his time on loan with Bristol Rovers in 2017 and with Blackpool last season in League One - where he turned heads with eight clean sheets from 18 - he “wouldn’t be where [I am] now”. "His humility runs in stark contrast to his commanding presence on the pitch. He won the Supporters’ Player of the Month for October, during a run that has seen the club collect the most points over the last five games than any other team in the Championship, with 13" https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2018/11/02/joe-lumley-seizing-qpr-chance-wa [Post edited 7 Jan 2020 21:20]

Apology to Joe Lumley on 09:23 - Jan 8 with 2013 views | NW5Hoop | I don't shout at players in the ground or rant at them on social media, and rarely criticise them much here. But Lumley's stats at the start of last season were a fluke, and the kick in the face at the Villa game changed nothing. Even when he was keeping clean sheets for us, he was terribly uncertain at crosses and his handling of the ball was iffy. He had a fortunate period where, genuinely, none of his mistakes got punished, and so he looked like a world beater. This season all of his mistakes are getting punished and he looks disastrous. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Up to that Villa game Lumley had been very good but as you have said he had also been a 'lucky keeper' in so far as his errors went unpunished and therefore unnoticed. His luck changed that day and his nerves have if anything worsened. Now a very large and noticeable percentage of his mistakes are costing us goals and points. We shouldn't write him off but he has been given several chances by the manager and Kelly had already taken his place before getting injured. Kelly also has a very good reputation from his previous clubs, has been an unused substitute in a full international, hasn't made any major errors for us and should be given his chance to make himself first choice.
