In Iceland (not sure about Finland) they still use the system where the son has his fathers first name with 'sson' added at the end for his surname. So Sven Andersson has a son and his first name Peter and his full name would be Peter Svensson and Svens father would have been Ander.
Most of Scandinavia used this system but its been phased out, we have links with Scandinavia and my surname ends in 'son' but don't think it came from there |  | | |

Finland seems to end in either a or en male or female.
I noticed this as I like so many Finnish bands.
Holopainen, Vuorinen, Nevalainen, Hietala, Salomaa, Säisä, Karvonen, Häkkänen etc. |  |
