What are we going to do for a defence on Saturday 18:13 - Aug 24 with 5441 viewsfrancisbowles

Perch, Lynch and Hall injured, Caulker, Furlong, Robinson and Baptiste all have confidence shot to pieces after Tuesday and Bidwell was very poor when we tried him at cb before. Don't know what Goss is up to these days?

So it's Ned and? and ?

He was poor but we don't really have anyone else unless we stick a kid in or play a flat back four. Caulker wasn't helped by having the two full backs high up the pitch leaving him with no protection out wide and very little in front of him. That's no excuse for some of the things he did but for a man who is clearly fragile small things like that have a big impact on him.

I think Caulker would have looked crap if we were playing catenaccio with Maldini and Baresi either side of him.

Give the youth a chance. What is the point of a U23 side, if not to develop players for the First Team squad? It worked with Manning, why not with Paul or Phillips?

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

big ask to throw them in for a debut away at Cardiff. I've not seen much of either of them to know if they are good enough. I'm sure if they are ready then Holloway will give them a chance

Well they have both started for the u23s this afternoon.

As for Caulker, he did play well in the first round, with Ned alongside him, albeit against Northampton. So I think he will at least be on the bench.

Ned, Baptise and Caulker can all play if we go with a back 3 with Bidwell and Pavel as wing backs.

One bad game shouldn't mean we just write people off

Come on Dave, we write some people off before they have even played a game .

I take your point, though.

The thing that needs to be acknowledged is that, as poor as the defence were against Bentford, the centre back partnership comprised of one bloke with recent injury troubles, who has just signed for the club and played one game prior to that; and another bloke who has physical and mental wellbeing issues, and also played one first team game in 10 months.
That's it - two footballers with basically zero game time between them, and NEVER having lined up next to each other before.

Weren't we in for Elphwick in January???

Now Big John The Racist and Big Chris The Money are at Villa I think he'll move on so long term I think that's great
Such a shame we have to pay Perch his wages and Caulker likewise

Feeling we may scrape a draw tomorrow

It's the anathestic

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal
