I frequent the pubs in the area, like the Wheatsheaf, regularly.

Damn it I'll have to move now the place is going downhill so fast....

I used to go there more regularly in the past, but a friend recently moved away from the area, so you'll be fine.

Not that you've ever met me, but it's nice to know purely because we have different political opinions mean you wouldn't want to. Do you take the same approach with everyone who has a different view to you?

Anyway, more importantly, it doesn't read well this morning, but an amazing response by the police and health services. 8 minutes is impressive, a somewhat reassuring. Sounds like off duty officers were helping too.

I'm afraid my views on what I think should happen would get me shouted down on here, but I do praise the rapid response to these situations by our emergency services.

This may be part of a recent statistical blip, or it may be that terrorist attacks, high or low tech, are becoming more frequent.

We, as relatively free citizens in liberal democracies, must be more diligent against unhinged ideological bastards who are trying to destroy our way of life and the freedoms we enjoy.

F*ck 'em. Don't let the c*nts win.

Shocking stuff, I meet the wife around there quite regularly these days. I continue to give her my usual 'we're unlikely to be a part of an actual incident' line but I think it's wearing a bit thin with her. Terrible stuff for anyone involved.

I do wonder about this 8 minutes response time that's being lauded. Doesn't sound that amazing to me - not worth shouting about anyway.

Understand your first time point. But 8 mins from the first 999 call to having shot dead all perpetrators seems quick to me. Busy area, they have to get there, work out what's going and then take out 3 people. It also sounds like unarmed off duty officers (in the pub) tried to tackle them first. One sounds like he has serious injuries as a result. Just hope the number of dead doesn't rise today and this week.

8 minutes from first action to three dead terrorists. That's pretty good. I've had paintball sessions that have lasted way longer than that.

How about the fella from The Spectator who was in thick thick of it with his missus and turns out his missus was also on a bus in Russell Square 7 July attacks. You gotta start thinking third time won't be so lucky

The OB seem to have done fantastically well here and great praise to them. Diverting resources to specialist areas seems to have paid off or maybe it was lucky that ARV's got there fast.
In comparison to Bataclan they seem to have been bang on (no criticism of the French intended there).

When we play Millwall a few pre match in the Barrow Boy and Banker will feel a bit poignant if I go
RIP to those innocents killed, get well soon to the injured and rot in hell to the protagonists

Yeah I'm not really saying it's slow but....I don't know really - I suppose given the current resources and how things are set up it was good but it would have felt like a lifetime if you'd been in any way involved.

That`s the problem we face nowadays RangersDave, being scared to say what we really feel by those who would label those of differing opinions as racist or bigots to squash and quell our thoughts and opinions to fit their PC narrative. I merely pointed out that they where Muslim scum earn`t me a few down arrows, i suppose the days of calling a spade a spade are behind us.

Police were on the scene in two minutes, the terrorists were dead six minutes later - remember that the first responders were not armed, and they would have immediately had to call in the ARV/Trojan responders, who obviously were, and then immediately neutralized the threat. short of arming the entire Met (not specifically advocating this one way or another...) not sure how much quicker it could have been...

Shame you weren't Steve. You could have stuck a blue rosette on a body.

Another dig at someone Danny boy that doesn't fit your ideological mantra. Just as you accused me of being an apartheid sympathiser on the Diane Abbott thread. Steve made a point in jest, yet a serious point. Corbyn thinks that we should negotiate with these people. Get it in your Fûcking head that they do now wish to negotiate, western foreign policy is low down in their reasons to wage terror, up the top is to destroy all non-believers, including a few billion Muslims in this world that don't subscribe to their own perverted version of Islam. That means that in their eyes pretty much the whole of society, be it western, eastern, Christian, Sikh, Hindu, bhuddism, conventional Islam is at risk. Now I don't agree on a lot of things politically with Brighton, and when I read his posts from last night I suspected (possibly correctly), that he had had a few too many sangrias, but this morning his own feelings remain the same. The world has never faced such a crisis as this, Al-Qaeda were kids play compared to Daesh andto think that any politician could solve their issues with dialogue is deluded to the extreme. One day these cûnts will get hold of some kind of nuclear material, but don't worry words will solve it.

Without wanting to prompt a huge thread on the subject maybe it is time to arm the Met?

I grew up with armed police and soldiers on the street so it's not such a stretch for me, but I know there are a readily available list of pros and cons.

My "ideological mantra"? FFS, what are you on about this time, Andy McNab?

Trying to score party political points off the back of an obscenity like last night is out of order.

It would be out of order whoever did it and whichever party they were doing it in support of.

Your opinions on apartheid make me f-king sick, and pretty much everything else you say bores me.

And I'm not having a conversation with you about terrorism, because you don't have any real insight to offer, and you can't write in legible paragraphs.

That's your lot. Have a nice Sunday.

I'm glad it bores you and I'd be happy to bore you to your face sunshine. Whether you like it or not terrorism is also a political issue, always has been always will be. And political points will be made by both sides of the political divide. Interesting that my views on apartheid make you feel sick, I abhord it then and I abhor it now. As I abhor any racism including anti-semitism, which I would say isn't too much of an issue for the current Labour leadership, but I won't say that as I don't want to offend you as it would be making a political point, given your sensitive nature. Now if you wish to properly slander me rather than hide behind a keyboard with a false name on a football forum then be my guest and I will take you to the cleaners. And do me a favour. Just press that little button on the screen so that you cannot see my posts.

"western foreign policy is low down in their reasons to wage terror, up the top is to destroy all non-believers,"

If it is that low down why are we continually hit where as far as I am aware Finland, Lichtenstien, Albania, Montenegro, Italy, Greece are not being targeted in the same way

All almost certainly easier targets, Genuine question

I am not saying foreign policy is the be all and end all but to me it seems clear that it certainly figures strongly in the choice of IS targeting

Don't think that police numbers would make that much difference. We have always prided ousrselves that our police walk the streets unarmed with nothing more than a whistle, truncheon and funny shaped hat. In fact a recent survey of Met Police officers found that the majority would rather stay unarmed and the main reason for this is because of the fear of prosecution in the event that they shoot aomeone! I have found this on wiki that provides information on the numbers of police officers per population with a median of 300 per 100,000. In 2013 we were 227 well below world average, France and Germany well above us,and their police are all armed and yet with greater numbers and with guns both these countries have failed to stop acts of terrorism in recent years. I fear that you extra police will not solve the problems, much higher numbers in the intelligence services I suspect will and the sad thing is that it sounds like a blueprint for the former East Germany.
