Seems we are playing PSV in Driel which according to the maps, thats basically in Arnhem. Might just make it for that one. Is Arnhem a good night out? Apparently its twinned with Croydon and Coventry so that doesn't mean I'll hold out much hope!

We'll be able to test the local hospitality again after 70 years.

Definitely, and the JFH connection makes me more confident they'll turn up this year.

I'd like to visit Arnhem and the WW2 museum at Overloon ( https://www.oorlogsmuseum.nl/en/home/) as my dad was in the Market Garden campaign until about Eindhoven where his tank was 'brewed up'. Maybe this is the year.

When Michael Caine gets ambushed, the bloke in the turret with him was the bloke he was playing and he said it was just like it was in 1944.

It was pretty grim, horrible swampy exposed land with no way off the roads and solid Panther-backed defenses. My father's tank was hit, so he got in another and that was hit. That was the end of his war.

40 years later my parents moved to Herefordshire and everyone in the local British Legion had been infantrymen riding on those very same tanks.

'Dutch friendlies' sounds like it might be a euphemism, as in: 'I went back to hers and she gave me the old Dutch Friendlies'.

'What do we want? We don't know! When do we want it? Now!'

In 2002 at the time of the World Cup I went over to Arnhem to do a software installation at a large Dutch energy company.

I think it was the second day I was working there and at the risk of appearing unprofessional I asked the guys I was working with if we could start a bit later so that I could watch one of the matches, which were being shown in the early morning (it might have been the England-Brazil game).

One of the guys said, no problem, come round to my house in the morning and we will watch it together! He had a very nice modern suburban house in Arnhem.

Very clued up about the important things are the Dutch.

Arnhem is pretty small, just a few main shopping streets as far I can recall.
