I watched the last episode of line of duty and thought that was good. Undercover has finally grabbed by attention. I quite like some of the investigative programmes Stacey Dooley does. However I can't wait for the next series of people just do nothing.
Just watched the first two episodes of 'McMafia' on BBC.
Written by former BBC political correspondent Misha Glenny, it's a decent, intelligent storyline building nicely.
Kind of 'Sopranos' meets 'Homeland' perhaps, with a bit of Godfather II thrown in (in particular similarities with Michael Corleone's initial reluctance to get involved in the family 'business').
It's an 8-parter in total.
9/10 for me :)
Doing this one too, trying to work out if the lead is Uber cool or simply cannot act for toffee! After 3 episodes I'm leaning towards the latter ðŸ˜
Will stick with it as it's on series link now and at an hour a week I don't need to invest too much time.
If anyone has Amazon Prime, Bosch is a pretty good detective programme set in LA. 3 series with each having an underlying case but with ongoing politics etc running through all 3.
Few regulars from HBO series in main roles including a couple from The Wire etc.
James Norton was terrific as psycho Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, but in McMafia he looks way out of his depth against some very classy acting by the various "unknown" Russian actors.
Looks a perfect for the Bond role. Elegant clothes horse come action hero, no acting required.
Me too. I am really enjoying the settings and characters etc. Fantastic. However, what really annoys me is I struggle to hear what is being said. This is particularly noticeable in the bar scenes where the background noise seems too loud. I could do with subtitles to be honest.

The Wire is difficult enough, but I was watching the Donald Glover series Atlanta the other day (it hasn't grabbed me yet) and I swear I went three scenes, a full five minutes, and I didn't understand a single word of what they were saying!
I remember years ago complaining to a Gen Y dickhead about the diction on South Park and he said it was a generation thing (ie, f*ck you, Grandad).
Maybe it is an inclusion/exclusion thing, designed to make a demographic claim a program as their own.
Meantime, my demographic is the one that watches programs with subtitles.

Believe it has a lot to do with thin TV's. My mum has got one of those big old box TV's that needed 4 blokes to lift it but the sound seems a lot better.
Also, despite paying extortionate money for Sky TV, when the wind got up recently and naturally the sky box gave up, switching back to Freeview the sound was infinitely better. Also, the freeview picture is brighter and better than Sky HD !

Coming to the end of GLOW (Gorgeous Women of Wrestling), based on the true-ish story. Loses it's interest a bit after the first few episodes but has picked up in the last 3rd and overall it's been decent enough and some really funny moments. The guy that plays the director is brilliant and Alison Brie is tasty... Helps if you have a liking of big hair, spandex and 80's references

I know what you mean - he's pretty wooden.
Mind you, perhaps that's because his character is in a perpetual state of shock at what's going on around him and the kind of world he's becoming part of - so that he can create a clear contrast in the kind of character he might become an episode or two down the line...
Three episodes in and all the characters are established, time to kick on a little now.
Inside No 9 one of my all time favourite series, but then I love League of Gentleman and Psychoville so basically anything Shearsmith and Pemberton do will get me.
Enjoyed LoG and Psychoville without ever being totally in to them. But I'm totally obsessed with Inside No.9 at the moment, can't believe it passed me by originally. The 12 Days of Christine episode in S2 is the best thing I've seen for ages.

The one set at the Oxbridge University with the crosswords was my favourite, as was the first ever episode "sardines". Some of them are a bit hit and miss I have found but well worth a watch.
Anyone seen Channel Zero? Just picked it up and gonna watch it next week.
Also watching Better Call Saul. Unfortunately for me it is too slow (half way through series 2).

Yeah that 12 days of Christine is exceptional, as is the crossword one and 'a quiet night in', the silent episode which I think is from the 1st season.

I think I might have mentioned earlier in the thread that Better Call Saul picks up the pace enormously in Series 3. It's like the network told them Series 4 & 5 had been scrapped and that they should bring the plot development forward. Worth sticking with.

Definitely worth sticking with if you have seen Breaking Bad as it backfills the stories of a number of the key characters.

Juat watched the crosswords episode this evening. Very, very clever. This program really rewards second viewings, so much detail in the way the thing's constructed. And dark af too, obviously
Apparently the crossword was set by Pemberton and actually published in the guardian prior to the broadcast
'Dexter' was recommended to me. Don't think I'd even heard of it before. but bought the first series on DVD on eBay for a couple of quid.
Watched the first episode last night - ended up watching 3 - it's absolutely bonkers!
If DiscoDroid was a forensic scientist specialising in blood-spatter patterns, while tracking down and doing away with the vilest serial murders himself, this would be him!

That's not a spoiler - the opening scene of the first episode has Dexter kidnapping and killing a paedophile who has abused and killed three children.
Dexter has a weird and complex history and is pretty emotionally damaged himself. Having watched 3 episodes, his history is still unravelling.
It's all pretty dark, but with humour too.
Glued to it last night - and Mrs A also got into it. After being a bit worried following the first 5 minutes, she's really enjoying it too.

Junior isaw #2 thought it ran out of steam in season 2, but I disagreed. John Lithgow is an especially decent villain in season 3.
I stuck with it through all eight seasons and enjoyed the examination of his bizarre personality and situation and the program's decidely twisted moral compass.

Dexter was very good and very original unfortunately after season 4 its as stale as one of Mrs P's sarnies going to give EL chapo a whirl this weekend
