Your local pub 19:46 - Jan 2 with 36678 views | BlackCrowe | Not necessarily your favourite but your local. Describe. Me? The Boaters Inn, Kingston. Good guest ales, great spot on the river. Excellent in Summer but lacks soul in Winter - lighting too bright, too much space given to non-existant diners. If I owned it, things would change.

Your local pub on 09:45 - Jan 5 by Dorse | Bloody hell - I should be seeing Radders tonight at the local Fathers' Support Group (aka Caged Tigers)! He's a proper Gent. His daughter babysits / guards my foul brood. PM me and I'll let him know you're still breathing! Tis truly a small world. The Crown was a bit of a dump at times - were you there during the Liz and Jonny, Yvonne (the horror, the horror) or the Georgie years? L and J went broke after sinking 7 figures into the house and The Fiddleford Arms, Yvonne disappeared from view (think she went back to Motcombe) and Georgie has her own livery business based in Bedchester. Still remember a brilliant evening when Georgie hooked up her Wii to the pub TV and everyone spent an evening bowling. Hilarious watching drunks (including me) taking run ups (!) and adopting the full on bowling pose. |
I'm not sure who was running it when I was there - c1996 -2000, though Liz and Jonny sounds familiar, but it was a bit on the dead side. I went for the odd pint with Rads down there but the girls flatly refused to go it was that bad - they'd insist on The Cricketers at Shroton. Steve is a proper gent until you put a rugby ball in his hand and then he turns into a right nasty bit of work, although not the biggest bloke he's as strong as an ox and could tackle a charging rhino! Thankfully we were both on the same side down there at North Dorset! His daughter and mine were born within a few months of each other and are still good friends and we all catch up at least once a year usually down here in Cornwall but sometimes over in France. Would have loved to have seen the pissed up Wii bowling!

Your local pub on 10:06 - Jan 6 by Mick_S | My old local on Harlington Road, Hillingdon, about to become a shisha lounge. About a two minute walk from The Turks Head which is now boarded up. |
Had one of my first pints in the then Turks head, the old man took me out when I was 14 to have a bender with when my mum left him I also heard that the Vine on the other side of the road is being knocked down as well
| And Bowles is onside, Swinburne has come rushing out of his goal , what can Bowles do here , onto the left foot no, on to the right foot
That’s there that’s two, and that’s Bowles

Your local pub on 19:14 - Jan 6 with 3166 views | kingshill | Loving this thread, brings back some fantastic memories. My old locals around Acton were the Goldsmiths, still an excellent pub with good food and still my regular pre-match drink. The Old Oak social club at the bottom of my road was great fun and could get lively, also the Castle in North Acton was a great pub in the 80's, a real mix of locals along with the odd celeb from the BBC rehearsal studios next door. Now full of the Carphone warehouse crowd & students. As for where I am now, The Brook House is the closest but wouldn't touch it with a bargepole. Scene of a mass brawl on Xmas Eve by all accounts. Middx arms in South Ruislip is OK, even though the Guvnor is Chelsea. Gets a good Rangers crowd in when we are on telly away and Ye Old Crowne in Hayes by the Beck Theatre is excellent with good beer and the best steaks around. [Post edited 6 Jan 2016 19:15]

Your local pub on 20:50 - Jan 6 with 3113 views | qprxtc | For the first thirty three years of my life I lived in the flats over the shopping precinct by Shepherds Bush Green. So 99% of my drinking was done in The Bush. The Mailcoach always loomed large in my family as its where my Dad and his brother used to drink (and The Duke of Edinburgh) so naturally I took up a residence there, mostly through Mad Irish Willy's tenure. It swung between nights of boredom and mayhem. Now a bus stop outside Westsoddingfiield. I don't half miss the place. Also drank in The Wellington once or twice and remember it for being taken over by Millwall in 1987. Had many great nights in The Bush Hotel, The Bushranger, The Goldhawk, Duke of Clarence, The Sun and The British Prince. All now gone. [Post edited 6 Jan 2016 20:53]

Founded in 1839 on the old mail route out of London (hence the name), the Mailcoach was rebuilt in 1932. It was an Irish pub which specialised in Sunday lunches and had live music on Saturday nights. Much used by workers from the nearby London Underground depot, it was decorated with signs and bric-a-brac from the railway. Its garden was once voted 'worst pub garden in England' but this may have had something to do with the main road (West Cross Route, originally the M41 motorway but now part of the A3220) thundering just behind it. When Chelsfield plc started to redevelop the White City area (north of Uxbridge Road), their plans made no allowance for this pub, and as a result it was closed and demolished in April 2003. https://www.flickr.com/photos/16156673@N00/3016491771 The White Horse pub garden is hardly any better. 5m squared with 3 pub benches to choose from, last time I looked. It's like a mini concrete jungle. [Post edited 6 Jan 2016 22:47]

Your local pub on 23:24 - Jan 6 with 2968 views | A40Bosh | Metallicas Hammersmith riverside post reminded me that come to think of it my local from age 17-24 was nowhere near Eastcote as I used to live in either The Old City Arms, The Blue Anchor, The Rutland, The Old Ship or The Black Lion for the entire weekend, normally visiting all of them on the same night. GOD I could drink back then!

Your local pub on 08:29 - Jan 7 with 2898 views | Metallica_Hoop | I loved the Mailcoach! The Blind fella who used to give his dog Ale in a bowl The Rutland was ruined 15 years ago when they took out all the old boats etc. The Blue Anchor I have to say although they moved the bar, it has really kept it's 90's ambience. Well done whom ever designed that refurb. I stayed late at The Ship one night and my mate Siobhan wanted to try the Dirtydancing raised above head think. I was drunk so agreed after several tried we managed it and when I put her back down one of her heels snapped. She had to spend the rest of the night walking around a packed pub on one heel. It still makes me smile now.

Brook House still going strong so I believe, bands at the weekend plus the sport keeps the crowd going. Same Guvnor as the Old Crown, but different types of pub . The Old Crown is the next pub up towards Hillingdon from the Grapes, which is now a Beefeater It's changed names a bit recently, was also Flynns & Flanagans for a while

Did it have the Shebeen out the back then Brian? Had a few good nights in there, they really used to pack em in. Went in there a few months back. 8pm on a Saturday evening and we were the only people in there, some sort of micro brewery now

No, there was a room out decked out to be a bar but it was clearly out of use for a while. I heard about the micro-brewery. The phrase makes me shiver.

I drive past there every day on my commute. They're working on the building at the moment but not clear yet what it's going to be next. There's also another pub boarded up further down the road, must have closed down about a week after The PoW!

Your local pub on 11:44 - Jan 7 with 2677 views | Tonto | the crown and horseshoes in enfield: should be an amazing pub - its an old building, right on the "new river" (not really a river, its more a diverted culvert but it has swans and ducks on it), a little bridge over the river to it, nice setting, beer garden... BUT Its bog standard stuff brewery decor inside and sells bog standard beer and below bog standard pub food. very disappointing...

Prince is to be a shisha lounge. The Turks has been boarded for a few month; there's a bit of fidgitment going on, but no real news. The Orange Peel and The Prince Albert by the hospital are also both gone, The Albert has been demolished and is a car park with no cars and The Peel is to become a hotel.
