I remain unconvinced by the board's principal reasons for giving him the job, i.e. someone who knows the 'Swansea Way', it's all a bit too insular and looking backwards in some respects. I'd rather we embraced new ideas and outside influences to keep us developing and bring a fresh approach.
Having said that, GM has done a good enough job since he got the gig, and he certainly has plenty in his favour. To me, a lot of football management is about luck, timing and circumstance, so let's hope that, in addition to the undoubted work ethic he has and the signed copy of Brendan's Dossier that he keeps on him at all times, that he has the gods smiling on him as well.
Counterfactual history has never been more in vogue on this forum than in the time after ML left, and I can see that continuing to hitherto undreamed of levels through the close season and into next season. I'd hope that people just accept that GM is the new gaffer, let go of the past and at least see what happens in terms of recruitment (staff and players) before predicting the end of the world and 'this wouldn't have happend if so and so was appointed' etc.
He wouldn't have been my choice, but he's the choice of those with the power, so fingers crossed and away we go. |  |
