Boss Paul Jewell says that there were concerns that midfielder Lee Martin might have suffered permanent damage to his sight when a stone caught him in the eye while playing golf last week. Fortunately the former Manchester United man seems set to make a full recovery from the injury.
Martin suffered the problem when golfing on a day off, a stone flicking up into his eye as he made a shot and causing bleeding behind it. An ambulance was called and he saw specialists at London’s Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Jewell says the injury isn't as serious as had been feared and the 25-year-old should be back in action soon: “For a couple of days and we were quite worried.
“Thankfully there is no permanent damage and he just needs a week’s rest to allow the bleeding behind the eye to clear.”
Meanwhile, Jewell has confirmed that the groin injury which forced defender Danny Collins out of the Wales squad yesterday is nothing too serious, just a niggle the on-loan Stoke man has been carrying for a while.
Summer signing Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has had an injection in the ankle he injured against Leeds with the problem still not entirely healed.
Jewell said: “He’s had an injection in it to see if that will settle it down because he’s been playing in a bit of discomfort. He’s had a scan and we’re waiting for the results.”
