Edit. Although quick Google search, and I can only find that it's named after the bridge (as one would have supposed).
Article I read fairly recently claimed it was named after the adjacent Tavern, having started life as Highgate. [Post edited 4 Aug 21:09]

Junior Iz and I got talking yo a young Indian mother (early 30s probably), with her seven year old son, at Swindon station this afternoon. They were on their way to a Hare Krishna festival in Reading (you see).
