| Forum Reply | Dozzell and Willock bench warmers now for the bottom two teams !!! at 00:00 5 Oct 2024
Both still faring better than Lyndon Dykes who it would appear will be third choice striker at third-tier Birmingham City. He started last week Saturday and was taken off at half-time when Birmingham were losing 2-1. They ended up winning 3-2. We're only three points better off than Cardiff and Pompey. In the case of Pompey, I won't be underestimating them. They may have got battered by Stoke, but prior to that, they picked up 4 draws out of 7 against some of the highest placed teams in the league, Luton excepted. An injury-time winner by Burnley prevented them getting a fifth draw. [Post edited 5 Oct 0:11]

Coventry were adrift on points because of their pitch being ruined by the rugby 7's in the Commonwealth games during that summer and therefore couldn't play at home for nearly two months. I'm afraid that our motley/scatter-brained assembled squad will never come remotely close to that excellent Coventry team of 22/23. I'll happily settle for fourth from bottom with this poorly assembled squad. |

It's a figment of your imagination. Patience, blue-sky thinking and the moneyball approach is all we need to survive. |

This. The much derided Osman Kakay is a better player than Santos. Miller is a good player and cruelly exposed Santos' defensive frailties without having to overexert himself. |

That's all well and good but I don't believe that there was a groundswell of fans wanting rid of the MC. Patience may be the watchword, but we need a couple of wins in our next four games, three of which are at home. Before we face some of the stronger/strongest teams in this league, starting with Burnley at the end of this month. The run of games in November, on current level of performance, look very daunting. None of the next four games will be easy either, but all of the sides are currently just below or a few points ahead of us. I wouldn't underestimate Pompey, who must have had the hardest run of games to date. Chair cannot be expected to turn this around on his own. I'm amazed at the rather limited criticism directed at Andersen, who in Chair's absence, should have been the one to take on the mantle as our indispensable creative player. Instead, we're pinning our hopes on Dembele, a player who has only played 6 games at this level. That's very unfair. |
| Forum Reply | Never a straight Red Card at 11:30 30 Sep 2024
Try to defend the indefensible but the entire blame is solely on Varane. It was an awful tackle. His poor control of the ball was the root cause, had he engaged his brain he should have then withdrawn as opposed to recklessly dive in and cost us any chance of getting anything out of that game. Further, the reaction of Cook after Varane's lunge was telling, as he was clearly of the view that a red card would ensue. Doubtless if the roles were reversed, you would still maintain that the same challenge on one of our players is worthy of just a yellow card. [Post edited 30 Sep 11:45]

Agreed, I fear that line-up is short in many facets. I don't see us having much possession or using the little we may have effectively. Please prove me wrong, Rangers |

He achieved that with Leyton Orient when they were in division 2. Just cutting in at this level, for the most part, onto his right foot will not work as the defenders are way too savvy. He doesn't manipulate the ball in the way Chair does to wrongfoot defenders. I like him as a squad player but his best position is wide on the right. |

Handbrake off with Chair in the side then you may be right. it takes bravery and confidence to play in that manner. Chair has always showed for the ball by coming deeper to take passes from the centre-halves, thus providing another realistic passing option alongside it going through central midfield. Hayden also showed for the ball when he joined on loan last season, even when he was dispossessed, he never hid. To a lesser extent, Willock also showed too. Get Chair back as he is the fulcrum of this team and we will be better both as a threat in the final third and his coming deeper to link up play. I don't want him to play in a deeper lying role, but he has the capacity to do it as he proved on occasions when Warbs was manager I seem to recall. [Post edited 23 Sep 12:54]

Still amazed that the carnage that preceded the goal being scored was allowed to run its course. That would not have been the case in the sanitised premier league even if VAR weren't in place. |

Surely that applies equally to J Dunne. Not quite getting this seemingly different narrative when both players are in the same contractual situation. Unless you know otherwise. |

No irreverence/disrespect shown at all. On the contrary, it just shows how difficult it is for clubs of our size to be expected to produce a decent number of players at U-18 level, year on year, who will develop into championship players of the future at the very least. Of course there are exceptions, Millwall's U-18 from last season being very successful in reaching the FA youth semi-finals. However for many reasons, some outside of the control of the club, it cannot be sustained. I'm not sure if it's the correct route for a club of our size to continue pursuing. |

Must still be the fault of Ferdinand and all his accomplices |

So Lyndon might remain third choice at his new club, should that bid for Stansfield be with any foundation. [Post edited 30 Aug 9:40]

He isn't. He actually makes saves from shots when he is at full stretch, quick reactions, gets down low very quickly, with strong hands to parry the ball away. First-half save from Adebayo being a case in point. For mine, including Coventry last season, that's the third game where he has performed to a very high standard. He's a definite talent with a proper goalkeeper's presence. [Post edited 28 Aug 13:25]

| Forum Reply | Dykes sold apparently at 15:21 27 Aug 2024
Pretty damning on the club that after over 4 years at the club, we can't breakeven on our £2 million outlay for Dykes. A striker who was first-choice for nearly all of his time at the club. At about the same time we signed Dykes, Coventry signed Gyokeres for less than £1 million and Hamer for £1 million. Those two have yielded circa £35 million for Coventry, with a further profit percentage when Gyokeres is eventually sold by Sporting Lisbon. If Dykes is sold, I wish him well. We gave Dykes over 4 years to prove his worth, so it's only right that we don't condemn Celar and Frey as being useless already. [Post edited 27 Aug 15:25]

Other than being okay with his feet when in possession, Nardi isn't an upgrade. Like you, I was of the view that his positioning for a couple of the goals conceded against West Brom was poor, could also be said of the Hamer strike for Sheffield United's first goal. Defensively, we have restricted sides to very few shots on target in the league games, so he hasn't been involved to any great extent, yet we've conceded 6 goals. The few shots that he has saved have been struck straight at him from memory. |

No way has Santos played for Sporting's first team last season. He wouldn't be at QPR if that were the case, as they won the league with a certain V Gyokeres in that team. I've said elsewhere that he's not good enough, based on his bizarre half-hour performance against third-tier Cambridge, and it seems that may have been the decision reached at the club too. He hasn't been brought on in the last two games, so he should be expected to either start tonight or come on in the second-half, as Dunne cannot be expected to play the entire game tonight. If not, then clearly he's no longer in the MC's consideration. [Post edited 27 Aug 13:35]
