Brighton Game...
at 17:26 31 Jul 2024

I've just received another set of tickets for the lower loft, after buying the tickets for my season ticket places in the upper.
Have they decided to close the upper loft due to lack of demand, does anyone know??

UK Beer. Shift to Lower ABV% .
at 21:59 29 Jul 2024

Both Fullers and Meantime now owned by Asahi....
Most of the big brewers have swept up what we considered to be the 'independent' craft brewers - Brands like Brixton and Beavertown owned by Heineken, whilst Carlsberg has taken the Marston brands...
Carlsberg has just lost the licence to sell San Miguel to AB Inbev/Budweiser too - which is a massive deal...

It's the tax duty costs - lower ABV means less tax.
Absolutely makes a mockery of the fact that 0.0/0.5 beers are around the same price though.

Did Southgate's tactics cost England?
at 20:40 15 Jul 2024

Is this moment comparable to our own keep Warburton/Lose Warburton moment?
Obviously different standards and style etc, but there were many arguing that the grass was greener, also lots that shouted for him to stay....
is this the turning point on the England situation?
Personally, I can't ever see someone like Klopp taking the role, and after the dignity and respect factor that Southgate has nurtured, would we accept a manager from beyond our shores again? It's an attractive role - 5m salary, semi full time.... but it's definitely a poison chalice to some degree.
Howe would be a decent shout - but why would he leave Newcastle in their current position - unless he gets pushed very early in the season of course.
FWIW, I've enjoyed watching England under Southgate, he's obviously not a tactical genius, but it feels like he's grown into the role and continues to grow into the role...
Difficult one - definitely as per the Warburton situation....

As most have alluded to in this thread, he was a great player for us before his injury.
Since then - especially under Ainsworth (who actually refused to play him) he has shown very little interest and has had fits and spurts... There's definitely a player in there, but he seems to have a lack of motivation and plays when it suits him, rather than the team. Never tracks back but has that occasional moment of excellence. I've enjoyed watching him in parts, but to be honest, like most on here, I was not that upset he has not re-joined.
I'd have probably been more upset under a different manager, but Cifuentes really has something special going on now...

Joey Barton

I make you right. He could have easily remained managing in League 1 for a long time - plenty of teams would have taken him and been happy to plod along with his 'I've played for Citeh and got an England cap' rhetoric.
His divisive opinions for clicks and particularly doubling down on women's football has effectively made him unemployable in football again.
I'm no fan of Barton, but its difficult to see where he goes from here after not only closing the door on his football career but also embarrassing himself and apologising for his social media outbursts - even his fan boys seems to be turning on him.

Definitely not denying that the UK housing demand is a thing - I think it presents itself more in the lack of affordable housing though, rather than the creation of luxury flats for private rental.
I think my comment of kids abuse was more aimed at another post/poster, apologies...

I could write a 2m word essay on the demise of local pubs, as it is my business and has been for a very long time. mainly a combination of most factors but the key catalyst for me was supermarkets price incentivising consumers to do their weekly shop was a defining point. take away the ability to sell alcohol in supermarkets and there would be a seismic change IMHO. Taxation plays a massive role, and the legislation that restricted breweries having large amounts of licensed houses played a major factor - most chains have not gone from being brewers to property developers and companies.. But ultimately, there is no denying that capitalism plays the biggest part. Far more money in selling the land that pubs sit on rather than having a pub that serves the community. Supermarkets exercising their ability to make large profits has the knock on effect at the expense of hospitality. That's aggressive capitalism IMO.
Also, the idea that kids being abused is exclusive to immigrant and Asian grooming gangs is ridiculous. It's been going on for many decades -again, a fact I know about first hand. 89% of child sex abuse prosecuted cases in the UK are white men.
