Did'nt realise Wolfie Smith was a spokesman for H&F Council. That statement is beyond embarrassing, obviously unaware of our FFP fine! Seeing as they played the foreign overseas owner stereo-type card, surprised they did'nt go full Emily Thornberry and mention loss of local food-banks. H&F Council are notoriously difficult to deal with and that's when they do manage to get their arses into work!

Terrible statement by LH&F almost childish point scoring. No meaningful dialogue between both parties. The last thing I remember was the residents survey on the proposed ground at LCS which seemed relatively positive response. 10 years to move out of LR may be an optimistic timescale. Not sure where the club goes from here findingreal estate within 2 miles might be difficult.

I assume the Fulham and Chelsea owners don't count as overseas then. One glaring error is that we didn't buy the Warren Farm Training ground so that's complete nonsense

Linford Christie Stadium. on 13:15 - Oct 28 by Northernr | Strange old statement that. As Lee Hoos pointed out in my interview with him, why do they keep going out of their way to mention that the owners are foreign? Why does that make a difference? Why do they admit that they bent over backwards to help Fulham and Chelsea (who also have rich foreign owners) but will only do so for QPR if we pursue a fan ownership model? Have other companies that have done big developments in this borough, like Westfield, been told by the council they have to change their ownership structure to get it through planning? I get the bit about not gifting a piece of public land to a private business, but if they got their heads together it could be a win win on that site where they get a new athletics facility they don't have to pay for or upkeep, and we get a new stadium, instead of what's there now which is a crumbling mess they can't afford. Strange statement for me. There seems to be some lingering suspicion somewhere along the line that our owners are looking to get a free stadium there, and then cash in on the land of the current one. If you think about that whole south side of SAR is an amazing development opportunity with the army barracks, the football pitches, the stadium, and a terrible pub all realtively easy to clear. Is this what the council is concerned about?

"we cannot gift hundreds of millions of pounds worth of public land to QPR" "Land with facilities on it which we can't afford to maintain and we certainly don't have enough money to develop into a more modern facility ourselves" the deluded spokesperson went on to say. Previously LBHF seemed to want QPR to agree to renting a stadium there which they won't own and will have no say in how it's built, which seems totally stupid. It's quite a quick response too, like you say it's strange how they mention nationality a lot, wtf does that have to do with it. If they were to grant QPR a long lease they would have cut their expenses, moved a problem on, could demand some facilities for the public as part of the planning application and the cost would all be on QPR. Fan ownership would be great but so long as the lease of the site is to QPR whatever they build there would be owned by the club for the duration of the lease.

Linford Christie Stadium. on 13:40 - Oct 28 with 3056 views | MedwayR | Bizarre statement. Are they suggesting the club put forward plans for LC Stadium despite not owning the site? Isn't it a H&F project? What is the council's position following their consultation from approx. 2 years ago? Why do they think that QPR's funding of the new training ground is any of their business? Also, why do they think fan-based ownership is the solution to any of their concerns? If the council is serious about developing the LC site perhaps they need to engage with potential stakeholders and progress the project rather than let the site deteriorate at taxpayers expense, or have they got other motives and don't want QPR involved? All very strange.

That statement needs an immediate response from the club - mind-blowingly stupid from H&F . The club should call them out on what planning deals were done with developers around White City. One would imagine they bend over backwards for those investments. Demolishing most of SAR might be a concern for H&F but they can always refuse planning permission. Perhaps they have given up to another developer - just a thought. H&F are playing politics here, but to what end? Something is not stacking up - call in the lawyers and have it out. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

What about creating a bit of space for them at our training ground in Heston, or would that be too far? Or they could approach the council about LC stadium. [Post edited 28 Oct 2021 13:49]

hard to approach them when they have said they are doing a public consultation on the site and will announce what they plan to do with it which is what the club are waiting for
Linford Christie Stadium. on 14:12 - Oct 28 with 2877 views | MedwayR | Perhaps we just need to be more forward thinking. Maybe we got a taste of the future with covid. Do we even need fans in the stadium? How about we use the training ground to host matches, sell match passes (QPR+) to watch the game on tv and set up a screen around the perimeter to show fans watching at home whilst playing crowd music over speakers. We could even host fans at a cinema screening to make extra cash. Sell Loftus Road and pocket the cash. TV money covers the cost of the squad and day-to-day running of the club. It's the future.

Linford Christie Stadium. on 12:57 - Oct 28 by danehoop | Not sure if its greenbelt, but since HS2 came along its not so clear, but maybe a look at the area next to West Ruislip station where Ruislip golf course was/is (sorry not sure what is happening there now). HS2 has changed things a lot in that area and a large part of it is currently being used for the line itself - but after that is done it might work well as a ground. Close to Central Line, Chiltern Lines, Met and Piccadilly lines. Hillingdon would probably jump at the chance if they get a chance to make cash out an area that won't be popular for housing because of the line - an issue that a stadium wouldn't really be bothered by. |
You might be onto something here, Hillingdon would probably jump at the chance to up their profile and they may well have spare land for re-development alongside all the HS2 stuff. Thought Uxbridge was mentioned a few years back as a possibility.

Linford Christie Stadium. on 12:56 - Oct 28 by switchingcode | Brentford’s new stadium is built on around 22000 square metres and holds 17500 Loftus road is just over 18000 square metres so the option of building a 25000 + stadium on the site is not there.Would have thought LC site would be perfect and the sale of LR would go a long way towards the build costs. |
I'm not sure it's quite so simple as that. For one thing, BFC's 22,000 sq metres is severely compromised by the triangular footprint of the site (see eg the lowered stands on the SE and SW sides of the ground). Also, it would have been possible to accommodate 20k seats at BFC, until the accountants calculated that including extra Premium/Corporate places at the expense of 2,750 regular seats would generate increased revenues overall, even with the reduced capacity. So it may be that the KPS could be re-built to hold 20k fans (just), but the owners have decided against on one or more of four grounds (no pun intended): 1. The need to re-build upwards is severely compromised by neighbouring properties' Rights of Ancient Lights etc? 2. Even if you could get round the above, the cost per seat of a complete rebuild of the old stadium would be so high that it would take decades to get it back, esp if the ground had to be part-closed during the process or (worse) the club had to move out for a period. And even then, it would be heavily dependent on regular PL football to fill it at premium prices; 3. Faced with the above, the competing allure of eg 40k at Car Giant or 30k at the LCS, turned the owners' heads elsewhere, such that they ignored the drawbacks involved with sites like those? 4. Maybe they've finally figured that the cost of any of the above is more than they're willing to bear and are just hoping that they can get the club into the PL and keep them there for more than a season or two, then sell up to some rich Arab sheikh or Russian oligarch who has the money to throw at providing a PL-quality stadium for a PL club, whether in W12 or elsewhere? Either way it is, perhaps, pertinent that BFC's owner acknowledges that our new stadium is not sustainable with Championship football in the long-term. Rather it needs regular (though not necessarily continuous?) PL football to make the numbers add up. And for that to be achieved, the club needs to be consistently better managed than comparably-sized or bigger clubs.

Linford Christie Stadium. on 08:52 - Oct 28 by bosh67 | I've always said that with the right planning and architects that Loftus Road could be completely redesigned to hold about 23000 which is catchment wise all we are ever going to get. It is a 10 minute walk from trains and the club would do better to come to some arrangement in the area to gain car park lease arrangements somewhere in Shepherd's Bush or north of the ground somewhere. The bottom line is with rail sating in the lower sections, a total rebuild with boxes etc in a high tech roof and the club actually leasing or owning car parks in the area, which would turn a profit, we would be better off staying where we are. |
Agree, great post. The highway on South Africa Road is unnecessarily wide (and just encourages speeding in a residential area) and as part of traffic calming this section of road could be narrowed and the footpath re-aligned to give us an extra strip of land. This would enable a new 'corporate / commercial space' to be bolted on to the existing South Africa Road at 1st & 2nd (& 3rd) Floor Levels, cantilevering over the existing (and widened if H&F see sense) footpath. If Corporate Boxes / Lounges could be accommodated at the highest level, this would allow for the Lower Tier to be re-introduced to South Africa as was pre-80's, maybe even with Rail Seating. This would also hugely improve facilities in the South Africa Road stand with more space for eating + drinking on match-days and non-match-day external hire. £ 10m would go a long way on a project of this scale, there would be limited disruption to existing match-day attendances, and size-wise, would give us the 23k capacity as mentioned above.

What about the other three stands where you can hardly sit-down? I sense the decision has been made to bin LR and relocate. Yes, that could take 5-10yrs but if the right site appears a new stadium could be realised within 5 yrs.

The comment about our owners being from overseas is indeed baffling. If they are that worried (irrespective of the origins of the clubs owners) could there be something in place that prevents the land sold on at a later date and a peppercorn rent is in place? In effect, something to actually protect the club too≥

Lower Loft & Lower School End could go to Rail Seating which might improve leg-room. Upper Loft & School End & Ellerslie could maybe have a seating upgrade as there must be a more ergonomic / non-shin irritant seat-back launched in the stadium seating market since ours were installed maybe 30+ years ago? Reuben mentioned at Bond launch that the club would be at Loftus Road for the foreseeable future, £10m is not a huge investment to upgrade Loftus Road to a level acceptable to the current match-day fans and the likely 5k extra support that returns with a winning team.
