He's a goalscorer, he may not be mobile or nimble, but I think he's a great 18 yard box player who always knows where he is compared to the goal. His goalscoring record over his career demonstrates that.
He showed glimpses of it last season, even though he clearly was mega unfit and not match ready.
He must have a fairly decent starts/goals ratio this year. I think its fitness and injuries that's perhaps his biggest issue.
But yeah you could see why he was on the pitch, we needed someone physical against the Blackburn defence. When Alfie came on he looked weak against them. Balls lumped up to him that he was never going to win.
Just listening to an interview he gave on a QPR podcast a couple of weeks ago. He said last season he was carrying an injury and couldn't get going. Once season finished he rested up for 10 days and spent rest of summer training every day to get as fit/sharp as possible - and show what he was about. Came across really well and would imagine would be a brilliant player to have in the dressing room, a total 100%er and brilliant role model for some of the younger ones.
If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. PG Wodehouse
Have to agree. It’s great to have a centre forward up there that the ball sticks to. Feel that we are a much better team with him in it. Early days and a long way off achieving the same heights, but a little Helguson esque in the Warnock team.
Nothing special, does OK, scores a few goals, better than Lyndon Dykes, best forward in the Club.......we need better but he is doing alright. Overall, a decent signing.

As has been mentioned, he has that knack/gift of getting into the right areas in the 18 yard box. His goal last night, Plymouth goal, Luton and Watford goals typify that. Against Watford, he's in the vicinity to score if Dunne wasn't there just before him.
His goals to games ratio fares very favourably with many others in the league. The much-vaunted, circa £10 million, Cannon only has three more goals than him and has featured in five more games.
If he's given decent game time going forward, he has more goals in him.

There isn't anyone in the squad that can't be improved upon. But he's the one who cannot be adequately deputised for if injured.
If he stays fit for the rest of the season, I think we'll get close to making the play offs.

Nope, got awarded to him. It takes a little bit of a deflection but his header is on target either way.
I like him too. He doesn't hide even when its not going well for him, seems to have a lot more skill (that first touch in the corner yesterday during the first half as an example) than you think and he has a lovely habit of scoring early on in games which set us up well. Marti is rotating the strikers really well at the moment and it seems to be paying off.
Big fam. And omg the difference between him this season and watching him move Bob Malcolm style on his debut when he came on up at Blackburn last year is immense.

What I like is that no team with him in it is getting bullied.
Yes, reminds me of the home game with Watford. All manner of 7 foot tall defenders trying to rile him up and bully him, but all ending up with egg on their faces. They should make a video of those tussles and show it any forward who wants to get picked for the first team.

Being better than Lyndon Dykes IS something special for QPR. Works hard and scores goals.
There was a moment in the first half, last night where close to the touchline, he controlled the ball while facing the opposite way, and flicked the ball passed two defenders. it was an absolute sublime piece of trickery, not sure he could ever do it again if he tried but even the commentator said it reminded him of a prime Dennis Bergkamp.

While Clive describes him as someone who shows up at a Dads match and looks out of shape ( I know your sense of humour) that play last night was just brilliant and got us a free in a dangerous spot. Of course we dicked around like most of our corners and got nothing out of it.Frey is a tough nut and must be a nightmare for those defenders who kick the crap out of Lloyd and Koli once he arrives on the scene. Anybody know about the unicorn celebration its brilliant while the place is going mental. Love the guy to be honest
Feels like a very QPR player, and I mean that in a good way. Unorthodox, turning circle of an Islet, varies between the touches of Bergkamp and the corner of a shed, and I'm not convinced parts of his body don't work independently. But, he's got that knack of being where he needs to be amongst the chaos of a penalty area, he works very hard and generally presses well, he does the doggies defensively and he absolutely loves the physical stuff. I also think he works great 'softening up' the defence in anticipation of a Kolli or Lloyd to come in and take advantage.
There was a point in the 2nd half when we're chasing the winning goal and he wins a corner hustling and bustling. He shrugs the defender, places the ball in the corner, then jogs into the far side of the penalty area purposely bashing into every Blackburn player on the way. One of the BBurn lads objected and Frey squared up and gave him the full Wealdstone raider treatment. If nothing else, I love to have a bit of that in our forwards.
The only part I hope he can continue to improve is his back to goal game... It's better than any of our other forwards, clearly, but the ball doesn't stick to him or get played off him with purpose as often as you'd like - but it's absolutely a coachable trait.
