Long time lurkers....dont be shy.
at 08:47 11 Sep 2024

Posted a couple of times but in all honesty the brilliance of Clive's write-ups and the quality of many of the posts means I'm happy to read and enjoy without being too active..

Living originally just to the south of London in the late 80's, I had a wealth of teams to choose from Palace, Dons, Fulham, I was taken along to the old Stamford Bridge by my Chelsea supporting mates a few times (horrid ground, vile atmosphere) but landed on QPR and Loftus Road (walk-in, East Paddock- what glorious days they were). It was a time of riches for us Rs fans, Wilson, Bardsley, MacDonald, Impey, Holloway, Barker, Peacock.

Amongst the lowlights many highlights, Zamora at Wembley will live long in the memory.

Saw Austin score his 2nd for Totton last night (probably for the 1st time in my life the chant "we are top of the league" has been sung at a game I'm attending.

Hoping to visit for the first time the fabled Crown and Sceptre for the Pompey game on the 19th, hopefully I can say hello to a few....

Cheese-wise, anything from Snowdonia cheesemakers will do me, black bomber and their chilli variety are fabulous

Double take
at 08:15 8 Sep 2024

In a top of the table clash yesterday, Charlie scored his first goal for AFC Totton yesterday however a certain L Ferdinand (I assume not the legend that we know and love) scored a brace in the first half for Basingstoke Town . Certain emotions ran through me when i saw Austin AND Ferdinand on the score sheet.....

Very excited....Austin just signed for my local non-league side AFC Totton.. just missed out on a double promotion last season and found themselves in 4 cup finals (only won one but by then they'd just lost the promotion final game) https://www.afctotton.com/news/charlie-austin-signs-stags

It was a beautiful moment when virtually the whole stadium joined in with the chant, can't say I've ever experienced that before

There's a fun walk under the Thames which takes you directly to the Cutty Sark. Hunterian Museum in Lincoln Inn Fields is free if you don't mind looking at body parts and it's an interesting location around Temple for a 10 min walk

W12 hospitality
at 08:17 27 Jun 2019

I've got a group of 6 for hospitality for the West Brom game on Sep 28th. I've done W12 a few times now but fancy trying the VIP box - same price but a free bar.

Neil from QPR hospitality says that he is happy for 2 groups to make up the numbers, anyone fancy getting together a group of 6 so that we have enough for a box?

Lost emails (help required)
at 19:24 9 Jul 2018

Had this happen with a tiscali (talk talk) Email just recently

Constants chasing and failed return calls eventually led to them 'fixing' the issue and all my emails reappeared.

Fingers crossed

New streaming app for Apple devices
at 14:26 1 Apr 2016

no idea if this is available on android but Universal Sport HD, which I have used a few times these last few days has given me the best (not tried to buffer once) free access to all of the Sky Sports channels I've ever had.
Even been watching some of the tennis which no stream I've ever used before works well with but this app has been magnificent

For those not going The Rs v Middlesbrough should be problem free streaming with this.

(note there are a couple of full screen adverts that pop up and after a few seconds an 'X' will appear but once these have been got rid of Ive not had any more pop ups)

Ferkin hell (do you see what I did there?). Now just hang on until the 88th minute for an almighty balls up which results in another sloppy goal

nice one Stu - sitting with the home fans would have messed with his head. A couple of times I've had to sit in the home end at Bournemouth away and it is horrible to sit next to the oppo's fans, win or lose

Few thoughts on last nights game..
at 11:14 21 Oct 2015

The combination of Hill on and Henry off was fundamental to us keeping a clean sheet, imo. There was a lengthy discussion after a Wed corner between Hill and Sandro when Hill was clearly telling Sandro exactly what to do for the next one followed by a thumbs up from Sandro - I just don't see that sort of 'organising' being done by anyone else in the back four. Maybe it needs the experience of a Hill to be able to do this and be accepted by the other players.

Hill had a tough night against a huge CF, OK he got away with a couple of chancy moments but overall he played an intelligent game, I thought the Hill/Hall combination worked most of the night.

JET always looks as though he is blowing out of his a*se so I cant see how us fans can tell if he needs to come off or not, Fer is quality at times and his fresh legs and shooting ability from outside of the box may have turned the game for us.

I came away delighted with a clean sheet (how times have changed), the players might start to believe in themselves a little more at the back and with the attacking players we have at our disposal we should be able to make opportunities for ourselves at this level.

On the train home

The result could have been very different if the ref had given them a pen or we had got a couple of our longer range shots on target. If Chery's shot on the volley had gone in it would have been a contender for goal of the season! Wed really should have made us pay when Hall fell over in the first half.

I thought we played ok, up front I can see why Wed score goals, their CF was a real handful and I thought that Hall/Hill with Sandro's protection did better than anything I've seen this season. The penny drops maybe with Henry far, far away.

We created some nice chances but Loftus Road was just so quiet I am sure this nervousness doesn't help the players.

The game was dull, I'm not sure how good Wed are/were, but I was pretty happy with the shape and, really important to me, the effort that everyone put in.

JET looked dog tired at times during the first half so it was no surprise he as taken off, thought that Fer as a good choice up front so that we didn't have to rely on his defensive inabilities and we know he can shoot. Don't quite understand the chants of "don't know what you're doing" doesn't help the manager, the players or the mood inside Loftus.

Caulker hauled before a judge for at least one indiscretion last season...
at 13:17 13 Oct 2015

there may be plenty who have done similar however very few of us

a) need to keep fit for a living
b) have had plenty of advice throughout our careers about how to stay out of trouble
c) understand that this sort of behaviour will be scrutinised and commented on by 1000s of football fans

Tw*t and Southampton deserve him!

Speed cameras
at 15:54 2 Oct 2015

Often wondered, along some stretches of road there are several speed cameras - if I went through 4 cameras all above the limit would that be 4 lots of points and a ban?

Anyone know anyone that's done this?

All I know is that there will be pain, crap defending, a costly mistake, more pain, a few badly taken half chances for Seb/Mackie/Chery et al, a refereeing decision that costs us, more pain, a huge bout of tourettes followed by a meltdown on LFW

or a glorious display of footballing togetherness and we tonk them 3-0!
