Chris Jasper also died on Sunday. He officially joined the Isley Brothers in 1973 in time to record the 3+3 album which included That Lady and Summer Breeze. He sung and played keyboards for the band.
A few years later he sung the lead on Caravan Of Love by which time the band was now called Isley Jasper Isley.
I was milling around with you that day, a very strange atmosphere around HQ.
We went in to the ground afterwards, took our seats, and the crowd started singing ''There's Only One Ally Faurlin.'' I turned around to my mate and said thank goodness there is only one of him!
Various reasons for our dip in away form I think, a large one being tactics.
Christian Nourry has mentioned that he wants us to play in a certain way. Marti right at the beginning of his post match Portsmouth interview mentions ''Imposing our style'' on the game.
Against Portsmouth we made one change in the starting line up that beat Derby, Smythe for Wang, like for like. This suggests to me that we were going to approach both games in a very similar manner which is wrong. Derby and Portsmouth are two different teams and we were home and away. Marti recently moved Chair in to a high centre role leaving us with just two in central midfield.
All well and good having a style of play that you can try and impose on the oppostion game after game but, in my opinion, we don't have the talent in the squad to be able to do that.
I remember feeling very low after the defeat at Norwich and Liverpool's win at Wolves.
For reasons unknown I did shed a few tears near the end of the 98/99 season when we looked like being relegated to the third tier of English football, I was on the train listening to a radio commentary and us losing once again.
Two seasons later when we did get relegated I just thought you silly barstewards.
Rest In Peace Roberta Flack, back together again with Donny Hathaway.
I was never a great fan of long 12" mixes but there were exceptions such as this ten minutes of magic. Stevie Wonder on drums and backing vocals along with Luther Vandross.
Can't be bothered posting much at the moment but I thought that the Chair worldy set us on the way against Derby but without it I think it would have been a much closer game.
Marti is still learning at this level and I factor that in to my looking forward to next season. If there was ever a game Jack Colback should be starting it was today's and I really hope that Marti now see's that. The two man midfield with Chair playing more central really doesn't do us any favours especially against the more physical teams. It really makes you wonder about our preparation for this game.
For me there is no need to wonder about the inconsistency, as you say we have too many players who are not good enough and inconsistent.
Ref was awful, the shove on Lloyd could have been a red.
No great surprise to lose at Fratton Park but certainly not in this manner. On the face of it we have a pretty decent defence but to concede two goals in two minutes at the beginning of the second half is unacceptable.
We remain gloriously inconsistent but we have Marti and plenty of young emerging talent. Looking forward to next season already.
