It's not that we haven't got the money, it's more that we buy lots of mediocre players for about £10m rather than 3 or 4 proven PL players who can be relied on to do a job. Rather than Archer, Diaz and Cornet we should have put that money into one proven front player at this level. |

Well the question was, will RM change things today?, and to his credit he did. The team looked more balanced, quicker and with more forward movement...and less stupid passing at the back ( but still too much for my liking). Ramsgate mixed it up and kicked some nice longer passes, and until the penalty we were the better side with some good chances. Not being able to convert those chances is our achillies heal, and he needs to find someone who can put it in the net. Maybe Stewart will come good, but I'd put Diaz in the middle and give him some service. We lost it after that penalty miss, but at last RM seems to be responding. |

....and Lallana. |

With Frazer and Dibling playing we'll have more chance of scoring. |

Will he change it? And by how much? If he doesn’t he's 2 games Ipswich and Bournemouth to turn it around. After that he's toast. |

RM will never use him, not once. It would be like admitting that his possession game doesn't work, and he's had to revert to long balls into the box, rather than trying to walk it in. He's far too stubborn and arrogant to change his precious possession style. Tall Paul will never play for us under this manager. |

Yes he deserves a chance. Give him the next 3 games, if it's the same situation with mistakes made at the back by playing tight triangles in our own penalty area, then a new coach is required. |

With all those 1st team players away on international duty, RM is going to struggle on the training ground to perfect his tippy tappy method at the back. On the plus side, not having any players will give him plenty of time to stew on those ghastly mistakes...if he keeps watching the re-runs the penny might finally drop!!! We live in hope. |
| Forum Reply | !!!!!!!!!! Russell Martin out !!!!!!!!!!! at 23:25 1 Sep 2024
Quite, keep the possession game but not at the back!!!!! AND get the ball upfield quicker. Brentford played out from the back but only with safe passes and then moved quickly up the pitch. Make that change and we don't conceded stupid goals. |
| Forum Thread | Get Dibling signed up at 13:58 1 Sep 2024
He signed a new 2 year contract at the beginning of the year, but we need to get him on a 5 year deal soon because on this showing he's going to attract a lot of interest from bigger clubs. Personally I think Southampton is the ideal place for him to develop over the next few years, and I hope he realises that, but we all know what happens when the vultures circle. |
| Forum Reply | Brentford v Saints at 16:00 31 Aug 2024
Commentators on sky saying the way we try to play out from the back is suicide and mentioned the last 2 defeats. Mentioned it didn't work for Burnley last season...so why are we going down the same path? Brentford play out from the back but keep it simple and don't take any risks. |
| Forum Reply | The stubborn one at 19:03 29 Aug 2024
I don't think Dibling should start just yet, I can see some cynical PL players taking him out, and he could end up injured, especially as he doesn't wear shin pads. I'd bring him on at about 60 mins when the opposition have tired, to make his surging runs. He needs careful handling to build up his stamina. |
| Forum Reply | Would you take Ward-Prowse back? at 14:47 29 Aug 2024
I love JWP and he's been a great player for the club, but his first instinct is to play it sideways or back, he slows down the game too much, allowing the opposition to re- set, whereas now we've got a few players that can move forward with pace ie Dibling and Fernandes. |
| Forum Reply | Too stubborn to be flexible? at 19:18 27 Aug 2024
Give him 3 more games in the PL, if we lose all those then let's have a mass protest at SMS. Big banners saying "CHANGE THE SYSTEM". If nothing changes then change the banners to "SPORTS REPUBLIC OUT". |
